The consultation, which is open to feedback from anyone, is designed to gather the views of members, the wider cycling community, staff, volunteers, and external partners, along with identified groups including but not limited to: Stonewall, Gendered Intelligence, Mermaids, Fair Play For Women, Women in Sport and the Women’s Sport Trust.

Does anyone know what the other two women's groups think about this issue? Ive got a feeling I've seen that one at least has gone twaw but I'm not sure. If ppl are involved or members of those groups it would be good to lobby in that direcrion too.

StandWithYou · 25/03/2021 17:35

Completed it.

Has anyone got a link to those graphics which summarise male vs female physical advantage in sport? Muscle mass, limb length, pelvis, heamaglobin etc?

Survey link is here. You will need to read the policy before competing but please do fill it in. Thank you!

Quadzilla · 25/03/2021 17:10

If you look at the news piece it says Fair Play for Women are one of the consultees. I’ve had a quick look at the consultation form, I’m not sure you have to be a member to fill it in. I’m sure Stonewall will be sending it to their mailing list.

Leafstamp · 25/03/2021 17:09

@FemaleAndLearning

Well that's not great for young women and girls trying to compete in cycling.

How do we become members so we can complete the consultation?

I wonder if Fair Play for Women will pick this up?

No need to be a member:

We are consulting widely in a large-scale representative survey. Members, non-members, staff, volunteers, external partners and identified groups, including but not limited to, Stonewall, Gendered Intelligence, Mermaids, Fair Play For Women, Women in Sport and the Women’s Sport Trust.

Get completing!

Kit I think he was in charge of a RU club rather than the RFU

Kit19 · 25/03/2021 16:56

@AnneListersHat

IT'S AN ACTUAL CONSULTATION OF MEMBERS!

The new CEO is from Rugby Union so perhaps he's listening to us (finally).

was he CEO at the RFU when they decided that despite what World Rugby said about male people not playing on female teams, they would ignore that?
Kit19 · 25/03/2021 16:55

@andyoldlabour

From their policy

"A sport is a gender-affected sport if the physical strength, stamina or physique of average persons of one gender would put them at a disadvantage to average persons ofthe other gender as competitors in events involving the sport."

By allowing transgirls/transwomen to compete against women, would definitely put all the women at a disadvantage.
Elite sport is not about "average" persons.

gender smender

they mean sex

gah it's just such BS

The Facebook post I saw it on talked about the consultation but only had the link to the policy. I did not have time to search for the consultation so thank you for the link. There was a comment on the Facebook post pointing out that they won't get many people completing the consultation if they don't have the link to the actual consultation, the cynic in me wonders if that is the aim!

I remember you posting about this Quadzilla and British Cycling's response to you

Sport's bodies are going to lose volunteers over this. It's all very well pontificating about this from on high but at the grassroots level, the hassle this will cause especially amongst youth sports will be a nightmare.

The sports club I used to chair had 2 changing rooms, male and female and both were completely open plan, no cubicles because like many sports pavilions it was built years ago. I dont know how we would have accommodated people who are clearly male but identify as female and want to use the female changing rooms

Manderleyagain · 25/03/2021 16:51

Is this a consultation? Or is it that the policy has been published and is final?

Quadzilla · 25/03/2021 16:48

OP did you to post this instead? www.britishcycling.org.uk/about/article/20210325-about-bc-news-British-Cycling-launches-consultation-on-Transgender-participation-policy-0

Now this is news!! Actual consultation

OhHolyJesus · 25/03/2021 16:45

Has anyone told Martina?

MermaidUnicorn · 25/03/2021 16:40

Genuine question - which race does the non binary person enter? Surely there has to be a special category created.

Quadzilla · 25/03/2021 16:39

*strongly

Quadzilla · 25/03/2021 16:39

I feels very straingly that trans and NB people should be welcomed and encouraged into our sport but women and girls right to compete against their own sex should be upheld.

Although that said, it's not just competitive cycling that is affected by this policy. British Cycling's initiative to encourage more women to cycle recreationally (called Breeze) is advertised as women only. In reality it is now a mixed sex initiative. How they can say women need women only rides to encourage them to cycle then make them mixed sex, I've no idea.

Kit19 · 25/03/2021 16:28

yep! ditto there's a reason I didnt mention who Pippa was formerly known as

Most people would be fine with the vast majority of things on that list except this
Support the Transgender or Non-Binary Participant with their choice of changing facilities

everyone on that group is equally culpable for deciding that women and girls rights to single sex changing isnt important

There's a reason that Philippa was able to "compete at the highest level in Europe for nearly 16 years", but I probably can't mention what it is.

MermaidUnicorn · 25/03/2021 16:23

Pippa York is a former Tour de France rider who transitioned.
