Not a surprise and hopefully it’ll open some eyes about the utter ridiculousness of allowing someone who is male to compete against women in weightlifting

DH actually listened to me after this item came on the ITV news briefly last night. The large photograph was helpful.

mum2jakie · 22/06/2021 08:04

Being discussed on Good Morning Britain. Shame that the panel members only include transwomen, debating an issue that affects women in sport.

2Rebecca · 22/06/2021 08:02

Excellent article. I do think the effect of trans athletes in women's sports is going to be seen to be so obviously unfair if they persist in allowing it that the situation will be reversed. It's how many female athletes are screwed over by the system until they do that that is the question.

TheWeeDonkey · 22/06/2021 08:00

Kristi is a liar. Laurel would be out of the competition because hes a middle aged man. This makes me so angry.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 22/06/2021 07:55

Coming up on GMB shortly. I'm betting it's a wishy washy "be kind" conversation. They don't have the balls to challenge this stuff in GMB.

Not any more they don’t weetorag.

TheChild · 22/06/2021 07:44

They'll be discussing it on GMB in a few minutes I think, will be interesting if anyone on the panel can say they think it's fair and how they will justify it.

elgreco · 22/06/2021 07:39

If the rules were fair Laurel would not have qualified.

EndoplasmicReticulum · 22/06/2021 07:37

And couldn't even spell her name correctly. Zero shits given.

WotgunShedding · 22/06/2021 07:21

sophocles no circle to be squared - it’s already “fair and square”.

Wondering exactly that kept me up last night Sophocles.

Sophoclesthefox · 22/06/2021 06:34

I want to know how “intersectional” feminists square this circle.

Manumua is a woman of colour, coming from a developing nation (not sure of her financial background, so won’t comment on that, other than to say that other Pacific island lifters that I’m aware of very much do come from underprivileged backgrounds). Hubbard is a rich white person from a developed nation (as well as the blatant extra privilege Hubbard also enjoys).

How is intersectionality happening when the inclusion of Hubbard is “more inclusive” than the inclusion of Manumua? Trans athlete inclusion is better than WOC?

Do they not ever stop and think, hang on, this isn’t how this stuff is supposed to work, if women of colour still somehow end up getting pushed out?

Do their heads not explode trying to justify why a Y chromosome is still top trumps for everything?

No, I know, I know, the correct response to my questions is “STFU T*RF”, silly me!

minsmum · 21/06/2021 23:25

Majid Nawaz is on LB C talking about this now staying that it is not fair

MrsPsmalls · 21/06/2021 23:24

My 83 year old father brought this to my attention today bless him. He said 'this chap, who seems to think he is a woman, is going to compete at the Olympics ' I told him this wanker will not be the only one and he is astounded! Says the world has gone to pot and he has clearly lived too long. Super bright sunlight - go Lauren!

WeeTorag · 21/06/2021 23:20

Laurel cheating Hubbard being discussed on GB News shortly. Dan Wootton's show.

Sonarl · 21/06/2021 22:45

It needs to be in Chat tbh judging by the 9/10 'normal blokes" that have mentioned this to me or in general conversation recently - each one outraged.

MsFogi · 21/06/2021 22:43

This is the sort of thread that now needs to be started in the Sports section rather than being hidden in this siding for hiding bad feminists!

newrubylane · 21/06/2021 22:00

His time as a student at a proud formerly all-female university college (also my alma mater) clearly made a big impact on him, then. Eye roll

Arrowheart · 21/06/2021 21:44

It's fucking ridiculous amd an insult to all the women competitors.

Deliriumoftheendless · 21/06/2021 21:39

@WarOnWoman

"If you’re going to call trans women male I’m going to tap out of this conversation."

Tom Harwood on Twitter.

Er, what does he think a TW is?

The replies have got him on the “here’s my excuse to get out of an argument I’m outclassed in by calling bigot!” ruse.
MaudTheInvincible · 21/06/2021 21:14

This does seem to be drawing some interest in the UK at least. Trans is now trending here with over 200k tweets.

[quote MiladyBerserko]Not sure if this has been posted...

This is the woman who was cheated out of her place by Hubbard.

That's just so upsetting. I know on a personal level how much of their life and their teenage/young adult years women and girls give to being dedicated to a sport and aiming for the top.

It's indescribably cruel.

MouseyTheVampireSlayer · 21/06/2021 20:50

That's so sad. I've been to Tonga, the people are lovely and their lives are very simple compared to Aus and NZ.
So this would have been an even bigger deal for the woman that missed out than a woman from the mainland who missed out, if that makes sense.
