Priti Patel Doing Her Job

Priti Patel, our Home Secretary, has been photographed attending the arrest of suspected people traffickers in London . Great you would think, the prosecution of organised crime, modern day slavery being rooted out and made an example of.

Yet ATM on SM there are masses of comments where Priti Patel is being described as a Nazi, Goebbels, evil bitch, ugly faced cow, Fascist, concentration camp guard, child murderer, and so on. She is even being criticised for her shoes, the type of footwear many South Asian heritage women wear. Also accused of masturbating (she has her hands in her pockets in the photo)

Most of these comments are from men. Why so much hate for a woman doing a tough job?

I'm just waiting for a thread to be created on this board saying how 'poor Carrie' is getting stick for getting Boris to hand jobs to her mates on a plate and how it's unfair 'coz she's a woman' (e.g. best friend Nimco Ali given £350-a-day of taxpayers money for a government role without it being advertised). Poor, poor little mite. 🙄

Devlesko · 27/05/2021 10:17

@Iggly

Do you mean she intentionally wants to stir up hate? If so, I don't think it's useful to start projecting motives onto people. You could easily be wrong

She’s done and said plenty to demonstrate her underlying nastiness, like 99% of right wing tories.

Of course she wants to stir up hate. I've evidence of this, will hopefully come back later and post it, i'll go through my files.

However, in the meantime look at her plan for ethnic cleansing of travellers, you don't need guns, just Pritti Patel and her new Police Bill.
Thousands will be made homeless, families with children, I'm interested to know if the families will be forced into temp accomodation and left there.

OK so you just want to demonize pretty much the entire other side. But that's not "nastiness" of course...

How am I demonising? Have you seen her comments about the death penalty? Have you seen what’s coming out in terms of policies against travellers? The way in which EU citizens are treated when they have legitimate reason to travel? Writing off legal asylum seekers as illegal immigrants? Her comments about BLM?

I’m not basing my opinion on her because she is a woman. I’m basing it on her actions and words.

To show she looks “strong and tough"

Why shouldn't a woman show that she is strong and tough?

Why should she by doing silly photo ops? It’s childish.

Just crack on and make proper changes founded in evidence, don’t try and fool people by having action shits. Reminds me of Putin riding his horse topless.

LobotomisedIceSkatingFan · 26/05/2021 06:55

' . . . maybe don't jump instantly to demonising people.'

They're not. Patel isn't an untried, unknown quantity: she's been peddling her ludicrous brand of hateful incompetence for years. They're demonising her based on that.

LobotomisedIceSkatingFan · 26/05/2021 06:45

Those things are qualities of the mind. They're not shown by wearing a bloody flak jacket.

If a politician is getting tough on illegal immigration you could spin it either way:

"They are whipping up the mob and inciting hate against migrants"

Or:

"They are doing their job; enforcing the law, and responding to reasonable concerns that the general public has about illegal immigration"

If people play the game of projecting bad motives onto others, that can always be turned back against them.

I'm not saying we should never consider motivations; but also, maybe don't jump instantly to demonising people. It actually says something about the person doing it.

Zinco · 25/05/2021 13:29

To show she looks “strong and tough”. It’s a way of stirring up yet more hate towards people who aren’t born here’s

Do you mean she intentionally wants to stir up hate? If so, I don't think it's useful to start projecting motives onto people. You could easily be wrong.

Or it will accidentally stir up hate? If a photo does that, she isn't really responsible as what she is doing is reasonably within her job description.

Is she just posturing as "tough" for reasons of her own political career? That's possible, but again, guessing at people's motivations has limited value.

I doubt that she can achieve all that much, as the Conservative Party are fairly rubbish. Although at least she isn't on the far left and demanding open borders!

Flaxmeadow · 25/05/2021 13:10

Because what PP is doing is just a stunt to feed the angry mob, and whip them into a frenzy etc. To show she looks “strong and tough”. It’s a way of stirring up yet more hate towards people who aren’t born here’s

Do you have any idea who people traffickers are and what they do?
They sell human beings, it's slavery, whether it's a grooming gang, illegal immigration, county lines or forced labour. They are hardened criminals profiting from organised crime misery and it also brings misery to the communities they operate in.

I can't get my head around people feeling sorry for people traffickers. What is wrong with you?

But to actually tackle the problem, arrests won’t do much. Not when there are court back logs. Also this country has a bigger problem with poverty in our own population. I don’t see politicians doing photo shoots for that.

Needmoresleep · 25/05/2021 11:22

I agree. When modern day slavery legislation was introduced I was surprised. Did slavery really happen in modern Britain. Publicising arrests has helped me, and presumably others, understand that it is all around us. (Those poor vulnerably men used as manual labour for decades, and starved and beaten, some workers in nail salons, brothels which fly girls in on visitor visas and then onto the next countries, country lines etc.) It then helps ordinary individuals to watch things that don't look right, and report if needed. An organised large group of people arriving together and spending low tide collecting cockles. The dodgy house clearance guy with strangely silent and withdrawn labour. Contract agricultural workers. Beds in sheds.

People who traffic humans are nasty and dangerous criminals. The more the ordinary person understands (weird knocking noises coming from a lorry parked at a motorway service station, say) the more it can be controlled.

Should a politician use their profile to bring publicity?

Yes.

Should PP?

Opinions are clearly divided. Why?

peadarm · 25/05/2021 09:54

@MargaritaPie

I know what they did was a crime, but the trafficking they did wasn't the forcing people against their will type into the UK. They people they smuggled into the UK wanted to come here and were willing to pay someone to smuggle them in.

I don't know if that makes it any "better".

But either way Patel is a politician, since when do politicians attend arrests?

The deaths of 39 young Vietnamese in the Essex lorry and the 21 Chinese cockle pickers on Morecambe bay illustrate two things: inhuman conditions and the use of gangmasters and bonded labour to maximise profits.

Forced labour is part of human trafficking, and the exploitation is not obvious to the individual at the outset.

Iggly · 25/05/2021 05:35

@TheRealMrsW

I believe Ms Patel is a great HS. People dislike her because she a woman of colour. I feel she is firm and fair. I think this country has been a soft target because of our liberalism. However, people have grown tired of Tiny Blair's Open door policy over the years without infrastructure implementation put first. Enough is enough.
Iggly · 25/05/2021 05:34

@Flaxmeadow

It isnt just about the shoes though is it.

She is being criticised for her appearance in general, and particularly her facial expressions. That she is too hard faced but what is someone doing her job, law enforcement, on serious organised crime supposed to look like?.

She has one of the toughest jobs in the country but it's about her 'hard' appearance but worse than that she is seriously repeatedly on SM being compared to Nazi concentration camp guards. Which is ludicrous. She is over seeing the arrest of suspected people traffickers, you know serious organised crime that often exploits women, the kind of criminals who keep people enslaved

The people she is watching being arrested haven’t had a trial or yet found guilty.

If she truly wanted to deal with crime and be tough on crime, she would be pushing for a properly funded court system. No good having tough sentences when it takes years to come to trial - because the courts have been stripped bare by over a decade of Tory austerity.

Iggly · 25/05/2021 05:32

I’d hate to think for a second that the abuse that PP gets on social media (which, I haven’t actually seen by the way) excuses her appalling track record.

She has shown herself to be a narrow minded racist quite frankly.

Social media is a cesspit. It shows the worse in society. If you turn off Twitter then it’s not really a mainstream issue. Twitter is not representative of real life!

twelly · 25/05/2021 05:25

I don't agree with many things that she says, but we live in a free country. She was voted in as part of the government fairly in a democratic election. We have a right to disagree with a persons views but we don't have a right to then vilify them.

Zinco · 25/05/2021 04:50

but, she's in it for the cruelty. Pure evil.

Projecting the worst possible motives onto your political opponents... does that make you one of the good ones?

Steph751 · 25/05/2021 01:16

Don't kid youself , she's a racist Tory who would sell her own grandma if she thought there £5 in it. Yes, she probably hates trans which I can imagine may be a plus for some people but, she's in it for the cruelty. Pure evil.

Flaxmeadow · 25/05/2021 00:27

I'm a bit doubtful that Priti Patel strutting around at an early morning arrest of vulnerable people...

They are not vulnerable, they have been arrested for PEOPLE TRAFFICKING !

...is going to do much for the cause of vulnerable women and girls

That's exactly who these arrests will help

She oversaw the passing of the domestic abuse bill into law, which made post separation coercive control, suffocation and strangulation into crimes and saw children recognised as victims of domestic violence in their own right. Men can no longer claim "sex game gone wrong" and therefore get away with murder by raping after (and therfore get away with rape, by murdering after).

For that, she has my thanks and my gratitude.

The Domestic Abuse Bill was introduced by Theresa May’s government and was delayed by Johnson’s shenanigans in proroguing Parliament.

It’s a bit rich to say Patel can claim responsibility for passing the Bill.

AIMummy · 24/05/2021 21:27

@askingrandomsonlinemighthelp

Talking about her shoes, race, looks etc. is not on. She is a massive bellend for everything she stands for though. Awful, awful woman.
I agree and I'm from the same demographic as her. She is a racist.

I'm also quite confident that no matter how odious she is, the commentators on her footwear may well be creepy GC men.
