The Times and gender critical comments.

I think it's a new algorithm. I had difficulty getting a robust comment accepted in relation to a particularly odious separatist MSP. My comment had nothing to do with trans issues.

So the key is to make lots of polite, friendly and witty comments about other things to put up your ratings so that maybe you can get away with not being "kind" occasionally .

Though surely you'll just end up with insipid middle of the road views.

We actively incentivize and nudge users to be positive contributors. The more civil they are, the larger their reach and influence — creating a virtuous cycle of positive engagement.

1 That's definitely worked on Twitter and YT. It's civil, polite, evidence-based people who have extensive networks they've influenced.

Ahh, now that is interesting. If that lot is being used for The Times I can't see me wanting to be jumping through those hoops.

However, thinking about this positively, The Times is still unique in the mainstream media in actively shedding light on the gender identity ideology.

Are the likes still disappearing? Anyone found out why?

I remember reading a while ago - can't remember if it was here or on Twitter - that some kind of editorial changes were going on. There wasn't much sign of anything happening at the time but it sounds like they might be starting to bite?

I haven't seen a Jo March comment for weeks (although I only read comments linked to on here with a share token) but she's been notable by her absence

What about women who find men appropriating their names and spaces inappropriate? Or women who find being silenced when they try to talk about their lived experience inappropriate?

Or is it only a problem if it offends men.

I think anyone with an axe to grind will make a bee-line for that sort of job, as with the recent Reddit revelations, and especially Twitter, most obviously in the case of J. K. Rowling and the Mysteriously Disappearing Likes.

I think when an article is 'hot' comments do tend to get held in a queue.

I've had comments relating to other issues held for moderation purposes recently, so it is not just this issue. However, it has also been suggested to me I re-phrase my comment and try again.

i guess that lots of eyes are now scanning all comment sections for the purposes of reporting. Moderation in the Times has always tended to be report led; but then most times readers have tended to been pretty tolerant in not over-reporting posts.

I wondered if it was a trigger happy recruit. I haven't commented recently but the moderation can vary widely.

Actually I should have asked when the moderating team was changed as it's been a notable change in the last 4 weeks or so.

I don't comment that often but I have seen other comments that show how comments are being moderated and I've seen similar points made on MN about surrogacy articles.

I do wonder how it compares to say comment moderation on the Daily Mail.

Mine's pending approval. Have they changed their software because I don't think you used to get that notice about pending approval before. The appearance of the comments section has changed.

I have been in contact with the feedback team about a complaint and I was told that recently their comments moderating team has been changed. I said it was important that their choice of moderator didn't lose them subscribers/readers and the person I spoke to agreed and said it was important feedback.

I did ask for my call notes to go on record and I would recommend emailing [email protected] to make these problems known.

I called this number and got various emails addresses to follow up on my complaint.

It's possible that decisions makers haven't seen the impact of this recent change or realised how the comments sections are being managed now.

I imagine that it's only when it hits them in the pocket that they would really take notice so perhaps worth noting if you have the time and inclination.

I admit for a fondness for the days when Gillian McKeith blamed things on the" Spanish work experience kid."

When McKeith was first caught out on the ridiculous and erroneous claims of her CV - she claimed, for example, to have a PhD from the reputable American College of Nutrition - her representatives suggested that this was a mistake, made by a Spanish work experience kid, who posted the wrong CV. Except the very same claim about the American College of Nutrition was also in one of her books from several years previously. That's a long work experience stint.

This member of the 'community' finds this all extremely disappointing. The 'community' includes many who have subscribed as a result direct of the excellent reporting and commentary by journalists such as Janice Turner, Lucy Bannerman and Andrew Gilligan.

Something has definitely changed with moderation of TOL comments....but like on this site, there are always ways of phrasing things....

I had a comment removed querying why body dysphoria for gender and other forms of body image (such as anorexia) are treated so differently, which was disappointing. It really made me think whether the affirmation could possibly be right when I thought of it in that light. But the comment got censored. 😡

I've never seen the like BeanieSue. I think he was on some sort of mission to prevent the readership from turning to the dark side by going with an interpretation based on literal wording instead of his convoluted and contradictory interpretation involving ignoring problematic words and referring to other documents not originally referenced.

Whatever he was doing, it wasn't him being a journalist.
