Girl pushed under train.

Thelnebriati · 10/05/2021 22:50

The girls all have to run past the boys to board the train.
One girl is kicked in the face, spat on, shoved, tripped up, and ends up falling on to the tracks.

The guard in they hi vis yellow jacket just watches.

I'm at the end of my tether with male violence and entitlement.

@Cailleach1

Do you remember the male jogger who pushed a woman in front of a bus on Westminster Bridge in 2018? The police closed that case.
Can’t believe they never caught him and closed it, it’s attempted murder. Ridiculous

Going back to the theme of corporal punishment I attended school where this was a form of punishment.
I can categorically say whilst it is not ideal, the use of corporal punishment made my life in school so much better. It made me feel much safer.
Not a popular view but I speak from lived experience. I loved senior school. The kids who wanted to learn , like myself, did so. Those who would have made my life hell were prevented from doing so by the fear of punishment. The punishment did work in so far as it stopped the shits from crossing my path.
The message was clear. You bully a innocent child or try and make their life hell and my gif you will regret it. It really is that simple.
It probably didn’t do the bullies and nasty kids any good, who knows, do I care? No I don’t.
I can only speak from my perspective and say it absolutely made school 100% better for me.
One girl who kicked me in pe, a subject my form teacher took time to encourage me in as I was incredibly shy and laced confidence, was dragged out of the lesson and dealt with by this lovely teacher. She took no shit off anyone. Completely different from the experience my dd had to endure at the same school once consequences were removed from actions.
However let me tell you this. This mean girl never, ever crossed my path again, leaving me free to progress in pe and sport which is how it should be.
Interesting that I never saw the misuse of corporal punishment at senior school as all those in my class were kids who really wanted to learn. The disciple allowed for this. We had a fabulous time at school. The teachers of my class ( heavily streamed I might add) never had low level disruption. We never had to deal with the shit which teachers and pupils do now. I have worked in education and can categorically tell you behaviour has deteriorated.
Once again this is my experience but I won’t listen to anyone who hasn’t had the experience because you simply cannot judge weather it worked it not.
The school I attended produced many athletes who went on to compete at county level. The teachers were able to spend time focusing on developing the pupils skills rather than spending the lesson trying to get a child to put their pe kit on which is what my dd tells me happens on a regular basis now. Not an issue when I was at school if you were told to do it you did otherwise face getting your arse beaten.

Right, so your (fallacious) thinking would apply to the use of imprisonment also. But again, no one uses such a criteria in the first place, so actually, prison may be useful to society.

Where did I say it wasn't?

"A" criteria??

SelkieBe · 12/05/2021 22:39

I saw this video earlier in the week. Shocking. I hope that those thugs are punished. But is that ridiculous?! The poor girl that got knocked in between the platform and the train. Terrifying. She was only 17.

If the Dart management won't allow their guards to intervene, at least they should make access easier so that those girls wouldn't have had to run the gauntlet into harm's way.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 12/05/2021 21:33

Me too - thankfully not physical but there is definitely a mentality of unable _not to make a smart arse comment to anyone ‘weaker’ waking by. Of course you spot them and can’t help tripping over something or something else that would attract attention.

I suppose it’s good training for avoiding chuggers or random shouty/drunk/crazy eyed people in the street/on the bus (or the woman with the tambourine near my office who sings at you - or the two ‘normal’ looking women who wait until you are walking by and then scream ‘you are all going to hell!!’ in your face whilst waving a bible at you).

MadameOvary81 · 12/05/2021 20:47

It's so awful and watching it conjures up all sorts of feelings. I grew up surrounded by boys like this in 90's Glasgow. They were utterly feral. It was mostly verbal abuse they hurled at you, but occasionally there was violence.

One particular set of brothers were very into martial arts and would terrorize those they deemed weak - so the girls, the gay guys and the well-behaved kids from good families. We were all constantly subjected to flying kicks to the face to intimidate us. Like the girls in that video, if you saw them, you put your head down and prayed they wouldn't pick you out of the crowd. You won't be surprised to know they are still a pair of smug, nasty bastards. Untouchable and they know it.

I don't think they know or care about the lasting damage they've done to so many folk. Walking past a group of teens makes me feel sick - even 25 years later.

NewlyGranny · 12/05/2021 17:34

Notice how it was the other young women who were first to try to rescue the victim, who may have been their friend, and the serial tripper and the kicker scarpered while the serial spitter just looked on with his hands to his head in shock, doing nothing helpful, though his physical strength could have been useful in the rescue.

NewlyGranny · 12/05/2021 17:30

The petition can't do any harm, can it? If the young man isn't in fact signed to the club, the petition means he will probably never be, even when the furore over his actions dies down.

Moreover, it makes him practically unsignable to any club.

There need to be consequences to actions like this. One of the first things I taught my children was that people are not for hitting/kicking etc. Either he wasn't taught this or he doesn't consider young women to be people...

AnCatDubh · 12/05/2021 16:42

This is so disturbing. Those poor girls. The idea that they are used to just putting their heads down and trying to run that gauntlet is awful.

It's interesting to read the different perspectives on how young men are getting to this point. I grew up around boys that had part time/ summer work from their early teens, physical jobs that left them tired and taught them skills. They were around older men who taught them what was and wasn't acceptable behaviour. They made mistakes, got pulled up on it, developed pride in their abilities, knew they were valued for their efforts, made friendships across generations that have lasted and were definitely taught and expected to respect women. Not saints by any means but never violent.

Is that available to many teenagers now? Seems like they have everything they could want and no sense of purpose or sense of belonging to a community that they contribute to. So they cause chaos with little consequence.

Where does that leave our girls? When I watch the news, I feel as though my daughters' worlds are shrinking daily.

I'm not worried about a football club. I'm fed up of the misrepresentations, conspiracies and insinuation which run wild on mumsnet. Already today another thread was deleted because of the wild speculation about someone's murder.
I see your point in general but not in this case.

There is no conspiracy, misrepresentation or insinuation - there video is very clear.

The club can say Yeah or Nay. It is a side bar.

NOT ONE of the boys stop and try to help pull the girl out
It would be considered an act of disloyalty to the perpetrator and they are afraid to defy him?

How about, because his name isnt listed on any of their teams?
He played football for them in the youth team, which parents pay a membership for. He hasnt been signed to their under 19s or their men's team.

If I were that football club, I wouldn't issue any statement in regards to his position until I had checked exactly how many matches he played in, whether or not his membership was still active, whether or not he had been approached to be signed to the team etc.
Why are you so worried about the club?
They are grown ups, and can look after themselves surely?

@Brokenpencilsarepointless

Pretty sure they released a statement because any business whose name was dragged into this would have released a statement.

Their statement didnt mention him or his club position or contract. All they said was they oppose violence against women etc.

Until someone comes out and shows a contract he has with that club then people need to calm down. He played for their youth team. My kids play on a youth team. They arent signed to the club.

And I'm sure you're wrong. If he wasn't there the football clubs statement would be that the Individual is not employed there, not that they are going to investigate and deal with it properly and fairly.

Is there a reason you think he doesn't play for them? Is it just because someone on twitter said so?

Good post Annasgirl. A previous poster mentioned the guy who sorted out this problem in Glasgow. The Gardai could do worse than seek his advice.

Sounds about right. Gurrier is old school anyway. These lads are 'scobes' or ' skangers' now according to my DSs.Confused

This is a beautifully written, poignant article about the effect this video has had on us here.

For all the posters who are saying "that's Dublin for you" and "I'll never visit because of this" - Roisin expresses the reaction of most of us who live here, who call Dublin home. Who love this city and are wondering how we can save it.

I live in an amazing place, but I realise not everyone is as lucky. And, in the same way as I lend a voice to those who have no voice in other campaigns, I think we need to stand up and be counted now. We need to make this our "no more" moment, where we take to the streets to say to our government - no, we will not tolerate this violence anymore - what are you doing to keep our streets safe for our children?

Mamette · 12/05/2021 10:04
@Straussful thanks for teaching me a new word, gurrier. I have not been in Ireland long and am trying to learn the slang!
Playing truant in Dublin used to be ' going on the gur'. There is a cheap sort of bread pudding called Gur cake. Presumably this was all the 'gurriers' could afford. But whether the name originates with the cake or the truants I couldn't say. Chicken and 🥚🐣!

Ladybirdkiss · 12/05/2021 09:37

Why didn’t the football team just deny he was signed to them then? It doesn’t make sense for them to do an investigation if he’s not even there. That would be the simplest statement from them
