The Royal Academy have removed Jess' work from their shop due to a handful of complaints that she's 'transphobic'. If you want to support Jess her website is here.

So sick of these utterly craven organisations. I hope she has a legal case against them for discrimination.

Jess's patches are out of stock and she must be totally overwhelmed with organising postage of orders at the moment.

If you enjoy embroidery, you can order a digital download of this sewing pattern, and she won't have to do any posting!

What e mail address are people using to e mail the RA?

There's a contact us page, I used the main one not the one for the shop.

@WalkersAreNotTheOnlyCrisps

“We appreciate you holding us to account on this issue”

Sycophantic bastards 🤮

Poor Jess 😤

This ^^

I too wonder if they'd taken the same knee jerk reaction if Jess had been a man.

What has an artist's 'views got to do with their art unless they're advocating killing babies to feed stray dogs? Pathetic.

I hope she lawyers up

@UpTheJunktion

Hmmm. Given that Jess received a message to say that complaints were being investigated a while before the announcement , perhaps the management were involved in an actual decision, rather than the bookshop / Tweet team making up a quick response.
I can't quite decide if that makes it better or worse...
TedImgoingmad · 21/06/2021 17:52

Sorry if this is double posting, but JDW was on with Glinner earlier.

Jess de Wahls: Artist wants apology from Royal Academy over transphobia row www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-57552016

I'm sure the RA would love for this to just disappear, so I'm glad that this outrage continues to be covered.

An excellent, balanced article from THE BBC?
YellowFish12 · 21/06/2021 17:11

Can’t believe RA still haven’t issued a grovelling apology. What is taking so long??

Cailleach1 · 21/06/2021 17:11

So they should apologise for their targeting of Jess de Wahls, at the behest of harassing, misogynistic bigots. Pathetic and discriminatory, punching down at women. They thought it would be easier.

Won't spend a bob there anyway. Changed from the sugar soaked Innocent drinks a while back and adjusted to lovely chilled (sometimes sparkling) water, with a hunt of orange, lemon, cucumber or mint. Better for it. We could buy from Jess de Wahls directly and not put any cash in the Royal Academy, as they evidently think it is ok to dismiss women and our concerns.

I wish journalists would spell out in big letters the hypocrisy about some of the other artists' views/behaviour.

Found the thread !

toffeebutterpopcorn · 21/06/2021 16:01

Is that you Ed?

@Ekofisk

I think the intern is posting on here instead.

Maybe they've told whoever it is to go home and wash the hair dye out to see if it helps.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 21/06/2021 15:21

Yes. Yes it did...

I see the RA twitter account has gone a bit quiet... have they hidden the interns keyboard?

JoodyBlue · 21/06/2021 15:15

Did this thread JUST get moved into "Sex and Gender" debate? I am sure I was reading it from "Feminist chat" a moment ago.

NecessaryScene · 21/06/2021 15:06

Apparently Jess is going to be appearing on The Mess We're In in a little under an hour:

JoodyBlue · 21/06/2021 15:05

@KellyWhite2 did you ever watch the film "Coraline"? Your piece has the same powerful impact as a scene in that film. It is very very good.

Bloodybridget · 21/06/2021 15:05

@corkernewyorker thanks for the link to the RA FB page. Very heartening to read the comments! And good luck to Nicola Williams with the EHRC.

JoodyBlue · 21/06/2021 15:03

@RaindropsOnRosie

Wow. How disgusting that her work was removed.

It shouldn't have ever been there- what a vile person.

You need to give a proper example. Otherwise you are just slurring.
