JK Rowling has donated £1 million of royalties from one of her children’s books to help fight the Covid-19 crisis in India.

The Harry Potter author is understood to have split the sum between two UK-based charities involved in relief work, including the provision of emergency oxygen supplies.

@BlackForestCake

She does support trans kids, by reassuring them they're normal and fine and don't need life long medical intervention. And you compare her to Hitler. Get a fucking grip.
Perfect reply x
Hoppinggreen · 17/05/2021 11:29

So nobody is allowed to donate their own money to any cause NOT Trans related or they are basically Hitler?
I bought something from a CPL shop the other day and told them to keep the change. Clearly I am an Austrian Dictator from the 1940s who wishes to invade France and commit genocide.

peachgreen · 17/05/2021 11:28

@kit19 Any public figure who takes "a side" in a sensitive debate should take care to distance themselves from the extremes of said debate, yes. I can't think of a public figure with as high a profile as JRK who is as involved in this debate "on the other side", but I'm happy to be corrected.

Helleofabore · 17/05/2021 11:28

So, apparently. Even if she didn't say anything that was phobic, she is still phobic.

Because she supports women who have been branded phobic for standing up against the conflicts of one group's rights claim on the rights that all females need due to the discrimination the experience because their sexed bodies. ...

Got it. Thanks. I think I will still thank a woman who has decided to donate her money to the needs of others, and at times at personal cost, her voice.

persistentwoman · 17/05/2021 11:28
@HecatesCatsInFancyHats Oh, come on. Whether you agree that she herself has been transphobic or not, there is no denying that by coming out in support of the gender critical movement she has emboldened transphobes. It's inevitable when a public figure aligns themselves with one side of a sensitive debate.
How terrible for a public figure to speak out in favour of women having rights. Whatever next Hmm

AmaryllisNightAndDay · 17/05/2021 11:27

Hitler loved his animals

Well done cripez, you win the Internet.

Would be nice if, one day, she directed a small amount of her wealth, not even a tenth of the amount mentioned above, to supporting trans kids and their families.

I can think of loads of small charities it would be nice if she gave small amounts to one day, but it doesn't lessen the value and importance of what she did give right now.

Always nice to see a sense of proportion online Grin

Given that there are suggestions that Alois Hitler Jnr. was abusive to his wife, it's terrible to compare JKR to him.
A 1911 British Census document unearthed by genealogy website findmypast in 2014 shed further light on the lives of Irishwoman Bridget Dowling and her husband, Alois Hitler, Jr., the older half-brother of Adolf Hitler.

The Irish link to the Hitler family is one of the more surprising facts from 20th-century Irish history.

Bridget Dowling, a Dublin native, was still in her teens when she met Alois Hitler, Jr. at the Dublin Horse Show in 1909. The story goes that he told Bridget and her father that he was a wealthy hotelier traveling in Ireland, when in fact he was a waiter at Dublin’s Shelbourne Hotel.
The two eloped to London the following year, where they married and had a son, Patrick William Hitler, born in 1911.
Ironically, the house on Upper Stanhope Street was completely destroyed in a German air raid during WWII.

The Hitlers were long gone by then, however. Alois returned to Germany in 1914, without Bridget. Their relationship had soured, with some accounts saying he abandoned his wife and son, while others maintain that Bridget refused to go with him because he had become abusive. www.irishcentral.com/roots/history/census-shows-hitlers-half-brother-married-to-an-irishwoman-lived-in-liverpool

’Helping' children does not mean letting them destroy their bodies with surgeries, drugs, and social media-fuelled delusions.

Yep. It’s our responsibility to ensure that all children are sure of their decisions before making such huge, irreparable changes to their bodies.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 17/05/2021 11:27

She lost her status due to some charitable giving but mainly tax rates taking her below the £bn

She's amazing here too because she actually pays tax on her earnings instead of offshoring her income and dodging tax.

Hitler loved his animals but he still went all out on creating the perfect race. Still evil.

Would be nice if, one day, she directed a small amount of her wealth, not even a tenth of the amount mentioned above, to supporting trans kids and their families.

Wouldn't kill her.

There are no “trans kids” There are children being misled by a deeply flawed ideology that tells them their lovely, healthy bodies are wrong.

Are you comparing JK to Hitler? Seriously?
Kit19 · 17/05/2021 11:24

does the reverse apply? do celebrities who 'come out' in favor of abolishing single sex spaces encourage misogyny and hatred of women?

That's hilarious. Has to be a piss take, surely?

heathspeedwell · 17/05/2021 11:21

JKR is also an incredibly gifted writer.

I know she's already winning awards for her writing, but I genuinely believe her work would have received far more critical acclaim if she happened to be born male.

There is still a huge amount of sexism in the publishing industry.

What is it with the JKR worship around here?

Gosh. A woman who donates to charities. How terrible.

slashlover · 17/05/2021 11:18

@Bjarnum

After all the pathetic virtue signalling and preaching by people like the Sussexes and other "woke" celebrities how refreshing to see someone actually really doing something!
What was the point of bringing H&M into this thread?
ChloeCrocodile · 17/05/2021 11:16

What is it with the JKR worship around here?

Women supporting a woman who stands up for women's rights! On a feminism board no less! I'm shocked and scandalised! Grin

triphazards I'd just like to make it clear that I think the comparison of JKR with Hitler is fucking ludicrous and very unpleasant. I just included the detail of his flatulence because I'm not sure that his vegetarianism stemmed from love of animals.

SmallPrawnEnergy · 17/05/2021 11:14

@Queenoftheashes

I heard she’s the only person to lose billionaire status due to charitable giving
She lost her status due to some charitable giving but mainly tax rates taking her below the £bn. She also wasn’t the first but I know the “feminists” here won’t have a bad word spoke about their overlord.
justawoman76 · 17/05/2021 11:14

I heard she kicks puppies to death in her spare time.

Honestly.

No really.

On a serious note, JKR, thank you for having the guts to put your career on the line to tell the truth. I have heard that JKR is on Mumsnet so if she ever reads this, I hope she sees that she is supported by lots of women. I have never read any of her books so I'm not a 'fan' that way, but I AM a fan of her as a woman.

herecomesthsun · 17/05/2021 11:13

Go her. Very talented, brave, principled, inspirational woman.

Which has absolutely zero to do with her views on trans people. I don't think she's a hateful bigot, but she is wrong.
What is it with the JKR worship around here? If you need a public figure to back up your prejudices, you can't be very sure of them.
