I can't remember ever hearing of a woman committing such a crime. I'm shocked, stunned, almost catatonic in disbelief.

“Two of the three you cite were the sidekicks of violent men. It is extremely unlikely that, had they never met those men, they would ever have killed.”

You can’t be referring to Allitt, so if you think Rose West was a “sidekick” to Fred then you’ve not read any of the trial material, or the books about them or watched any of the interviews with the investigating policemen.

She was the brains and driving force of that partnership, something which the many women they brutalised testified to. She liked to use increasingly large dildos on her female victims until they protested. She’d then tell them they were weak for not being able to take the pain.

Rose killed one of her stepchildren when Fred was still in prison, having physically abused her and her sister over the six months he was inside. That was all on her and the evidence points to many of the other murders being driven by her sexual fetishism.

As for Hindley, even if you choose to believe it was his influence that twisted her, she lured the victims into her car and drove them to the murder sites. She played an active role.

Linda and Charlotte Mulhall murdered and dismembered their mother’s abusive boyfriend in Dublin.

MissBarbary · 04/05/2021 22:18

@Deliriumoftheendless

Rose West was definitely a sexual predator.
I started reading but had to give up because it was so sickening, an account of the lives of Fred and Rose before they met.

Both were from families steeped in depravity probably going back generations, and yes, Rose was a sexual predator long before she met Fred.

MissBarbary · 04/05/2021 22:14

There was this pair of teenage girls and I'm sure I've seen other reports of awful crimes by teenage girl gangs.

www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/uk-news/2016/apr/07/angela-wrightson-girls-tortured-alcoholic-hartlepool-life-sentences.

So far as West and Hindley there's little beyond wishful thinking that they would not have done what they did had it not been for meeting their male partners in crime.

So far as women generally not being involved in violent murders that might be true where the victim is an adult but many children have been murdered by their mothers.

Deliriumoftheendless · 04/05/2021 22:13

Rose West was definitely a sexual predator.

SunshineCake · 04/05/2021 22:08

Apologies. I misread. Eye sight is deteriorating.

SunshineCake · 04/05/2021 22:06

How is it a honour killing? Seems she was murdered as the killer was annoyed the victim wouldn't have sex with her.

Babygotblueyes · 04/05/2021 22:04

I wonder if after Sarahs murder the press is treading more carefully in their reports about women and so dont know how to report this if they cant do their usual misogynistic crap. As for the offender - sadism is present in about 6% of the population overall but more likely to be men rather than women. Same with psychopaths. So this is really really rare.

LastRoloIsMine · 04/05/2021 21:55

She will just be another prisoner.
She will in her first few weeks be monitored and evaluated some of it maybe in isolation but that's mostly to do with monitoring mental health however there is no reason to isolated her.

Prison is not a safe haven.

AnnaMagnani · 04/05/2021 21:52

She won't be the only woman in there capable of a violent attack in response to rejection or anything she has misunderstood due to her personality disorder.

The prison officers will be dealing with behaviour like this every day from very damaged women.

I doubt she would be in isolation at all.

denverRegina · 04/05/2021 21:49

"Isolation?"

For over 2 decades? Grin No, not happening.

denverRegina · 04/05/2021 21:48

"she will be kept apart from other women. It is very rare and spaces for very violent female criminals are available in a couple of womens prisons, but only a few"

I don't know where you are getting this information from but it's wrong. She'll be with the general population very quickly once she's been assessed on the first night care unit.

Pota2 · 04/05/2021 21:41

@Shizuku

Utterly horrific.

If she goes to a women's prison, how will the other prisoners be protected from her?

Isolation?
sanluca · 04/05/2021 21:40

Shizuku, she will be kept apart from other women. It is very rare and spaces for very violent female criminals are available in a couple of womens prisons, but only a few.
In that way she is actually worse off than male prisoners who are sentenced for murders. There is more capacity in the mens because there are so much more of them. They at least get to interact with each other a little.

But this women, she will have very limited contact with anyone for years.

Pota2 · 04/05/2021 21:39

There are definitely instances of violent female killers, eg Joanna Denehy in the UK and Katherine Knight in Australia. Also, the idea that Rose West wouldn’t have killed if she hadn’t met Fred isn’t borne out by the fact that she murdered Fred’s daughter, Charmaime, when Fred was in prison. This was before they began their murders in earnest. There are also women who have been involved in dismemberment such as Shauna Hoare, who helped kill Becky Watts.
And of course women who have committed planned and brutal murders, such as Jodi Arias in the US, who stabbed her ex-boyfriend 27 times and then slit his throat.

LastRoloIsMine · 04/05/2021 21:37

Two of the three you cite were the sidekicks of violent men. It is extremely unlikely that, had they never met those men, they would ever have killed.

I totally acknowledge that but they were and still are front page news thats my point. Even when they are not the "killer" the women are still front page news for many years after.
Why isn't this woman?

1. Pestered the victim for sex

Unusual yes but not unheard of.

2. Bought a circular saw and used it to dismember the victim into six parts

Very unusual. I agree. Female murders tend to be disposers not dismemberers. Too much mess. Too much clean up. Too much in general.
Historically women are in the moment murderers or throw away murderers as in dump babies in rivers or pretend it was natural. Women very rarely go in for dissection.

I distrust the media so much at the moment I have decided to keep my thoughts to myself on this one.

AnnaMagnani · 04/05/2021 21:36

From the very limited info available Gareeca appears to have had a personality disorder, been sexually abused and been in an abusive relationship.

Her childhood was probably horrific and as a result she ended up a dangerous violent mess.

@CallMeCleo

Incidentally I have searched the GRO online for Gareeca's birth (they say she was from London) and nobody of that name was born in the UK at any time. Change of name?
I thought she had moved there from Jamaica.
CallMeCleo · 04/05/2021 21:21

Mystery solved: she was born in Jamaica and came here in 2000.

Someone on Reddit says they went to school together, so there is not a shadow of a doubt that this she is female.

I think I read she came here at around 7. Can’t remember where though - likely Sky or BBC, I’ve not read much about it.

What a terrible, appalling murder, my heart goes out to the family and friends of Phoenix
