"I'm wondering when any US newspaper is going stop printing the same old "why are there so many TERFs in the UK" article and and start reporting on what is going on here.'"

As an American, I am wondering this too!

rabbitwoman · 15/05/2021 07:25

Wow.

This Is surely going to help Maya.

What that judgement says absolutely astounds me...... No place in a democratic society?! WTF?!

highame · 15/05/2021 07:04

McDuffy · 15/05/2021 07:04

Reason and intelligence now rules the EHRC. There must be a lot of hand wringing by all her woke employees Grin

The sort of news we've been waiting for

eurochick · 15/05/2021 06:39

This is great!

Looks like tackling cancel culture at Abertay University may be her first challenge.

TWEETS part 1

Allison Bailey tweet

"We've waited a long time for this. Baroness Falkner, the new head of the
@EHRC confirms that it is ENTIRELY REASONABLE for women to challenge the status of males who identify as women.

Target & harass gender critical women at your peril.

Maya tweets:

"@EHRCChair "The principles are absolutely clear...freedom of belief is protected. So there wasn’t any doubt in my mind whatsoever" that we should intervene"

"I'm wondering when any US newspaper is going stop printing the same old "why are there so many TERFs in the UK" article and and start reporting on what is going on here.'

"@ehrc must drop Stonewall."

"They do not support freedom of belief"

Florence Jeffries tweet

"The Baroness may want to ponder on why so many have to be anonymous on Twitter. Women have been assaulted and hauled in front of the courts.
Maya Forstater isn't the only one who's lost their job. The Baroness should consider the EHRC's relationship with Stonewall."

noneedtoexpelme · 15/05/2021 05:54

Am astounded. In a good way.

FindTheTruth · 15/05/2021 05:46

social media firms action:

they should be compelled to verify the real identities of all their users to prevent perpetrators hiding behind the “cloak of anonymity”.

She added that this information should be made available to the police “to take the necessary action”.

“These companies cannot get by under the wing of free speech,” she said. “It’s not a free speech defense to be anonymous."

@FindTheTruth

this.....from a public body, my god

the commission has now backed Forstater’s appeal, arguing that the judge incorrectly interpreted the law that should have protected her right to freedom of belief and speech

Wonderful!

FindTheTruth · 15/05/2021 05:41

wow!!! just wow!!! the EHRC chairwoman's first interview since taking office - this is huge!!!!

Fallingirl · 15/05/2021 02:56

But I suspect she will be pushed out of her job very soon.

Why do you think this, stumbled? Simply because of her views and interpretation of the law, or is there something else going on that suggests this?

fireproofwitch · 15/05/2021 01:51

“Someone can believe that people who self identify as a different sex are not the different sex that they self identify,” she said. “A lot of people would find this an entirely reasonable belief.”
Basic common sense, how did we get to the stage where this became akin to hate speech

stumbledin · 15/05/2021 00:54

I was just coming to post the link to this article as I wanted the quote from the new head of the ERHC to be made as public as possible.

What is really important is what the new head of the ERHC has said, almost want to start another thread so that it gets picked up (as mumsnet is widely read).

Women must be heard on transgender identity, says new equalities chief

New head of equalities watchdog says law has to protect the right to express a belief

Women must have the right to question transgender identity without being abused, stigmatised or risking losing their job, the new head of Britain’s equalities watchdog has warned.

Please make sure as many people as possible hear this.

But I suspect she will be pushed out of her job very soon.
