This just came up as an ad on my FB feed. I’m new to the feminism boards but have been following with interest. Thoughts?

At the very very best, it's better than "menstruators" as it at least specifies a time frame - I'd be able to accurately answer that, rather than "are you a menstruator".

That's all I can say, really.

Oh for crying out bloody loud Angry

@ThomasPenman

Hang on. Is this just a survey about the effect of the pandemic on women? Not actually about periods at all?
It’s about the impact of the pandemic on periods.

The covering bit on the Oxford BioAnth Facebook page says:

"Please take part in this important research! Members of Oxford BioAnth have launched the first large scale study on the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on women's* health.

The survey is open to ANYONE that has had a period at some stage in their life.

*We recognise that not all women menstruate, and not all who menstruate are women"

It is a general study on women's health in the pandemic (not just periods). You can't participate unless you expressly identify as a menstruating person. I did the survey because I wanted to see what it contained. I commented at the end that I found it offensive to be required to identify as a menstruating person. I also responded to the gender question stating that I had no gender (the options were "woman", "man", "non-binary" and "other (please state)").

That graphic looks like a particularly nasty fungal infection!
I have no gender identity and I'm feeling very excluded by questionnaires that don't have an option to tick 'none' and have started writing that in the comments box, and correcting people conflating sex & gender.

I'm just laughing at the attempt to gender a uterus by filling it with flowers.

I don't know about anyone else but I feel like it's full of bitey snakes once a month.
Reminds me of the awful, 'Have you flowered yet?'

CheeryTreeBlossom · 31/03/2021 17:00

I had this advert on Instagram and the caption said it was about women in the pandemic.
Then someone whined in the comments about not all women have periods and vice versa, then they added "don't worry we ask about your gender identity in this" Confused
Clearly they only want to know the impact on biological women as the ones most likely affected by childcare etc (as stats have shown) but can't figure out the woke way of just saying that.

So instead we are menstruators.

loveyouradvice · 31/03/2021 16:45

Interesting ... I suggest

  1. Study and questionnaire designed by researcher who knows what a woman is
  1. Facebook ad and publicising it designed by young woke junior who wasn't concerned about reaching those for whom English is a second language
MrsAvocet · 31/03/2021 16:44

This came up on my Facebook too and I made the mistake of reading the comments. Half of them praising the "inclusive language" and most of the rest complaining about the term woman being used in the title, because "not everyone who has periods is a woman". 🙄

Biscuitsanddoombar · 31/03/2021 16:35

🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

TomHardyAndMe · 31/03/2021 16:30

And the study has “women” in the title!

Biscuitsanddoombar · 31/03/2021 16:28

Baffling they use the term person who menstruates then - I mean why?

TomHardyAndMe · 31/03/2021 16:27

And no mention of trans here either.

I did the survey yesterday - references to women all over it.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 31/03/2021 16:21

English not their first language is it? Sorry but I don’t speak ‘woke’.

Biscuitsanddoombar · 31/03/2021 16:20

🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

Ifyourefeelingsinister · 31/03/2021 16:20

Fuck that.
