because all females need to be aware of this

And there's no need to have an attack of the vapours because it's a Daily Mail link. For all their multitude of shortcomings, the Mail at least have the guts to publish articles that stand up for women and girls.

People I know (men mostly) who wouldn't even have known anything about this stuff 12 months ago are all talking about it.

YY. I was on holiday last week and it was brought up out of the blue by my DP's mum (not knowing what I think about it), who wasn't particularly aware of what was going on but had definitely picked up on some of the more extreme activism.

OldTurtleNewShell · 07/06/2021 14:30

One of the most frustrating things about this 'debate' and the reason it is so hard to get anywhere, is the number of people who will swear blind 'that never happens' even in the face of incontrovertible evidence that it is happening.
And why? For no other reason than they refuse to acknowledge anything that doesn't fit their stance. If they don't want it to be true, then it can't be.
It's quite extraordinary and really depressing.
Even worse, we can't make any progress on finding a way forward - for trans people or for women - while half of the debate consists of activists standing with their fingers in their metaphorical ears and singing 'lalalala - can't hear you'.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 07/06/2021 14:26

People saying 'well it hasn't happened in my experience' is anecdata.

And just to repeat this, all you have is your own anecdata. People have made relevant points and provided examples of female erasure. You have a few cherrypicked screenshots of one use of the word "mother", some silly straw men, and you completely ignored the question about how the Scottish government defines "female" and that some organisations think it includes MTF trans people. You don't want to investigate this issue properly yourself because you don't care enough about it, you want other people to run around getting and posting links so you can dismiss them as not quite good enough for you, for whatever reason you have.

No thanks. Go well.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 07/06/2021 14:17

More anecdata then, but no translation into real life. And I’m not sure how many times I can ask if the bill excludes the word ‘mother’ or not.

I'm not sure how many times it needs to be pointed out to you that if it weren't for some sense being spoken in the House of Lords and awareness raising by feminists, like those on FWR, it would have done so.

I can see from going back over the early part of the thread just how many people have picked up on your disingenuousness, and quite reasonably can't be arsed engaging.

Pumperthepumper · 07/06/2021 14:14

@Ereshkigalangcleg

Just a wee joke

No, just rather silly hyperbole.

If you like. But no more silly than Sarah Vine’s article.

Pumperthepumper · 07/06/2021 14:04

@Ereshkigalangcleg

Never mind there’s no actual real-life evidence of every midwife being shot at dawn for saying the word ‘mother’.

This is what is known as a "straw man".

Just a wee joke, although to be fair, I made it back when I thought you had more evidence.
Pumperthepumper · 07/06/2021 14:03

@Datun

But that’s not happening. And you can’t provide any evidence that it’s happening, aside from a few tweets. And anywhere it’s not happening you say ‘well, that’s because we already fixed that one’.

Except where it happened at the highest lawmaking office in the land.

You've had a woman on this very thread saying her work policy reflects it.

The government has had to come out and insist gender neutral toilets are rolled back.

And women are being decoupled from their sex to the extent that men can be lesbians.

A doctor on here said that if a transman came to them with abdominal pain, it was a criminal offence for her to write in the referral letter that the person might be pregnant. Because of privacy laws denying biology.

More anecdata then, but no translation into real life. And I’m not sure how many times I can ask if the bill excludes the word ‘mother’ or not.
Ereshkigalangcleg · 07/06/2021 13:54

The Act isn't anecdata. The video isn't anecdata. Direct quotes from maternity policies as provided by PPs are not anecdata (though admittedly the PP hasn't provided a copy of the policy). Documented Stonewall policy isn't anecdata.

People saying 'well it hasn't happened in my experience' is anecdata.

Quite.

DeclineandFall · 07/06/2021 13:51

I think in the end the losers in all of this insanity will be the trans community. By allowing militants like Stonewall to push the agenda further and further they were always going to hit a pushback. Now they've ended up on the radar of Sarah Vine, The Daily Mail and all the other pc gone mad brigade and it's not going to end well for them. But its their own fault.
People I know (men mostly) who wouldn't even have known anything about this stuff 12 months ago are all talking about it. It doesn't matter how many or few leaflets are replacing mother with something else. Itss like the migrants crossing the channel. There's not that many but according to the right wingers its thousands upon thousands and then it becomes a thing in the public consciousness.

I find this quite a useful explanation

Indeed. Groups of women have steadfastly written to every local council in the land, correcting them when they use gender instead of sex as a protected characteristic.

Sometimes they've had to write more than once, because the following year it slips back.

Yes, it's almost as if you could consider this misrepresentation of the Equality Act widespread? Wonder where that came from?

Datun · 07/06/2021 13:37

@Feelinghothothottoday

The changing of forms from sex to gender. The issues with the girl guides. Etc

At my work - public sector they dropped using the word sex in their public facing reports. Instead they use sexuality and gender. I correct them everytime and everytime they Amend it and use the correct protected characteristics. Even with our in house training on child protection they used the word gender then said 93% of sexual abuse is committed by men. Again I corrected them and said they need to use the word sex. If I didn’t do this then we would have 100s of documents and training courses passing on incorrect info. It is all over the place.

@Ereshkigalangcleg

There aren’t, I’ve already looked.

Ok then.

Looked and provided evidence, all in this thread.

ArabellaScott · 07/06/2021 13:28

I can't read this as I'm not signed up to the BMJ, but here's an article asking for 'sex' to be removed from all data sets, as far as I can tell:

www.bmj.com/content/373/bmj.n1261

Pumperthepumper · 07/06/2021 13:28

@Ereshkigalangcleg

It’s hard to quantify but id say if there were over 50 of official documents for pregnant women and mothers who point-blank refused to say women and mothers then I’d consider it widespread.

I'd guess there are. But I don't have time to look for them all, and you're the person who doubts it, not me. I'm simply not that interested in convincing you of anything. Anyone who is genuinely interested can look back in the FWR archives over the last four or five years, and investigate the matter for themselves.

There aren’t, I’ve already looked. NHS, Scottish mat policy, LLL, Breastfeeding Network - all say mother.

Thelnebriati · 07/06/2021 13:25

Its so much more than a few tweets. You really haven't been paying attention.

The next attack will be on The Equality Act.

Pumperthepumper · 07/06/2021 13:23

@Datun

I don’t think pretending there’s a conspiracy to erase the word ‘mother’ is helping anything.

Well then, you're not paying attention.

How can a man be women, if woman is based on biology. It has to be based on an identity. And one that isn't based on biology. Hence the targeting of, motherhood, body parts like cervices and menstruation, etc.

Just think about it. That's the agenda. You know it. You've already said you know they have an agenda.

That's what it is.

But that’s not happening. And you can’t provide any evidence that it’s happening, aside from a few tweets. And anywhere it’s not happening you say ‘well, that’s because we already fixed that one’.

I’ve read them too! And ultimately, it didn’t matter, because the bill says ‘mothers’.

Yes it did.

And you know what?

You're welcome.

Ok.
