Help me write to school about this LGBT+inclusion homework

I've just been checking through my year 7 daughter's homework and found this survey. It's optional. I am really passed off about it as the possible answers are not even correct in some cases. Dd had to ask Alexa the answers so god knows what ages answered but essentially she didn't understand what she was being asked. She's very scientific minded and as GC as a 12 year old can be I think. Her 14 year old sister doesn't get it either. I'm not sure I can attach all the screenshots so might have to put them in a collage.

Safe Schools Alliance has produced a useful complaints guide, which you can find here: safeschoolsallianceuk.net/?smd_process_download=1&download_id=3087

PumpkinSpiceWoman · 25/04/2021 19:53

@Tibtom

10. Socially constructed roles.
Oh dear, you got that wrong!
9toenails · 25/04/2021 19:25

OED (Oxford English Dictionary) is your friend for most of these, see OED (Sign in free with your normal library card.)

So, for instance,
What does the term asexual mean?
-- Ans: (Other): 1. Biology. Lacking sexual organs or function. ... Also of reproduction: occurring without the fusion of male and female gametes, e.g. by fission, budding, or parthenogenesis; produced by such a process.

I suppose this (main, primary) definition could then be discussed by teacher and pupils with relation to other more, um, outré definitions or explanations.

But alternatively perhaps a parent might simply ask the school in question to stop being so silly, develop some common sense and get back to educating children.

Fieldoftheclothofgold · 25/04/2021 18:41

That looks to me like some woke teacher knocked it together on survey monkey.

Aprilfoolaround · 25/04/2021 18:40

I've filled it in and made my views very clear especially on intersex being conflated and the whole teaching of ideology as fact. Sadly there wasn't a free text box to add anything else but I will be contacting the school about the complete lack of anything to do with the L or G. Seems a bit homophobic to me or that they are insinuating that homosexuality is not worth discussing or somehow unimportant.

Don’t let her answer the questionnaire. Her opinions on these things are political - the school has no right to demand her to make political statements, even anonymously.

AllThatisSolid · 25/04/2021 14:32

they are all either male or female though it may take additional testing to determine this.

I think we need to keep on repeating this about people with DSD. Their situations are too often used wrongly or in a cavalier way.

TalkingtoLangClegintheDark · 25/04/2021 12:35

@ValancyRedfern

Even non 'Stonewalled' schools are teaching gender ideology as fact. I have to teach a lesson on it in a few weeks. Am gearing myself up to challenge it....
Wishing you all the luck with this Valancy 💪💪💪
CovoidOfAllHumanity · 25/04/2021 12:00

It also says parents can fill it in....

This does look to be preparatory for a full on re-education programme so definitely reiterate that you don't consent to your child being indoctrinated

CovoidOfAllHumanity · 25/04/2021 11:56

If she is going to fill it in (and you did say it's voluntary) then at least she shouldn't be googling or asking Alexa the answers. There's 'I don't know' options so just choose those

It being presented as 'homework' seems to have made her think she needs to find the 'right' answers but it reads as an opinion survey so she should be free to put her real opinion or 'I don't know'

Or 'spoil the ballot paper' somehow eg tick other on everything and write 'why am I being asked to do this?'

Ithinkyoucan · 25/04/2021 11:52

This is a political and ideological stance being disguised as 'education'.
You should challenge it on these grounds. Pan sexual only exists if you believe in the modern notion of gender identity. Ditto non-binary. Its fine to teach them as something people believe, and their (recent) history, just as one would with any other secular or religious belief system. But they are not facts, they are not real variants in the wonderful world of human identity which we can see recorded throughout history and culture, as we can with homosexuality or men presenting/dressing as women. They are modern social constructions. Not newly discovered variants in the foundation of the human condition.

Also - they confuse gender and sex. This, and its implications, not least for clear communication, needs to be pointed out.

PermanentTemporary · 25/04/2021 11:50

I think if your dd doesn't know, advise her to tick 'i don't know' or leave it blank. Encourage her to be honest.

Then I would go to the school and ask what the hell the end goal is with this task.

R0wantrees · 25/04/2021 11:47

Could you give them the benefit of the doubt, and a chance to explain, before seeking to put them right?

It needs challenging quickly.
These are year 7 pupils (children age 11-12), not sixth formers.

VoluminousVagina · 25/04/2021 11:45

It is a serious concern that your dd has been called transphobic for stating that people can’t change sex - please tell me a teacher didn’t say that to her?

Silvergreen · 25/04/2021 11:43

I'm a lesbian and I'm not even sure if I should tick yes to being a member of the LGBT community anymore. 🙄

Warmduscher · 25/04/2021 11:43

If they’re trying to gauge the level of knowledge and understanding in the school they’d do well to start with whoever designed the questions.

AdaFuckingShelby · 25/04/2021 11:40

I'm also wondering why intersex is in a questionnaire about sexuality. Its not a sexuality and neither is trans.

Silvergreen · 25/04/2021 11:40

Where's the L and G? LGBT is being completely colonised by gender issues. Even typing LGBT on my phone brings up the pink and blue trans flag first. It's just so weird.

WarriorN · 25/04/2021 11:39

Also, pshe stuff like this is usually handed over to the younger teachers to run.

WarriorN · 25/04/2021 11:38

I've done quality marks for other things and the first step is an audit.

WarriorN · 25/04/2021 11:37

Schools usually have to apply and go through a school audit, identify areas to work on and then follow a plan for a year or so or demonstrate how you meet certain "standards" to get a quality mark, which stonewall provides I believe. As do others eg the proud trust.

So it could be the first step and wouldn't yet be on "the list."

Eg to be a Rights Respecting School for UNICEF, you have to demonstrate it in various areas, evidence and fill in a load of forms before you can get your stamp and be on the list.

andyoldlabour · 25/04/2021 11:33

I shudder to think that an educational establishment formulated those questions and possible answers. The conflation of sex, gender and sexuality is alarming.

ValancyRedfern · 25/04/2021 11:08

morningtoncrescent62 · 25/04/2021 11:07

I'd try to find out what the school intends to do with the answers. It's a long shot, but just possible that they're 'openers' which will be used to prompt discussion of common misunderstandings. That's something I'd like to see schools doing, in an age-appropriate way, of course - because kids are exposed to all this language, and it's important that schools help them to understand it critically. It's a long time since my DDs were that age so I might have lost track of what's appropriate for early secondary children, though, and sadly I think it's unlikely that's what the school is doing. Could you give them the benefit of the doubt, and a chance to explain, before seeking to put them right?

R0wantrees · 25/04/2021 11:06

The question about intersex (DSD) conditions is particularly concerning as this demonstrates the common appropriation and misrepresentation by trans rights' activists.

People with DSDs are all female or male sex and these conditions have nothing to do with gender/gender identity.
Furthermore the specific and disparate conditions forced together often have little in common.
Teachers should not be involved in the spreading of false information to year 7 pupils.
