@LurkyMcLurkLurk

Even money that comments about how dangerous Brazil would be for this person are the start of a campaign to fight deportation.
That and the comments about how well they have behaved in prison and how they are a suitable candidate for rehab and support programmes.

The judge seems to be ignoring the fact that they went to Ireland in the first place because it was seen to be a more lucrative place to continue their sex work, and that much of the material was “unique” , ie not seen before by police , which makes me shudder. This is someone whose actions are deliberate and considered.

Saoirse is very impressive. It takes amazing strength to stand up as she did to NUIGSU.

miri1985 · 01/04/2021 02:28

Two really interesting interviews with Saoirse Connolly, so impressed at her. Its a rare person to be so brave and eloquent, even more impressive that shes still only a student.

Good work janeyso

It was the 'Sun'. However that's not important, it was interesting to read. I can't quite get my head around why people do things like that, it's horrendous!

It's good that she isn't in a women's prison.

XXSex · 30/03/2021 10:32

I understand that the paedophile who raped his small step son got a GRC after being arrested for the crime.
Bruna could apply for one now and be transferred.

@miri1985

The Mirror has a much more indepth article and according to them DeSouza is being kept in the Midlands prison which is males only.

archive.is/HaPHd#selection-1695.28-1695.43

"Once contacted by clients, she asked them if they had an “interest” in children.
When some of the punters told her they also liked children, the sicko lied that she “had access” to many of the kids featured in the images and videos.
She also sent images and videos - featuring children between the ages of two and sixteen - even when her customers said they had no interest in them."

That's interesting that DeSouza is in the Midlands prison. Presumably, DeSouza doesn't have a GRC and is legally a man. I wonder if it is possible to apply from prison? It's good news for the women in Limerick prison anyway.

To the Editor,

The article by Fiona Ferguson published on your website

www.google.com/amp/s/www.thejournal.ie/woman-jailed-criminal-court-5392090-Mar2021/%3famp=1

on Thursday 25 March is in breach of the Code of Practice set out by the Press Council of Ireland.

The headline states:
“Woman jailed after being found with thousands of ‘depraved’ child abuse images”.
The article continues to refer to the perpetrator as a woman and uses the pronouns she and her throughout.
Not until the 20th paragraph does the journalist clarify that “she” is a “transgender woman”.

A transgender woman is biologically male and is not a woman. The headline and majority of the article therefore constitute “a significant inaccuracy, misleading statement or distorted report or picture” - Principle 1.2 of the Code.

Biological sex is highly relevant when reporting sexual or violent crimes because these are typical of male-pattern criminality, and statistically almost never perpetrated by female people.

When journalists refer to a male person carrying out a typically male act of sexual offending as if it were perpetrated by a female person, it distorts the wider ongoing conversation around male sexual offending which has wider consequences and is not in the public interest.

It is necessary, as per Principle 1.3 of the Code, that you publish a retraction and clarification promptly and with due prominence.

Yours etc.

That's great Janeyso. It will be interesting to see the response you get.
WiseOwlOne · 29/03/2021 22:49

omg, buried in there right at the bottom of the article. It's not a woman.
I saw this article the other day and skim read the first few lines and thought omg, a woman, I can't read on.

GNCQ · 28/03/2021 23:06

Well it should be reported by another outlet that isn't so completely anti-women using the right descriptors for this utterly inhumane person.

Sunhoop · 28/03/2021 20:15

Why don't they use transwoman in the title or is it click bait for the more extreme notion that a female committed these crimes?

The journal is Ireland's most "woke" news site. They will have been protecting their agenda by obscuring the fact that this was a biological man.

They have a transwoman columnist. She is one of the well known TRA's here.

3timeslucky · 28/03/2021 17:38

It is so out of kilter with female pattern criminality/convictions. Where are the alarm bells????

XXSex · 28/03/2021 17:27

Does anyone know if there are others in prison for different types of offences?

I think that the child rapist was the first one circa mid 2019. It was a parliamentary question and reported in the Law Society Gazette. I didn’t see anything prior to this case. So it’s basically 4 in a very short period and all for violence and/or sexual offences.

WhiskyIrnBru · 28/03/2021 15:37

@Wishingwell75

What a weird article in the sense that it seems at pains to explain this things vile behaviour. Plenty of people have addiction issues without the compulsion to play a part in the abuse of children. How can she be described as a good person is beyond me. I also think it's despicable to use the term child pornography, it suggests consent and I think it's used to try and normalise it. It's the abuse of children and should be called as such.

Nail on the head.

justanotherneighinparadise · 28/03/2021 15:26

I refuse to believe it as it never happens. This individual surely doesn’t exist and is merely a figment of our collective imaginations

3timeslucky · 28/03/2021 15:07

@miri1985

The rehabilitation program that is mentioned in that article is only available in Arbour Hill which is for male sex offenders (www.irishprisons.ie/prisoner-services/treatment-of-sex-offenders/). I would assume this person doesn't have a GRC and is still legally male so hopefully they are in a male prison.
They surely wouldn't report that it was a woman if there was no GRC? The fact that they're reported as a woman suggests to me that they have some legal right to claim and would be able to access a woman's prison. I would love to be wrong. This is so fucked up.

How many transwomen are in Irish prisons who have not been convicted of either violent, sexual or violent and sexual crimes? Recently there have been 4 reported incarcerations of transwomen, all for crimes in those categories. Does anyone know if there are others in prison for different types of offences?

FemaleAndLearning · 27/03/2021 22:12

A nice person! The images were of 2 to 16 year olds bring penetrated or showing their genitals.

I agree with pp that if you don't get to the end of the article you wouldn't know this is a male. Why don't they use transwoman in the title or is it click bait for the more extreme notion that a female committed these crimes?

irishfeminist · 27/03/2021 20:02

ismiseere there are very very few female murderers. The vast majority of women are in for nonviolent offences and are themselves more likely to be vulnerable than the general female population.

miri1985 · 26/03/2021 19:34

@ismiseeire

I'd say Arbour Hill (is it mixed?) will be considered too dangerous for her if she's put in with men, given that she's trans. Mind you, she could go into Mountjoy with all the female murderers I suppose.
Arbour Hill (male only) is seen as the most cushy and least dangerous of the male prisons in Ireland www.irishmirror.ie/news/irish-news/crime/notorious-irish-inmates-up-arms-12234557 Not sure how it would compare to the female wings of prisons.

They should deport her soon as, never mind keeping her in our prisons
