Anyone fancy co-parenting with LOJ?

Owen Jones wants a baby, and would like a lesbian couple to impregnate. Any takers on mumsnet? He could be quite a catch for someone looking for a sperm donor and a co-parent to raise a well balanced child.
He got a bit of flack, so is doubling down on the the "anti-trans cult" and calling everyone homophobic.

Anyone fancy co-parenting with LOJ?

@Quaagars

Has he ever said he thinks trans women can have babies? Or is this another one of them straw man arguments? I'm a straight, married woman with kids. I can accept that people who are gay are lesbian might want to have children of their own, it might not necessarily mean they are in their everyday lives. It's called seeing outside of your box
You are spectacularly missing the point. No one is saying gay and lesbians don't want to have children.

It's about Jones' choice of words. People who can become pregnant are cis women, whether gay or straight, or trans men, whether gay or straight.

I know some of you object to the word "cis" but it's necessary in this context to show that Jones' go to choice of "lesbians" is transphobic by his own measure.

NiceGerbil · 04/04/2021 02:23

A lot of people on his Twitter seem to think he's talking about surrogacy rather than co-parenting.

My guess would be that he would like to have a child but not be a full time parent.

Quaagars · 04/04/2021 02:19

Quaagars he has said an awful lot that

Twaw Lesbians can have penises That sort of thing

OK
but why does that automatically mean because he can accept trans women are women etc he doesn't know that only biological women bear babies?

NiceGerbil · 04/04/2021 02:14

Quaagars he has said an awful lot that

Twaw
Lesbians can have penises
That sort of thing

So if he's thinking about a baby then surely he should be using language like, fertile uterus owner or similar

How can people with penises be lesbians on the one hand, but also assumed to have uteruses on the other?

Can you genuinely not see the contradiction there?

GreyhoundG1rl · 04/04/2021 01:42

What does this mean?

This is a man who makes money off click shite sensationalism and being 'controversial'.

Framing sexism as progressive isnt seeing things outside the box. Its very much within the box but with trendy labels.

HTH.

RedToothBrush · 04/04/2021 01:29

Why a lesbian couple?

Insecure about a presence of another man if heterosexual couple?
Some ideas about how single women are somehow inferior as parents?
Doesn't want a single person because future partners can't be vetted? (is he in a long-term relationship?)
Idea that lesbians can't survive without men to 'provide for their needs'?
Cos its trendier to say LGBT and he is playing to the audience?
To create the illusion that its altruistic as a gay man to 'give' children to lesbians?

Dunno.

Quaagars · 04/04/2021 01:23

Oh and why say lil OJ
Smacks of smug patronising bollocks
Kind of puts a bias on things before anyone even says anything.

Why a couple? I know as a doctor he knows that it does take two to tango... but it’s one of either sex, silly boy...
Why a lesbian couple? Why not one of the myriad women on here who wants a child and is aging, of any sexuality.

It does rather smack of winding lesbians up. Which does imply the people replying to him aren't the bigots. But maybe it's plain old sexism, 'women do the work of parenting'.

Doesn't want to do the leg work of raising a child, but thinks its a two person job really.

Just wants to play at Disney Dad minus the responsibility?

A pure vanity spaf?

@Clymene

Lil OJ is a shit stirring misogynist. He thinks it's funny winding women up.

He's really getting a bit old for this schtick. I'm starting to feel embarrassed for him because he's coming across as really try hard.

He's paid to do it. Its his livelihood.

The Guardian pay him to write about how to be an egotistical sexist creep. They sell newspapers and make money themselves off the bad of him being an egotistical sexist creep. They don't think he's a problem to their reputation. Nor do they think its bad for him hold grudges and behave in a what sounds like a 'remarkably unprofessional' manner.

Did I mention how the Guardian makes money selling sexism enough?

RedToothBrush · 04/04/2021 00:33

As such surely LOJ would either have friends in mind who he thinks might be interested and he'd presumably approach them about it in a sensitive way. Unless they asked him of course.

Two assumptions there:

  1. He has lesbian friends
  2. If he has, that he hasn't already asked them. Only for them to laugh and go 'erm, no thanks'.

Announcing that you're hunting for lesbians on Twitter is just fucking weird.

Not really. Not if you are an attention seeking journalist who gets paid on the basis of writing click bait opinion pieces which deliberately are about sensationalism rather than reflecting in a measured way about reality.

More to the point, its not weird if you've pissed off all the homosexual women out there by say they are bigotted by refusing to buy into the abuse of 'TWAW' in the lesbian community (but noticably you also go mute when asked if you'd have a relationship with a transman).

Its not weird if you constantly act like a sexist creep who only values women on the basis of whether they will carry your offspring for you.

I just go, give me strength. Its so fucking 'progressive' isn't it? How many clicks is he after today?

How is this better than any of the shit Nigel Farage has come out with? How is it less offensive?

Ah yes. A reminder this is 2021. Because shitting over women is politically acceptable and Ok. Making a career out of it somehow earns you a job with your own column in a mass media publication.

NiceGerbil · 04/04/2021 00:00

I find the responses so interesting.

When it's pointed out that he's adamant TWAW and so it's odd he suddenly knows lesbians are homosexual females.

The answer from a lot of people is TWAW so obviously can't carry babies.

Why didn't he say uterus havers or menstruators? That's what we're told over and over to say.

I think this is a real problem.

I have been uncomfy with this for years because it's all just illogical.

But I've just realised that the fact it's illogical is of no interest.

Like all the orgs and news outlets that use menstruators in some situations and women in others and they mean sex.

So the idea is that these words are all fluid and you can use the same one to mean different things and the reader should understand which meaning it is from the context.

And it seems a lot of people think this is obvious and fine Confused

I think he just fancied a ruck didn't he?

He knows what the response was to the PN bloke and has just said the same really.

aliasundercover · 03/04/2021 23:47

Owen has managed to cast himself as the victim again. He's happy now.

NiceGerbil · 03/04/2021 23:23

The pink news guy did this exact same thing didn't he? TWAW but suddenly knows it's female women he needs when he wants a baby. And when this contradiction was pointed out he said it was homophobia.

As for the rest...

Co parenting a child is a massive deal. I think it goes without saying that everyone involved needs to know each other really well, trust each other etc.

As such surely LOJ would either have friends in mind who he thinks might be interested and he'd presumably approach them about it in a sensitive way. Unless they asked him of course.

Or, he doesn't in which case there's not a lot to be done.

Announcing that you're hunting for lesbians on Twitter is just fucking weird.

RedToothBrush · 03/04/2021 23:04

So NOW he knows what a lesbian couple is?

Funny that.

SpaceBatAngelDragon · 03/04/2021 22:10

Surely a transman whose sexuality is gay should be his preferred choice? And the only choice for someone wishing to support trans rights, and the reproductive rights of trans men specifically. No need for a co-parenting situation, they could be an actual couple. Why is he excluding trans men?
