Brilliant!

*I genuinely may never recover from 3 men deciding women needed pink gloves to remove their tampons (clearly never having bothered to speak to a woman in their entire lives) AND THEN MADE IT TOO BIG FOR PRETTY MUCH EVERY WOMAN’S HAND EVER.

I have default male peaked.*

@Notthissticky

Also, nice way to continue pushing the narrative that periods (and, by extension, women's bodies) are dirty.
Yes, it's almost like our hands need a permanent waterproof, washable coating. Would save faffing around with gloves. I wonder if there is a man who could invent human skin?

@Brefugee

Gender ideology is harmful to women and reinforces harmful sex stereotypes.

In this case they are reminding people who need them that their product is available. They use female (presenting? i don't know) models of all sizes on their materials. Inclusivity isn't the same thing as cancelling women every time.

I’m pretty sure a menstruating trans man doesn’t need reminding that they have periods and need sanitary protection for +/- 5 days out of every 28.

One should try to avoid being the cause of an influx of even more male masturbatory injuries to A&E, especially in this time of Covid.

Grin reminds me of the hornets nest episode in Greys Anatomy 🐝 😣

Ooh yikes! - I just looked it up.
toffeebutterpopcorn · 27/04/2021 20:44

Look you lot. I am a polar bear.

HandInGlove85 · 27/04/2021 20:40

I also can't conceive of the arrogance that it would take to pretend that I was not a woman, and then ask that everyone change the language that they use to refer to women's basic bodily functions to include my imagined identity.

Why on earth would a transman with gender dysphoria want everyone to remember that they have periods too?

HandInGlove85 · 27/04/2021 20:37

Not crap if it affects you (period pants are great for Trans men).
Also the German language is more complicated because it is gendered. So you have to get inventive to be inclusive. Someone else being kind won't hurt you

Gender ideology is harmful to women and reinforces harmful sex stereotypes. It is not a kindness. Only women have periods, and people who do not have periods because they were "born with male sex organs" are men.

Brefugee · 27/04/2021 15:47

Yeah although they buy into all the gender identity crap

Its not just you, and they have those seams running around the edge that are a strategic weak point. I've lost track of the number of times I've had to bleach my poor fingertips.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 27/04/2021 14:31

Is it just me or do the home hair dye products have HUGE clear plastic gloves that feel ...flappy ... too?

@Whatwouldscullydo

How does it help the bin issue Confused

Don't u just end up with the glove and the tampon in the bin?

I think their thinking was it was better wrapped so the smell didn't get out.

But yeah taking the bin out is still way easier.

ifIwerenotanandroid · 27/04/2021 00:32

This is certainly something to iron out before you apply to Dragon's Den, @Scepticaltank, & something I hadn't considered.

I was expecting the gentleman in question to place himself in a secure, comfortable & supportive position before, as Mulder once said to Scully, snapping on the latex; but customers are notoriously stupid in unpredictable ways & liable to blame the supplier for their own daft actions.

Scepticaltank · 26/04/2021 21:44

I do like those suggested modifications @ifIwerenotanandroid

I am slightly worried at the Health and Safety implications of Wanky customers using the product.

A hand securely attached to a member in the Wanky glove could result in injuries if the Wanky customer were to suffer a momentary loss of balance whilst making a deposit.

Liability disclaimers would be essential.

@Deliriumoftheendless

I guarantee you’d find one hanging in a tree next to a bag of dog shit.
Damn right you would, I'd be the first to do this and I'm menopausal so periods are hit or miss just now.
JoodyBlue · 26/04/2021 21:03

@Scepticaltank

I am going on Dragons Den next month with giant blue gloves for men who want to improve their masturbation hygiene. They can carry them around in their jeans when they are out and about as they are appealing and stylish.

I'm calling them Wanky.

@Scepticaltank - if there were a prize you should win it Cake. I read this, snorted, returned and guffawed, went away, came back, and I have tears in my eyes now. Fabulous, needed, thank you Flowers
toffeebutterpopcorn · 26/04/2021 19:54

I’ve just had a horrible thought about why the gloves are large and what tampons could be getting handled 🤢. It’s a niche market...

HandInGlove85 · 26/04/2021 19:52

Yeah although they buy into all the gender identity crap.

Why do you speak of women and what does the gender asterisk mean?

The gender asterisk includes all gender identities. Because not all who menstruate are women and not all women menstruate. That is why we deliberately do not only speak of women in the context of periods. Because not only women menstruate, but also, for example, trans men who were born with female sexual organs. In addition, not all women menstruate, for example trans women born with male sex organs. It is important to us that all people feel represented at ooia.

Thanks!

I don't speak German but good to know the options if I'm there

Skeptical could you design one for when they decide to piss in my garden after a drunken night out?

Yellow and called Winky.

They can take it home with them and pour it down the loo.

Brefugee · 26/04/2021 18:31

In the interviews the guys did they said they met in the army. Then at some point they lived in a house share with some women and didn't like that the bathroom bin might smell if the women were disposing of tampons in there. It was all described as "may" and "might" though.

And yes, sanitary towels here in Germany are "Damenbinden" - lady bandages Grin

Bergamotte · 26/04/2021 18:24

@InvisibleDragon

Wait, what??

Is the idea that you wear the glove, then put the tampon, in the bloody glove, into your handbag to dispose of later? Because putting it in the bin might be embarrassing? Ffs.

On a related note, it has always bothered me that women were discouraged from putting tampons down the toilet because they "may end up in rivers or on beaches". This is surely not specific to tampons, and anything that goes down the loo ends up in the same place, yet somehow this is specifically a female problem with our nasty unhygienic tampons, but turds on the beach are just fine??

I suppose it gives you the option of putting it in your handbag, or of putting it in the bin in a "dainty" non-smelly manner.

There are screens in the sewers which can be blocked by anything other than toilet paper. Things build up on the screen, then water can't flow through and the screen breaks, and then everything ends up on the beach. So pads, tampons, wet wipes, kitchen roll, cotton buds, condoms, sticking plasters, dental floss, and NAPPIES! They always have nappies as an example and my mind boggles at the thought of someone trying to flush a nappy down the toilet- wouldn't it just block your actual toilet?

There is also a separate issue where all the rainwater from the streets is channelled into the sewers, so in a big rainstorm the system doesn't have the capacity to cope and they just open overflow hatches and let the untreated sewage pour directly into the rivers. It's disgusting and they really need to sort the system out.

But yes, there really needs to be more education to everyone not to put anything other than bodily fluids (or poo) and actual toilet paper down the toilet, as there seem to be significant numbers of people (men included) who think a toilet can be used as a magical bin. Especially now that wet wipes are becoming more popular, and men's public toilets don't have even have sanitary bins to put them in.

Hang on... maybe there is a market for the Pinky! Sell them to men, to contain all their toilet-related waste when out and about!

Brefugee · 26/04/2021 18:24

tbh the idea isn't that bad since a lot of people use those scented disposable bags for tampons. These have a peel off strip so you can pull out the tampon then roll the glove off roll up the tampon in the glove and throw it away. But the whole thing is preposterous.
There were people saying "yeah, brilliant, so i can go for hikes etc" and all the time the rest of us were saying "i've been hiking for years and never needed this"

What was really irritating, and what the interview with the period pants company (they're called Ooia) showed is that women just don't get listened to even when they are experts. The Ooia women have set up other successful companies, had done a shit tonne of market research etc, but the Lions (the German equivalent of the Dragons Den is The Lions' Cave) dismissed them out of hand, only to later invest in a badly thought out company set up by two ex-soldiers with no experience.

Glad to say German twitter was all over it. And although the personal attacks were awful and not necessary, at least they have stopped selling them.
