Ok so more men discussing this...

theleavesaregreen · 08/06/2021 17:36

I was certainly unlucky, as I went to 2 different hostels 2 weekends running, and this person was in my women's dormitory on both occasions! They were presumably spending their whole holiday in women's dormitories. They did pass in those days - when the possibility of someone being trans was the last thing on your mind. And because you had no idea that you were sharing the dormitory with a male person, you naturally behaved as you would in an all female dormitory. These days, transwomen are permitted to stay in YHA dormitories, which isn't great for the women and girls who use them, in the belief that the dormitories are still single sex.

GoodbyePorpoiseSpit · 08/06/2021 17:36

Lovely to hear Ben unraveling again

Hotcuppatea · 08/06/2021 17:35

Evan Davies hasn't done well on this issue before in my view. Will be interesting to hear him now.

WarriorN · 08/06/2021 17:35

Oooh interesting

ItsDinah · 08/06/2021 17:35

Radio 4 PM 17.34 - repeating and discussing

Diaryofamadwoman · 08/06/2021 17:34

They're talking about it now on PM

Hotcuppatea · 08/06/2021 17:34

It's being rehashed on Today now.

nauticant · 08/06/2021 17:34

This is now being discussed on the PM Programme on Radio 4.

20 years ago, I spent the night in a women's only dormitory in a youth hostel. The other "woman" in the dormitory turned out to be male-bodied, and physically attacked me (punched me astonishingly hard for a "woman") when I turned the light on to get changed for bed, and then threw all my belongings into the corridor. I had to sleep elsewhere. I reported them to the police. They were banned from the YHA, but the next weekend turned up in the women's dormitory at a different hostel. The police told me that they had also been reported for flashing at a girl in a women's toilet, and were travelling with lots of sex toys on their bike (cycling holiday). In those days, the YHA's trans policy was that trans people should stay in a private room. Which this person had ignored.

TalkingtoLangClegintheDark · 08/06/2021 17:31

Oh I missed that, what did Kathy say? (Sorry, haven’t RTFT)

Erikrie · 08/06/2021 17:29

The beauty of screen shots. Too late Kathy.

HeavenHotel · 08/06/2021 17:26

Kathy Burke has now deleted her tweet about the interview.

TalkingtoLangClegintheDark · 08/06/2021 17:25

@Sophoclesthefox

Personally, I’m fully supportive of Benjamin’s role as a spokesperson on this topic, he’s exactly the man for the job, and I can’t wait to hear more from him Grin

Indeed!

Erikrie · 08/06/2021 17:23

if anyone mis genders or mis calls you the wrath of the Furies descends in a red mist of pain and hurt feelingz

Sounds dreadful. Still Benjamin's on the case.

Thanks for that

Wow

What an extraordinary tour de force from Ben Cohen there! He came across as a gibbering, frothing nincompoop, didn’t he.

And Justin Webb was excellent. You could almost think the capture of the BBC was loosening, listening to that.

Letsgetreadytocrumble · 08/06/2021 17:23

Just listened to it. Wow BC was even worse than I could have imagined, what the hell was that??? I get the feeling he is not a regular listener of the Today Programme - FYI Ben, ranting, straw man arguments, deflecting from the point, refusing to answer questions is how you are clearly used to engaging, but away from Twitter and in the real world, on a grown up show like the Today Programme, people conduct themselves slightly differently.

It's true that #nodebate is definitely over though!

highame · 08/06/2021 17:20

Stonewall couldn't send anyone to debate. From what I remember, Denton's advice was no debate and stealth, so Benjamin was demonstrating to us all, why no debate is essential (as so many of you have pointed out) and his idea of stealth was a little skewwhiff too Grin

merrymouse · 08/06/2021 17:18

snide comments from Freddy about JW challenging BC about his use of the word cis. I mean, let’s face it Freddy, if anyone mis genders or mis calls you the wrath of the Furies descends in a red mist of pain and hurt feelingz.

The idea that it’s possible to accept the reality of sex while rejecting imposed gender is heresy.

Erikrie · 08/06/2021 17:14

He's still in full rant mode on Twitter

Ha ha. Poor dear. He should go and lie down in a dark room with a cool flannel on his forehead. I trust it's all been rather too much for him. A terribly exhausting morning.

HeavenHotel · 08/06/2021 17:14

And I second this!! Please let him do more interviews!!

HeavenHotel · 08/06/2021 17:13

Omg just listened! Best interview ever!

Justin sighing all the way through, was hilarious!

The pink news guy, was embarrassing!

Oh. Definitely. Do more Benjamin. Loving your work.

GrinGrinGrin

He's still in full rant mode on Twitter.

Goodness know how he or any of his allies can have listened to that and thought "good job mate, you really did us proud today".

I think even Nancy Kelly will have listened to that with her head in her hands wishing she'd accepted the invitation instead.

nauticant · 08/06/2021 17:12

We're back to this:

TRAs: "The most serious crime imaginable is not to validate someone's asserted identity."

The Internet: "I'm SuperStraight/SuperGay/SuperLesbian/SuperBi."

TRAs: "Your asserted identity is transphobic and is not valid."
