I struggled to even come up with a title for this thread as I am so enraged I know I will get deleted and even banned if I say what I really think.

ForWomen.scot tweeted "We would be grateful if Edinburgh Rape Crisis or @scotgov would explain their legal understanding of Schedule 9 of the Equality Act with specific reference to statute rather than policy."

justaftb · 03/05/2021 13:13

Wow. The advertisement for the role explicitly says:

'Only women need apply for the above posts under Schedule 9, Part 1 of the Equality Act 2010.'

The only women who matter anymore are women that have a penis. They matter more than women who have been violently sexually assaulted.

ConfusedAdultFemale · 03/05/2021 13:11

“Gender” based violence? Let’s call it what it is in the very least ffs.

Thelnebriati · 03/05/2021 13:10

I'm so angry about this.

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 03/05/2021 13:10

So should men just turn up for women only jobs in their kilts from now on? Violent threats/images on your twitter no problem either apparently.

@Ereshkigalangcleg

It's part of teaching us that we are not allowed to have boundaries.

This. This is what is is. This is the endgame of trans activism. Women are not allowed to be uncomfortable or have a female space. Even if abused by males, even when traumatised.

This absolutely all this is. Someone determined to take up women's space, where they KNOW they are not wanted. Funny how all that safe space woke bullshit never applies to women.

littlbrowndog · 03/05/2021 13:05

Oh yeah and the racism ffs

Unsure33 · 03/05/2021 13:05

I agree this is not about the qualification for the job .

If it had no restrictions on who could apply a man could have got the post . As a CEO probably not a problem as no direct contact with victims.

so the question is WHY did they only want a woman for the post
and why does woman implicate gender not sex ?

littlbrowndog · 03/05/2021 13:05

It’s about pushing boundaries

If raped women and girls have no choice but to accept a man in this position

RosaLuxemb0urg · 03/05/2021 13:01

This is really terrible! Is there anything that can be done about this? Surely it is unlawful as well as immoral.

WallpaperLady · 03/05/2021 13:01

@FightingTheFoo

Incredible that they carve out "BME" women with trans women.

It is SO racist! It is just so fucking racist. And dehumanising.

BME women are still WOMEN you fucking muppets. They don't need to be carved out into a separate group with people who are not biological women.

Hear, hear 👏 👏 👏

[quote ItsAllGoingToBeFine]According to twitter (it'd be great if anyone could verify)

The new CEO of Edinburgh Rape Crisis, a transwoman, laughed at a survivor while she stood up in a meeting at the Scottish Parliament to talk about how she needed single-sex spaces; this mockery is abusive & was witnessed by MSPs. Today, @ChristinaSNP congratulated that abuser.

Wadhwa sniggered and eye-rolled during a conversation about MVAW. Later MW tried to claim this was a "trauma response". If Wadhwa's uncontrollable reaction to women talking about MWAV is to giggle, perhaps this is an incredibly inappropriate job for them to take?

This was Joan's tweet at the time. I remember seeing MW's reply claiming it was involuntary, but most of Wadhwa's tweets from then were deleted. twitter.com/JoanMcAlpine/status/1131472778228637696?s=20

MadameKali · 03/05/2021 12:56

You have got to be fucking kidding me.
What is wrong with organisations that are supposed to be there for women in crisis? This person has shown themself to be dishonest about certain things in the past. But hey-ho it's only women who gives a fuck. Validation of a minority is much more important than the safety and dignity of women. The message couldn't be clearer.

I have so many thoughts on this but not as eloquent as many FWR posters so I'll leave it there.

Alicethroughtheblackmirror · 03/05/2021 12:51

This is a day after this outrageous, gaslighting answer from Sturgeon to questions about the GRA in which she essentially said that women were ignorant or bad.

The whole thread is breath-taking but this bit stands out - especially as I am sure she knew about this appointment:

"And one of the other misconceptions at the heart of this is that simplifying the process of gender recognition takes away the protections and the safeguards women have under the equalities act- for example, access to single sex spaces. That is not the case."
(wonder if it was Sturgeon or the journo who didn't know the name of the legislation)

Which sort of makes horrible sense, Sturgeon doesn't think GRA will affect women's single-sex rights because she and her chums have already destroyed them.

highame · 03/05/2021 12:51

I wonder if it's worth referring this to the Charity Commission regarding the lack of expertise in the organisation and the lack of expertise of the applicant who is now the CEO.

I have posted this on another thread because I am sure the Charity Commission have a duty in this respect to ensure expertise is high in an organisation where the most vulnerable are being cared for

This is a personal move and is the utmost of validation.

It's also clearly political.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 03/05/2021 12:46

Mridul Wadhwa has been working within the women's shelter system for years. She is eminently experienced and completely suitable for the post.

This isn't a case of trans tokenism causing disadvantage for women. This is someone with all the correct qualifications and experience getting a job they can do well.

So naive. Wadhwa left the SNP in a tantrum because they unexpectedly voted in favour of female rape victims being able to specify that they wanted to be examined by someone of the same sex rather than the same "gender". This person does not centre women.

JustGotHere · 03/05/2021 12:46

Those are porn categories of women.

JustTurtlesAllTheWayDown · 03/05/2021 12:46

The best person for the job is never going to be someone who dismisses one of the most common trauma responses in rape victims because their personal beliefs indicate that response is bigoted.

Trappedonanisland · 03/05/2021 12:45

This is the person who did not disclose that they were trans when initially joining Rape Crisis Scotland ? So once their gender status was discovered ,RCS thought to promote them up the career path. How many other candidates tell fibs in employment and keep their jobs? I'm appalled . So sad and angry about this.

Alicethroughtheblackmirror · 03/05/2021 12:43

ODFOx, Wadhwa may be experienced, may even be a good person (although I am dubious about that), but they have no right or business to apply for a job which is reserved under schedule 9 of the Equality Act as this one was.

Wadhwa has admitted not having a GRC on a Pink News podcast and has claimed that no one asked about trans status so Wadhwa didn't tell.

In evidence to the Women's and Equality committee, Wadhwa claimed the GOR was discriminatory.

Of course, it is discriminatory and that is the entire point. It is legal discrimination to ensure that jobs which require intimate care or counselling can be reserved to one sex. Wadhwa and RCS have no right to decide the law does not apply to them. Or worse, to cite it when it suits and ignore when convenient.

What they have now done is indirectly discriminate against other male people and they may run into legal issues for falsely claiming to survivors that their jobs are reserved under EA.

Rape Crisis can, of course, decide not to use the exception, but they cannot use this Schrödinger's version of the GOR. You, and they, may assert that MW has no malign intent, but that is irrelevant, it opens the door and the consequences may not be to their liking. Sadly, though, it is vulnerable women who will suffer.
