Honestly it's painful engaging with some of these unhinged arguments sometimes. I've got a post vaccine headache and I'm not my usual delightful self.

Daft "gotcha!"-type sophistries are all you've got when you don't have a rational argument or evidence.

Binglebong · 02/05/2021 14:27

I believe the sky is often blue. I hearby align with everyone else who thinks the sky is sometimes blue.

Who decides which thoughts we should follow?

WindyPudding · 02/05/2021 14:27

(I don't mean been here before wrt trans ideology specifically, but harmful ideology in general.)

WindyPudding · 02/05/2021 14:26

I only hope we're not slap bang in the middle of another (currently unimaginable) shitshow as we shake our heads in bewilderment at this one.

I do have some optimism that the horror of what's going on is leading to increased awareness of misogyny and of the importance of sex-based rights, science and facts.

We've been here before - the pendulums of puritanism-vs-freedom of thought, science-vs-ideology, feminism-vs-misogyny swing to and fro.

Unsure33 · 02/05/2021 14:26

@BrizzleGirl

Can’t imagine that to be honest .

EdwinPootsLovesArchaeology · 02/05/2021 14:25

If a very large majority of a population think that biology is real, then fucking well obviously some of them are going to be right wing, some will be in the centre ground, and some will be left leaning.

Honestly it's painful engaging with some of these unhinged arguments sometimes. I've got a post vaccine headache and I'm not my usual delightful self.

IsThePopeCatholic · 02/05/2021 14:19

It’s so obvious she’s right.

HPFA · 02/05/2021 14:18

@Wroxie

Jenner is a self-interested right-wing celebrebuplican who will say exactly what her focus group says she needs to say to appeal to the worst, most hateful, and most ignorant voters in the United States. She supports policies that are anti-woman (trans or not), anti-family, and racist. She's a fucking fascist just like the rest of her party.

This is who you choose to align with. You're being used and played as fools. It would be funny if it weren't so destructive and so very, very sad.

And you're aligning with people who now don't even want transwomen to have to make any alterations to their bodies to be able to participate in female sports. Female sports could be completely eliminated.

And you wonder why females are upset about this?

Letsgetreadytocrumble · 02/05/2021 14:10

This is who you choose to align with.

Well if that's how this works then this is who you choose to align with 🤷‍♀️

@WindyPudding

I can only hope we look back on this crazy time and laugh.

I was pondering the other day the number of phds and articles that will be written on it and how we'll dissect how we managed to sleepwalk into prioritising an overtly sexist, harmful and illogical ideology over facts and science.

Of course some of us are doing that now but we're just sad and laughable...

I only hope we're not slap bang in the middle of another (currently unimaginable) shitshow as we shake our heads in bewilderment at this one.

The people who feature in this link all fervently support the inclusion of transwomen in female safe spaces etc. Would you align yourself with them?*

@TheWeeDonkey

See this is the thing, when it comes to sport there is absolutely no difference between male and female bodies, but when it comes to affirmation surgery gender reassignment surgery and the emphasis on 'passing' is essential to life.

So which is it?

Yes, good point!
2021ismyyear · 02/05/2021 14:03

If they don’t believe in science and biology then I think the nhs should stop funding hormone stuff, gender surgery etc. None of it matters in that case.

I can only hope we look back on this crazy time and laugh.

I don't think males should be competing in female categories in sports, neither does Caitlyn Jenner. So fucking what?

Or am I supposed to change my view and say 'yeah let's let any male who feels like it compete in women's sports and if that affects women then that's tough shit for them' just so that I'm not 'aligned' with CJ? Cos I'm not going to do that.

Erikrie · 02/05/2021 14:01

This is who you choose to align with.

Lol. It's not a requirement to agree with someone on all of their beliefs in order to agree with one or more points. Although if CJ also confirmed that they believe women's spaces and safeguards are important and that they would fight to uphold that position, then that would be quite a vote winner ☺️

WindyPudding · 02/05/2021 13:57

And three sets of changing rooms and toilets as well.

Agreed - or since it's a minority, one single special toilet or small changing cubicle, like the disabled toilet, for those who aren't happy going in the facility for their sex.

It would then cost no more money/space than providing for disabled people, and I think that's a reasonable solution.

ErrolTheDragon · 02/05/2021 13:55

Disregarding the views of someone who has very relevant, direct experience of participating in sports at a high level, and of being trans seems like a sort of 'pro trans panic' response.

WindyPudding · 02/05/2021 13:53

Oh and if you think agreement on one point means alignment, then supporting transgenderism would align you with some unsavoury characters indeed.

TheWeeDonkey · 02/05/2021 13:52

WarriorN · 02/05/2021 13:52

Actually, high school boys scores v female Olympic athletes.

WarriorN · 02/05/2021 13:51

By the way, this is a good source of stats for sport, males and females.

WindyPudding · 02/05/2021 13:51

This is who you choose to align with.

Of course not. Agreeing with what someone says is not aligning with everything else about them. I am glad CJ has said this as a prominent trans person AND successful athlete who is highly qualified to comment. I agree with the statement, just as I'd agree if Donald Trump said it, or even Pol Pot.

The alternative is to be so immature and petty that you would have to disagree with something true and factual that someone said just because you don't share their politics. That's a very silly look.

You're being used and played as fools. It would be funny if it weren't so destructive and so very, very sad.

That's exactly how I'd sum up trans ideology.

Do you really think it's more destructive and sad that a left-wing feminist agrees with one statement from a right-wing person, than that sporty girls everywhere might have to abandon their hopes of a sporting career, if this ideology continues to be believed?

ErrolTheDragon · 02/05/2021 13:51

Something like archery? Gymnastics? Bowling? Maybe not so much.

Someone on another thread posted the recommended bow 'draw weights' (I think that was the term) for different sized men and women. A large woman would be recommended the same as a small, lighter, man iirc.
Gymnastics... massively different strength, flexibility, etc. I mean that of all sports is the one with the most completely different range of disciplines within it. Confused

HamsterV2 · 02/05/2021 13:50

Wroxie - Your trans panic has turned many of you into single issue voters who will support the very worst politicians based on their stance on trans issues

Trans panic? Umm I'm actually trans and think CJ is speaking sense on this issue, despite my opinions on what they're like as a person or their politics. Even a broken clock can tell the right time twice a day.
