Oh it's their birthday.

WarriorN · 24/05/2021 16:50

I also just got assaulted by balloons when I went on their twitter.

WarriorN · 24/05/2021 16:49

Interesting rebrand.

The L is being shown the door and it looks like a giant penis.

highame · 24/05/2021 15:48

It will be interesting to see if Stonewall encourages any company special interest committees to claim that withdrawing from the scheme indicates a hostile work environment.

I hope they do, because that's Game Set and Match to Allison Bailey

OJ is always burning all his bridges with other papers and other journalists, to the point where he is effectively only employable by the Guardian. What will he do if they decide not to renew his contract?

They could cut his pay in half and he’d still have to work there. He has no other options. Unless he wants to move from journalism-activism to actual politics or something.

It’s a really odd, self-sabotaging approach to a media career.

EastWestWhosBest · 24/05/2021 12:25

Ooh I heard about this from the Radio 4 news but I didn’t catch what all of it was about.

drspouse · 24/05/2021 11:50

@KimThomas

OJ has worked himself up into such a frenzy I think he’s about to go into orbit.
quickly runs to Twitter to see this in real time

It was interesting to see Arty Morty on The Mess We're In #54 say that he used to find rainbow stickers and such comforting 10 or more years ago, but they've shifted their semiotics (I'm paraphrasing) and now when he sees it he is apprehensive about what it signals about attitudes to thoughts and compelled speech.

He certainly isn’t the only one who feels like this, many of us do.

FindTheTruth · 24/05/2021 11:14

The scheme makes for a hostile environment for many women, especially lesbian feminists.

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 24/05/2021 11:04

EHRC has provided a benign no-fault divorce template to all organisations. Allowing them to each 'review their budgets' and decide how better to get 'value for money'. This approach will likely result in more organisations making the break, than a self-flagellating mea culpa would.

It will be interesting to see if Stonewall encourages any company special interest committees to claim that withdrawing from the scheme indicates a hostile work environment. I'd like to see the company's ask for evidence of that alongside a 'value for money' case.

Making the main news headlines again.

Diaryofamadwoman · 24/05/2021 07:18

It was reported again this morning on R4

a no fault divorce template is a brilliant analogy @Barracker

A template to quietly make the problem go away. no public body policy team will want the backlash from publicly stating that being aligned to Stonewall goes against the Nolan principles.

NotTerfNorCis · 24/05/2021 06:57

This is great news.

The tide is definitely turning.

FindTheTruth · 24/05/2021 06:38

good news.

Employers will start looking at their Stonewall membership as a risk.

Cleanandpress · 24/05/2021 00:35

He's probably livid about Kathleen Stock being featured in the Guardian but he's got to vent his frustration elsewhere. Poor boy.

aliasundercover · 24/05/2021 00:11

His anti-Times hysterics are a little worrying. Does he really believe he's making himself look good and winning the argument?

KimThomas · 23/05/2021 22:13

Manderleyagain · 23/05/2021 22:07

On the wording on the BBC story - it could be that it's a statement given to the BBC journalist rather than an edited cut & paste from sex matters. That's the impression I got from the journalist's tweet. He said "statement from ehrc...".You would hope the BBC would contact ehrc directly.

Manderleyagain · 23/05/2021 21:56

I want to agree with this pp from way up thread
So I’m happy to say “That’s great, EHRC, good decision. Now, moving on, let’s carry on talking about what we do when protected characteristics clash”.

I think that's key. The new chair is obviously taking a v different line, and I agree with someone that pointed out that she will have had to be brave behind the scenes to do this (&the maya intervention), so it looks like she (& others? New trustees?) are willing to talk about how rights come into conflict and that's where the hard work begins. I hope she gets support in moving into that tricky work, I certainly appreciate what she appears to be starting to do but that's where they've got to go.

If I remember rightly, the parliamentary enquiry into the equality act recommended that ehrc produce guidence including case studies which would help services use the single sex exemptions. But they declined to do so. Maybe they can be encouraged to rethink that now?

We also need to identify & persue legal cases that will create case law on how to manage the conflict between the pc of gender reassignment & sex where single sex exemptions are used. That would be the most decisive way of preventing orgs like sw from getting their own version of the law into company policies. It can work both ways though of course.

teawamutu · 23/05/2021 21:04

The interesting one to watch will be government departments. They're all on the list at the moment.

LizzieSiddal · 23/05/2021 20:56

Fanny thanks!

McDuffy · 23/05/2021 20:38

A close friend of mine is senior HR/training at nestle, I asked her if they're dropping SW and she hadn't heard yet. My employer is also a "champion" and no chance of us leaving whilst the main relationship manager is still employed by us.

stumbledin · 23/05/2021 20:21

Sorry haven't had time to read replies since page 1 so this may have already been posted.

But I think it is noteworthy.

On the BBC Radio 4 news headlines at 1pm today this was an item. And it also mentioned what had happened at Essex University.

It may not have had much impact on Radio 4 listeners, but it may have made the BBC think a bit about how much of the Stonewall hogwash they have not only swallowed, but then repeated as though fact.

MrsMidClegs · 23/05/2021 19:52

You'd a thought the EHRC might be rethinking their own internal workings but job ads from today show they're still not quite there.
