Are we now not allowed to talk about our personal feelings on feminist issues?

I'm very upset that a support thread got deleted. From my perspective it looked like cynical goading of the OP and reporting so certain topics/associations wouldn't be discussed on a public forum. But I feel for OP who was having a hard time. 😕

JoodyBlue · 28/05/2021 08:16

The deletions are a nuisance. But they do mean that the arguments that remain are really watertight, evidenced, courteous, and balanced. MN FWR is accused of not being this way by people who don't like discussion full stop. But the strict moderation says otherwise. It is helpful that it is publicly available.

I’ve found somewhere else to hangout and learn about feminism and GC issues. Somewhere I don’t have to worry about phrasing things so carefully.

Is it safe to say where that is, ShastaBeast? I keep getting comments deleted too. I think the last one was for using the word ‘cult’.

ShastaBeast · 26/05/2021 04:29

I’m not going to post much. I’m clumsy with wording and get things wrong, even when posting sympathetically - I was very supportive of the trans issue and still feel for those affected. I’ll only get banned. Quite a few deleted posts most with no explanation. Possible neuro diversity on my part. I can’t keep up with what’s allowed or not.

However, I really appreciate the posters here and hope you can continue and dodge the ban. I’m sure many people are learning about these issues and finding out more because of these threads. I know I did.

Most women are older than 30. They may not be GC but they know what a woman is and humans have a strong sense of fairness when it comes to sports and safeguarding. Even sexist men see the reality of sexual dimorphism and that women should be protected from males in general.

More men will back this position. Very few men will see eye to eye with trans activists when it comes to who they have sex with, gay and straight.

EmpressWitchDoesntBurn · 26/05/2021 03:05

I'm not sure that the majority are GC when you consider how many woke women there are. Depressing but probably true.

But how many of them actually know what’s going on? With prisons, for instance? Or
DV shelters?

TheVoiceInMyHead · 26/05/2021 02:51

but it doesn't seem to matter that the feelings of half of society are hurt.

You can’t speak for half of society. My feelings aren’t hurt. Don’t speak for me or for anyone else thank you very much. Given what OPs post was about that is REALLY funny! Ironic in a way Dear Alannis never was Grin

@AdjustableAssholeSettings

From what I can gather, the spirit is to be "nice" and "kind". What the fuck does be kind mean anyway
In my experience it seems to mean allowing a large part of who you are get completely trampled over to benefit men.

I always see it as a manipulative appeal to female socialisation.

Fuck that.

In direct response to OP's question, of course you can and should be able to express how you feel. Feminism isn't some cold analysis.

Early women's liberation groups which created a hugely sucessful movement were based on groups where women shared experiences and feelings (consciousness raising), and from that then came up with an explantion, ie that the oppression they experienced came from men. Whether as individuals, or from the institutions and attitudes that men had created.

Being meetings IRL where outsiders were not monitoring language it was easier to talk about men with any number of descriptive terms and not have someone report you to some monitor for disrespecting men.

So how to dance on the head of a pin?

I suppose it is about being able to say the idea that someone can change sex makes me feel ..., rather than saying certain people make me feel ...

Not sure if that helps as I too have had threads deleted because I think the idea of what was being said made someone feel uncomfortable and rather than challenge the idea (in fact it was a research report) reported it for being anti something or other.

So I hope this wont stop you posting on here. It is quite honestly obscure, because in the end you are caught between other individuals who may have a personal response to what you have written and rather than replying to you run off to MNHQ. And then who ever is responding to the complaint then uses their personal judgement as to whether the complaint is valid.

I think you are entitled to say to MNHQ what do you mean "not in the spirit"? I'm new here. I cant intuite what you mean by spirit.

In fact it might helps us all if MNHQ wrote a short piece about this "spirit".

Confused

[quote ArabellaScott]A survey here that might be useful, for anyone interested.

I love the results of that survey. Surely it proves how ridiculous the whole issue is!

Maybe you belong to the other half then? I believe this is how maths works.

I'm glad that my thread has been left up so far and has even prompted a discussion. I appreciate you posting @Koolandorthegang although it's a shame you don't seem to have much else to go on other than getting a bit uppity about me making a generalised comment (another thing that seems to be acceptable if its offensive or derogatory to women. Funny that.)

There's a lot of helpful links here- love the idea of stickering and crocheting and will look at those this evening.

It's heartening to know that even though it feels very isolating in day to day life, there are other women out there who are working to give us a proper, sensible voice Smile

You'll note that someone feels it very important to come on here and berate people, fling insults etc, OP. That, too, is telling.

Some people just can't handle women discussing things. They really feel entitled to correct our thinking.

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 25/05/2021 13:33

Koolandorthegang

A grip on my books, you mean?

I see what you did there! Grin

Do you really think that “half of society” agree with the OPs views on this issue?

No. I rather suspect it's more than half. Do a survey. Tell them that more than 80% of transwomen do not have what is euphemistically termed as "bottom surgery", and then ask them if such people should use the open-plan women's changing room at the local munipical swimming pool.

The answers will shock you.

ArabellaScott · 25/05/2021 13:33

Do you really think that “half of society” agree with the OPs views on this issue?

No, I think it is probably more like 80-90%.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 25/05/2021 13:19

You’re coming across as quite the snob.

No, I just tend to call out disingenuous posts. The poster made an analogy which fitted the point she was making. She doesn't really think women will hand out her books. So doesn't need to "get a grip".

StrangeLookingParasite · 25/05/2021 13:15

Do you really think that “half of society” agree with the OPs views on this issue?

Every time they're asked clear questions, more than half do.

AdjustableAssholeSettings · 25/05/2021 13:11

I second joining the Resisters, I find having women to talk openly to is very helpful.
I'm also on Spinster.
As for children, mine is tiny but I don't doubt that I will be "too" strict about social media and Internet access. My concern is sex and PHSE education when they start secondary.

Thelnebriati · 25/05/2021 13:11

When you resort to personal insults I'll assume its because you don't have a case.

Koolandorthegang · 25/05/2021 13:05

@Ereshkigalangcleg

You need to get a grip.

You need to look up "analogy" in a dictionary. As well as a number of other words in common usage, no doubt.

Oh wow insulting my intelligence, good one. You’re coming across as quite the snob. No surprises there then.
