Nickelodeon Junior Blues Clues just launched a video for children aged 2 to 5 years old to sing along to.

Made by Lindz Amer (of (School video words just can't convey fame) and Nickelodeon Junior

It's called Blues Clues Pride Parade and lists different types of families. No. 6 is 'Ace, Bi and Pan'. No. 9 is 'Allies to the Queer Community'

"It's the Blue's Clue's And You Pride Parade and we need you to sing-along as the 'Families Go Marching' proudly"

@ZenNudist

I know this is a serious thread and I'm not a fan of teaching dc about the trans "umbrella" but to derail slightly: does anyone remember Rainbow with Rod Jane and Freddie? (To distinguish it from pride rainbow!). They used to say some inappropriate things but to dc it sailed over our heads. And things like captain pugwash with Seaman Staines. There's always some coke addled wazzock who think its ok to expose dc to this shit. Fortunately it didn't do the children of the 80s any harm.
It's getting in at such an early age almost subconsciously that is what I find repulsive about it.
nauticant · 03/06/2021 08:50

I would treat the claim with some skepticism:

www.snopes.com/fact-check/maps-pride-flag/

However, Snopes which was great for years, in recent times became woke and now isn't above including propaganda in its authoritative findings of TRUE or FALSE if it supports the social justice point of view.

hazandduck · 03/06/2021 08:31

Is that paedo flag actually real?? I’ve been unable to find anything about it online other than a myth debunker saying it was intended as a smear campaign to lump gay people in with child sex abusers. Which I can actually believe some homophobic nut job doing.

StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind · 03/06/2021 08:26

I was born in the 80s, loved Rainbow, Rod Jane and Freddie.

Thing is even with stuff that may have gone over our heads (I honestly have no clue whether there was or wasn't- I was 3! 😁), that was the point wasn't it, some saddo thinking it was funny to include rude jokes that children wouldn't even be aware of.

This is indoctrination and deliberately introducing them to concepts they can't possibly understand and are completely age inappropriate. The way safeguarding has been torn up for this generation of children disgusts me- I'm so glad for the feminism board on Mumsnet that had opened my eyes to so much of what is going on. The 'secrets' thing in Jigsaw PSHE that I read about on here for example. I'm going to be emailing our school for lesson plans. I mentioned this to my local MP when he knocked on the door the other day and he asked me to copy him in. I hope with everything happening with Stonewall that light is finally being shone on all of this.

"Pride" was a reasonable tactical move, in the circumstances of decades ago, but it's not the correct long-term answer.

Yes - ‘Pride’ was very relevant for a particular group of people at a particular moment, but it can’t be applied generally as a cure-all for inequality. However, I think many people, particularly men, focus on respect because their sense of self is so dependent on being validated by others.

Ironically, I think this is exactly what politicians like Trump and Farage tap into. They also like a flag.

‘Pride’ is also an easy sell - an Instagram meme once a year is much cheaper than installing more accessible toilets.

@NewlyGranny

Merrymouse, I get what you're saying, but I'm not convinced that pride is the opposite of shame, you know? I don't think feelings always fall so easily into pairs like that. The opposite of shame feels more like liberation to me, or joyful confidence. I rejoice in who I am but it's not a source of pride because I didn't choose to be me. I feel pride in achievements I worked hard for rather than just random attributes.
I think pride is the opposite of shame.

They used "pride" to push back against "shame", but it's not the correct stopping point.

Yes, there should be no shame in being gay - it's not something you did.

But conversely, there should be no pride in being gay - it's not something you did.

Being gay should be a value-neutral characteristic - the "liberation" you speak of.

"Pride" was a reasonable tactical move, in the circumstances of decades ago, but it's not the correct long-term answer.

"Seaman Staines" is an urban myth:

www.snopes.com/fact-check/captain-pugwash-double-meanings/

and if I recall correctly, the rude Rainbow episode was not one broadcast for an audience of children but was recorded separately:

Yes - I think ‘pride’ can be a strange concept, and it can morph into something that is quite negative - protection of ego at all costs.

I guess other people define it differently to you.

I worked at london pride 3 years ago. It was the first and only time I have been to a pride event. The children's section, which was billed as suitable for young audiences, had a drag queen reciting catchphrases like "Trans women are women" and "sex work is work." Sad

Just googled my question.

PumpkinSpiceWoman · 02/06/2021 19:55

A lovely song. Such a happy little dolphin!

quiteathome · 02/06/2021 19:22

I don't understand all the sexualities. I don't expect a child to, and they shouldn't.

What is meant by queer?

merrymouse · 02/06/2021 19:12

@NewlyGranny

CandyLeBonBon, yup! But the NO bit means they aren't doing anything about it. If that were me, I might welcome a supportive group that made me feel less alone, but no way would I want an outing flag to march behind! I've never understood Pride, or pride, for that matter, things you had no say in or control over, like sexual orientation, birth nationality, height, race etc. Perhaps you won life's lottery and perhaps you didn't, but surely pride in something like nationality suggests that everyone else should feel shame for not being born into the same tribe?
The point of Pride is that it is the opposite of shame, and many gay people were made to feel ashamed of their sexuality.

The problem is that this has morphed into a movement that focuses completely on affirmation of identity in all circumstances.

TheWeeDonkey · 02/06/2021 18:28

When I first saw this I had to check the thread hadn't been created in April 1st but then I saw a news article from a grown adult gushing about how this episode "validates their queerness" Hmm and I just don't have the words I really don't.

@hazandduck

Oh my god *@IvyTwines2* I had no idea about John Kricfalusi! An actual paedophile! 😖
Well thats ruined the ‘happy happy joy joy’ song

How dreadful

CandyLeBonBon · 02/06/2021 17:19

Are they actually celebrating people who have a sexual interest in children? Have I read that right?

NewlyGranny · 02/06/2021 17:04

I guess everyone starts life as ace, really!

NewlyGranny · 02/06/2021 17:02

DD 2 was about 6 when a friend's mum, who had divorced and remarried, had a baby. Her innocent question about whether the new baby's dad was exDH, like the other DC, or new DH, and how mum knew (!) almost destroyed an adult friendship.

The idea of introducing little ones to concepts that many adults are struggling to understand (ace, pan etc) seems little short of lunacy. How do you explain all the different sexual preferences to someone so immature they don't even get what sexual attraction is? There's time enough for all that. All they need to know, as PPs have said, is that every family is different and there's no right or wrong way to make a family.

Though don't get me started on gay male "entitlement" to genetic children by using a woman's body.

Bergamotte · 02/06/2021 16:28

2 - 5 year olds can't understand sexual attraction. (and shouldn't have too) That's why you get toddlers saying when they grow, up they're going to marry their mummy.

Trying to explain "ace" to a child that young would leave them imagining that ace people were cold, heartless people with no capacity for love- which is completely innaccurate and is not going to make a child more accepting! Toddlers are not exactly going to discriminate against ace people when they themselves aren't sexually attracted to people and don't even know it is a thing.

Just keep having plenty of perfectly ordinary storylines that happen to include families with 2 mummies; 2 daddies; a single mummy, a single daddy; grandparents & grandchild; mum & baby who now live with the mum's sister; families where one parent works away from the home for long period (oil rig etc). No need to go on about peoples sexual preferences.

SmokedDuck · 02/06/2021 16:19

I am just really agog.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 02/06/2021 16:05

This is one of those threads I'd love the mainstream press to notice.

WhatsGoingOnHereThen · 02/06/2021 11:33

Am I awake? Genuinely is this shit for real?

Please someone just pinch me so I can wake up and major networks are not openly indoctrinating our toddlers with inappropriate sexual content. It's like a terrifying nightmare.
