PM Is a news programme on Radio 4 starts at 5pm.
You can look it up on BBC sounds.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 08/06/2021 21:15

@WarOnWoman

Just listened to both Today and PM.

BC must have peaked a lot of people. Go him.

I have a lot of time for Jonathon Haidt's views. He explained the lack of debate very well.

What is PM, please?

A few posters have mentioned it but I haven't a clue what it is - is there a link?

Taliskerskye · 08/06/2021 21:13

I am going to use my initial only and he/him
See if it makes any difference to my life.

BigHuff · 08/06/2021 21:08

Both segments were great. The first for its comedic value, the second because the guest had some genuinely novel (to me) ideas and shared them eloquently.

DeRigueurMortis · 08/06/2021 21:03

*Whenever I meet someone in a work context I like to underline the fact that I am in a group that has an advantage”

You can see why this pronoun business appeals to some men*

Much like the interview when he's a pains to point out that he's gay, Jewish and has a disability.

I have a pretty sex ambiguous forename and it's pretty obvious in the difference in how I'm treated by people who've not met met me (and thus know I'm female) from those who don't.

This concept that it's a "good" thing to declare pronouns at work I find very frustrating.

It's not. It should be utterly irrelevant.

My sex, race, religious beliefs and disability status should not be something I have to proclaim.

@Mollyollydolly

It's worth looking through his tweets and replies today. The gift that keeps on giving. So sad I'm on a 7 day ban .. Ben seems to think all BBC journalists should say their pronouns at the beginning of a programme.

@nauticant

Evan Davis doesn't seem that pleased with what Jonathan Haidt is saying.
Evan Davis, I have observed, is not the sharpest tool in the shed. A few weeks ago he asked one of his guests whether they could, in a sentence, sum up "why this is happening"? It was a segment about Israel-Palestine! There was a disbelieving silence from the guest.

He also had a non-binary guest on not too long ago, but failed to ask a single question that curious listeners may have wanted an answer to - such as 'what do you mean by non-binary/what makes someone non-binary?' His only contribution was to occasionally chuckle like an indulgent uncle.

PearPickingPorky · 08/06/2021 20:35

Ben Cohen: "I start all meetings [...] with a bit where we share our pronouns".

Yep, that's why nobody can take you seriously, Ben. Give your head a wobble.

TheWatersofMarch · 08/06/2021 20:34

@Puddycatfan I've just tried to email Justin @ today and it's bounced back - mailbox full, hopefully full of supportive comments

DeRigueurMortis · 08/06/2021 20:27

It's ok Ben - we are happy to have you on our team Grin

WarriorN · 08/06/2021 20:24

Oh no it's last week's

WarriorN · 08/06/2021 20:22

Oooh I have the minutes somewhere

Masdintle · 08/06/2021 20:22

Ooo Mollyollydolly were you on a Baroness Nicholson webinar earlier today?

Who needs Netflix this evening? Far too entertaining...

dolorsit · 08/06/2021 20:09

argh my kingdom for an edit button.

dolorsit · 08/06/2021 20:08

Gosh that's a bit transphobic of Ben. Don't Ben know that one shouldn't assume someone's gender identity on the basis of preferred pronouns.

(At least according to my daughter's PSHE lesson)

Mollyollydolly · 08/06/2021 20:03

Oh God that Lachlan tweet, today's been fun.

That has made my day!!!!

Mollyollydolly · 08/06/2021 20:00

Agree about JOB .. cant listen to him and I was an ardent remainer. He probably caused Brexit, the patronising, wee poshboy.

ShagMeRiggins · 08/06/2021 20:00

the buttergasp

Sorry, but

@Mrsorganmorgan

Had to stop listening to James O'brien, because my blood pressure was off the graph, and I am a Remainer. He is so rude and "know it all" and sometimes he becomes really aggressive. I think people who call in to him are very carefully chosen by whoever is in charge.
Ditto. And he can't win an argument - if he starts losing, he just cuts the speaker off.

I'm a Remainer too, but he made me cringe at how patronising he is to Leavers - that soft, faux-concerned voice he uses when he's explaining to them how stupid they are. He's probably recruited more people to Brexit than Farage.

teezletangler · 08/06/2021 19:41

The Coddling is a great book. It's also "acceptable" enough that you won't be automatically branded a fascist/right wing nutter/transphobe etc etc for reading and recommending it. DH has just lent it to one of his teaching colleagues who is on their "justice, diversity and inclusion" committee. Stirring things up Grin

Joe Rogan's interview with Haidt is also worth seeking out. It was a couple of years ago.
