JK Rowling has donated £1 million of royalties from one of her children’s books to help fight the Covid-19 crisis in India.

The Harry Potter author is understood to have split the sum between two UK-based charities involved in relief work, including the provision of emergency oxygen supplies.

A while ago I did a "vision board" of women who have power and are inspirational to me
Stealing this.

Note, women, not people

Quite. Tosser.

StandWithYou · 17/05/2021 13:44

I think that JKR has made relatively few comments on this. Emma Watson and Daniel Ratcliffe have probably tweeted a similar number of times. The issue is in how they were received and the impact they had. The response to JKR was immense, we’ve all seen the porn posted on her Twitter feed when she was supporting children through lockdown by commenting on their Ickabod drawings. It is, and was, the immense response that she had, that created the impression that she has commented more than she actually has. Plus the fact she is a better writer and has a coherent position that has created a larger impact. It brought it to a much larger audience due to the suck my lady dick etc that meant it hit the newspapers.

Her comments also show that there is a conflict between women’s and trans rights - no wonder they want to shut her down and disparage her. Shameful.

However the action of Godwin’s Law in real life has been very entertaining.

Go JKR my overlord and master.

andyoldlabour · 17/05/2021 13:36

What a lovely thing for JK to do, well done!

Erikrie · 17/05/2021 13:32

This male trans ally said: '...if women are allowed to question trans identity' then it opens the floodgates to all hate speech.

Note, women, not people

Wow. What an absolute prick. He is part of the problem. Not the solution.

BillyTodd · 17/05/2021 13:29

A while ago I did a "vision board" of women who have power and are inspirational to me.

I'm extra proud of her status on my board now Grin

Whatever you think about the trans subject, here is a woman who uses her power to stand up for what she believes to be truth and justice.

I hope one day that her infamous twitter speech will be considered to be the normal, non-hateful based in reality post that I read it to be from day one.

Erikrie · 17/05/2021 13:28

persistentwoman thanks for the charity link. I think I will donate. In multiples of £5. I wonder what else I could buy for £5. I'm sure there was something recently. 🤔
I prefer to donate money to worthy causes though.

Helleofabore · 17/05/2021 13:25

Apparently she should have kept her mouth shut, but presumably famous people with a different opinion can say whatever they like, and aren't responsible for the harassment and abuse coming from TRAs. Funny old world.

Yes. So it seems.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 17/05/2021 13:23

Good for her giving her own money. Hope other rich people put their money where their mouths are.

(I can't decide which is the craziest TRA thing I've read this week is... The comparison on pg1 or the blog post about children being transphobic for thinking a boy who likes princesses is still a boy...)

Carriemac · 17/05/2021 13:20

She is truly a great female role model, clever , kind, talented and principled .

Tibtom · 17/05/2021 13:20

@stonecat

So we've decided that money donated to transpeople is more important than money donated to combat coronavirus in developing populations?

Right. I'll bear that in mind. What else are transpeople more important than? So far on the list is women, coronavirus... anything else?

Everything.

This must be absolutely KILLING her haters. grin (Who hate her for absolutely naff-all by the way.)

Evidently, as we have posters never befoee seen on this forum popping up to cry "Bigot!". And failing miserably to substantiate their claims.

@peachgreen

have to disagree with you . She has supported trans rights all she has said is they should not supercede or overrule womens rights .

That is no different at all than saying men and women should have equal rights .

what is wrong with that?

Nodal · 17/05/2021 13:14

I thought I'd seen it all on twitter but that actually shocked me. A man, not even on an anonymous account, showing his true misogynistic colours, in this day and age. "If women are allowed" Sounds like something written in the 18th century, Steve Wardlaw, you massive, misogynistic prick.

As ever, I wonder what happened to these men as little boys.

OldLang · 17/05/2021 13:14

The flouncing is sad.

I genuinely want to see the answers to the questions we ask. It's not a gotcha or to catch them out (the gaps in their arguments inevitably reveal themselves) but I sincerely want to understand why and how those views are formed. More importantly, I want to know why some would see women suffer in the name of validating the feelings of a sex class that has dominated and opressed since the beginning of society itself. Why women are content to let men literally define us.
Not in the sense of a "sisterhood". I'm too worn down to believe in that anymore, but in acknowledgment of the fact women are more vulnerable and victimised on every level. Have we not lost enough yet?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 17/05/2021 13:11

A trans ally let the mask slip and allowed his misogyny to shine through this weekend in a twitter thread he wrote about what the new head of the EHRC said about women needing single sex spaces.

This male trans ally said: '...if women are allowed to question trans identity' then it opens the floodgates to all hate speech.

Note, women, not people.

Yes I saw that and posted about it on another thread. Shockingly misogynistic.

orientalknife · 17/05/2021 13:08

Thank goodness for women like her speaking out against nonsense

I don't want to use toilets or changing rooms where a man can decide to identify as a woman just like that. I will defend my rights as a woman to call myself a woman thank you very much.

I believe no one should be discriminated against for how they choose to live but I also believe in the safety and protection of girls worldwide

Comparing her to Hitler wtf! Well at least I learnt some interesting things about Hitler today

DialSquare · 17/05/2021 13:08

@peachgreen I know you have said you are hiding this thread now, however, if you are still reading, I think you are coming at this from the "be kind' angle. I've seen some of your previous threads and know you've been through a terrible bereavement but I also know you have a small daughter. If we continue to go the way that the genderists want us to, it will affect her life greatly. You can not show us anything that shows Maya F is transphobic. It seems like you have read it somewhere, bought into the myth and just repeating it here without any critical thought or looking into what actually happened. Many of us here are ex Labour members and/or voters. Why do you think so many left leaning women are GC? Could there actually be something in it rather than we all woke up as bigots one day?

RedDogsBeg · 17/05/2021 13:06

@peachgreen

Okay, being called "reprehensible" for not wishing to discuss someone else's experiences of sexual assault is about my limit here. I'm sure you'll continue to rip me apart for my completely non-controversial stance that JKR's charitable work can and should be separated from her views on trans rights and therefore celebrated regardless of your opinion on said views, but I'm going to hide the thread now.
aand there we have it, can't back up or defend their statements, slur someone and can't defend or back it up, no argument, no evidence, and off we flounce, pathetic.
Flippanty · 17/05/2021 13:04

I agree nodal, I know a lot people think it’s pathetic and we ‘worship her’ etc. but I for one feel so grateful to her that she has never backed down on this issue.

OldLang · 17/05/2021 13:04

We are no longer allowed to strongly disaprove or disagree?

Thankfully, in the absence of an edit button, you cannot rewrite history. Your disingenuous revision of the substance of your posts is here for all to see.

No comments on JKR stating she fully believed in trans people's "right to live any way that feels authentic and comfortable to them"?
You've said you disagree with her views on trans rights. Why do you disagree with something so inherent as someone's right to life? Because that's what she actually said if you'd cared to read.

Nonmaquillee · 17/05/2021 13:02

I love her even more now!

justaftb · 17/05/2021 13:01

A perfect example of the misogyny that lies behind TRAs motivations. He is not even hiding behind an anonymous account. A business owner and on the advisory board of the Terence Higgins Trust.

These people don't want women questioning anything, full stop. Protecting male privilege is the most important thing - doesn't matter how the male privilege comes packaged, it must not be questioned by women!!!

CharlieParley · 17/05/2021 13:01

You have not given a single example of JKR's "stance on trans rights".

Sorry, I didn't think I needed to? Her stance on trans rights is very clear. She made a statement outlining it. I don't agree with it. That's all I have said.

So you disagree with Joanne Rowling that transgender people should have equal rights to all of us and should be protected from discrimination and harassment because of their trans status? Because that is her publicly expressed view on trans rights.

I honestly struggle to see how you can possibly disagree with her on this.

For your information, Joanne Rowling's statement was not a statement outlining her views on trans rights, but a statement outlining her views on the importance of single-sex provisions for female victims of male violence and of the importance of those women being able to freely talk about their need for female-only provisions. And about the impossibility of addressing and remedying the discrimination women and girls experience on the basis of their sex if they are no longer allowed to talk about sex.

She mentioned her views on transgender people only briefly in that statement in confirming that she wants equal rights for them and that she wants them to be protected from discrimination, harassment and violence on the basis of their transgender status.

So again, please, which particular trans rights are you referring to when you say you disagree with Joanne Rowling's views on trans rights?

You have not given a single example of JKR "us[ing] her platform in ways that have legitimised transphobia

I have explained this.

Well, no, you have claimed her responsible for the social media posts of randoms on the internet. Are trans rights campaigners responsible for the horrific abuse meted out by randoms on social media to women who speak about their need for single-sex provisions? Do you honestly believe these trans rights campaigner are therefore legitimising misogyny and attacks on women? Because that is the flip side of the coin you're holding.

AlfonsoTheTerrible · 17/05/2021 13:00

There seems to be a mindset that GC = transphobic. That is a logical fallacy, of course, but it doesn't stop people using it.

And the more the term 'transphobia' is used to denigrate anyone who is GC, the less it has any meaning. Now it just means I don't agree with what you're saying so you're transphobic and you're transphobic because I don't agree with what you are saying.
