At the beginning of the pandemic, Google Translate had obviously had few / no examples of "facemask" to train it. When I put news articles through Google Translate in order to quickly check whether there were changes in the rules, 98% of the references to facemasks came out as "sanitary towels" with the remaining 2% being called "mouthpieces" or "bandages." (and for some reason "hand sanitizer" was often translated as "handguns.") It led to some amusing articles!

In old fashioned English they used to be called "sanitary napkins" didn't they? At least those are a bit smaller... although I think that's also where we get the word for babies' nappies for.

I'll go & make dinner like a good housewife. I promise I won't even mention my idea for a companion glove to 'Wanky'. Mine was going to be called 'Spanky', for the more adventurous among us. But I won't mention it.

Is the idea that you wear the glove, then put the tampon, in the bloody glove, into your handbag to dispose of later? Because putting it in the bin might be embarrassing? Ffs.

On a related note, it has always bothered me that women were discouraged from putting tampons down the toilet because they "may end up in rivers or on beaches". This is surely not specific to tampons, and anything that goes down the loo ends up in the same place, yet somehow this is specifically a female problem with our nasty unhygienic tampons, but turds on the beach are just fine??

What a time to be alive.

Does anyone think this may be to do with the growth of gender neutral/mixed sex toilets? If women can be persuaded to use the Giant Pink Glove then (a) they can't complain that males will see blood on their hands as they go from cubicle to washbasin & (b) there's no need for sanitary bins because women can carry numerous bloody, gloved & sealed items of sanpro around with them all day. Yum.

Talk about making it our problem, instead of just giving us what we need. Our expense, too, as women will be buying GPGs instead of companies & councils providing sanitary bins.

I am going on Dragons Den next month with giant blue gloves for men who want to improve their masturbation hygiene. They can carry them around in their jeans when they are out and about as they are appealing and stylish.

My German is ropey but I believe they call sanitary towels "Damenbinde" which translates as "lady bandage" or "lady strip of material/band".

I don't know whether it's weirder to refer to it as sticking a bandage or a towel down there to be honest. I have a mental image of trying to cram a bath towel down my pants with "sanitary towels"...

How dare we have the intelligence to wrap a bit of toilet roll round the string (if it’s a particularly heavy day) and pull. And how dare our hands be three times smaller than the gloves. Don’t we all know men are much better at this kind of thing??

So is the idea they're big enough to double as a bag big enough for a towel (I assume that's what they mean by the weird euphemism 'bandage' .... ffs). But as PP have indicated, if you want a disposable bag then nappy bags or dog poo bags are cheap ... you could easily stick your hand in, remove item then invert, just like you do with a dogshit. Of course in reality it's usually easy enough to grab the edge or the string without ending up looking like Lady Macbeth. And if you do get a bit of blood on a hand... meh, women have seen it before and girls will, don't make out it's dirty or shameful.

The white line on the wrist of the glove looks like it might have a sticky seal- so you could pull the glove off your hand inside out, encasing the used tampon, and seal all it's female nastiness away!

Even before they get to the mistake of making the "Pinky" so impractically huge, there are several points they don't seem to be aware of.
*If someone did want to use gloves to change a tampon, the standard cheap nitrile ones (which fit!) could be rolled around a tampon to seal it perfectly easily. It's standard procedure when taking off a disposable apron after giving personal care to an infectious person.
*Pads come with their own wrappers to wrap the used pad in
*Nappy bags can be bought cheaply and come in convenient packs to keep handy in case you're somewhere without san bins
*Some inventor has already developed a special tampon disposal bag which can be easily opened with one hand, then sealed, and which can be bought in supermarkets

Is it just a prototype or are they actually selling these?

Reading the newsletter, I laughed out loud at the photo of the big pink glove with the tiny hand in it. And I hadn't even considered the point that they're so much more expensive than a box of vinyl gloves (which actually fit).
