JK Rowling has donated £1 million of royalties from one of her children’s books to help fight the Covid-19 crisis in India.

The Harry Potter author is understood to have split the sum between two UK-based charities involved in relief work, including the provision of emergency oxygen supplies.

Because people confused about their gender definitely need more money than people dying by the hundreds of thousands by a deadly virus 🙄🙄

Well, thanks to cripez, I have learned something new today - Godwin's law. Maybe cripez was here to show this in live time and was using it as a teaching tool rather than this being their fast held belief.

OTOH if there are any rich people out there who can donate to families to provide proper counselling and not the automatic affirmation model currently offered by the major charities who are funded from public and philanthropic purses and also trauma and grief counselling to detransitioners then I think that would be money well spent.

But good on JKR!

There are loads of documentaries on Hitler's craziness on the History Channel, and similar channels. I saw the farting one the other day! He was also a drug addict and an occultist.

Comparing anyone you don't like with Hitler is the marker of a poor education, it really is. And it's irrational fear to mark someone as "evil" without any evidence.

JKR is an ordinary woman, as flawed and as complicated as the rest of us. Not a big bad monster, not some all powerful evil god trying to control people's brains. She's not in government, she is not controlling legislation or the public purse. She's not stopping anyone living their life. She is supportive of trans people. She has an extraordinary gift for story telling and a generous heart. There's not anything about JKR anyone needs to be scared of.

She does support trans kids, by reassuring them they're normal and fine and don't need life long medical intervention. And you compare her to Hitler. Get a fucking grip.
Exactly this. I watched the Swedish trans train doc that someone recommended on mumsnet with the very brave girls on there opening up about de-transitioning. Goodness me. Very scary. This is indeed where to help young children who would go ahead and do something they may regret for ever.
