His release is subject to a number of licence conditions.

These include living at a designated address, taking part in probation supervision, wearing an electronic tag, taking part in lie detector tests and having to disclose what vehicles he uses and who he speaks to, with particular limits on contact with children.

He will also be subject to a curfew, have restrictions on using technology and limits on where he can go.

So they clearly don't think he's 'rehabilitated'?

Does anyone know if these restrictions expire?

Eg they were going to release warboys after 9 years. Over 100 women attacked.

Still had a sense of sexual entitlement and showed no remorse. On the reports they read and decided to release. And again it was only changed after outcry because he was well known.

We only hear about the famous ones. Which is a tiny proportion of them.

That's my worry.

NiceGerbil · 02/09/2021 03:22

There was another case like this recently.

My view.

Men who have murdered women/ girls. Plenty about. Often don't serve anywhere near this much time. And get released without notice.

He's done 33 years. We only know because it's a well known case.

Changes need to be across the board. Not focused on the occasional man whose crimes we heard about.

33 years is a long time. The ones who get fuck all are important.

Across the board.
One reason for prison is public protection.
Men who carry out violent/ sex offences against women and girls are a particular class of criminal.
They're not doing it for money etc.
They ALL need to be inside until a panel of PROPER experts agrees there is pretty much no chance of reoffending.
If that means never get out that's fine by me.

The approach to 'low level' offences against women and girls need to be treated as seriously as they are- the start of something that escalates.
Get them off the streets before they rape/kill.

That's what I think.

@MichelleScarn

I know and the caveat that oh if he does something wrong it's back to jail. Why even give the opportunity?!!
Because he's a man. His victims were only girls (not even women). We need to respect his right to get out and decide if he needs to rape and murder, and rape and murder, and cover it up by getting someone to take the DNA test for him, etc., again.

@MichelleScarn

No idea Brandine, I didn't want to lose all the previous posts so bumped this one with the update, can't believe there's not much other interest or rage.
I'm raging for thousands for a thousand miles away. This is the case that created DNA as a tool that is solving crimes weekly at this point. I can't believe they are letting him out.

... to the conversation for us witches? Sorry, I was cut off mid post.

Why did this thread get relegated

BrandineDelRoy · 01/09/2021 20:20

@MichelleScarn

Ah right *@BrandineDelRoy* I think we're saying the same thing!!
I think so. I'm just much more vengeful. I admit it.

BrandineDelRoy · 01/09/2021 19:47

@MichelleScarn

They don't have to know who he is to report a man following them, approaching them, or whatever. Have you inferred I've meant people spuriously reporting him without any actual basis?
Oh no! I meant people are just less likely to report questionable things related to the Everyman than they are someone identified as a sex offender.
Jaysmith71 · 01/09/2021 18:58

If you've ever watched Police Interceptors/Traffic Cops or whatever, you'd know that when they type in your details and you're on licence or you've been recalled, computer says ping!

BrandineDelRoy · 01/09/2021 18:38
@Jaysmith71 how does that work? Could a member of the public report him for something and it would be enough, or does it have to be his probation officer?
How would anyone know to report him if they don't know who he is?

BrandineDelRoy · 01/09/2021 18:30

I admit I am biased. Where I live, this man would have been executed years ago or else would be serving a true life sentence.

I believe that anyone who committed a crime like his who was truly reformed and repentant would understand the damage he had caused, accept that his release would cause additional pain and distress to many, and never apply for release.

Jaysmith71 · 01/09/2021 18:20

Any breach of his licence and he's straight back inside. No trial or hearing of any kind.

"Lock 'em all up and throw away the key" is an option, but not an easy one, particularly under the ECHR.

MichelleScarn · 01/09/2021 18:15

Is it not 'any breach of his license' that he's caught and then proven to have done though? I don't know how it works.

BrandineDelRoy · 01/09/2021 18:12

@Jaysmith71

I would think it would be harder to "kill again" in prison

Spectaculalry easy. The Killing is always the easy part. It's the getting away with it that's hard. In Pitchfork's case, he got a mate to give a DNA sample under his name.

I know. I just don't think men like him should be let out because otherwise they might pose a risk to prison guards.

@MrsOvertonsWindow

Avoiding being on the sex offender's register along with a name change seems a highly dangerous act.
Not on the registry? That is insane.
BrandineDelRoy · 01/09/2021 18:06

@Jaysmith71

He's out on licence and is going to be monitored. His movements will be restricted. I can't see what difference an entry on the sex offenders register would make. Any breach of his licence, he goes straight back to prison.

There are three considerations when a licence is issued: Public Safety. Public Confidence and Offender Rehabilitation. The issue here seems to be the second of these.

If licence release were not seen by serious offenders to be possible, Cat One prisons would be very different places, much more expensive to run and with a constant danger to prison officers. Why not kill again when you're already a lifer?

I would think it would be harder to "kill again" in prison when your potential victims are men younger than you than it would be on the outside where you can target teenage girls.

Absolute disgrace. Hope life is difficult for him...as in living in fear difficult. Those poor girls and their families.

MichelleScarn · 01/09/2021 11:49

Updating to say have just seen Sky News flash he's been released despite Justice Secretary trying to intervene saying it was irrational.
