Ugh. How is it doxxing to mention mainstream media articles about a political figure?

WarriorN · 25/03/2021 12:39

Good grief, fair lot to catch up on over lunch... 🧐

Empressofthemundane · 25/03/2021 12:37

There seems to be a raft of individuals with what seem to be personality disorders who are trading on something like a diversity designation, in unexpectedly influential positions.

This ^^

Did AC used to work for Twitter?

nauticant · 25/03/2021 12:34

First go: hold the line, talking about AC is transphobic harassment.

Second go: we have dealt with this, AC has a background which wasn't problematic but then became problematic over the past few days.

Will we get the third go? The one where the actual problem is addressed?

Third go: we have just become aware there's a systematic problem with abusive people behind the scenes at Reddit, who are closely networked, and will be vetting those who have influence and power.

Kit19 · 25/03/2021 12:31

I mean when Im going to work with anyone, the first thing I do is google them

Kit19 · 25/03/2021 12:30

"we did not adequately vet her background"

bit worrying that no one at Reddit seems to know how to use google....

uglyswan · 25/03/2021 12:27

Update: AC has been fired

A couple of choice quotes:

"We did not adequately vet her background before formally hiring her."
Amazing, considering that AC used to mod a whole load of teen subreddits

"On March 9th, we added extra protections for this employee, including actioning content that mentioned the employee’s name or shared personal information on third-party sites, which we reserve for serious cases of harassment and doxxing."

So, despite the lack of vetting, Reddit clearly knew about the Challenor story for weeks and did nothing about it until it hit the mainstream press and dozens of subreddits began to protest.

SmokedDuck · 25/03/2021 11:55

AC isn't the first instance of this kind of thing. There seems to be a raft of individuals with what seem to be personality disorders who are trading on something like a diversity designation, in unexpectedly influential positions.

The way I am picturing this the people at Reddit just didn't know anything about the British political scene, and saw "ran for deputy leader of major party" on the CV, and thought, this must be a happening young person.

CatsHairEverywhere · 25/03/2021 11:38

No, they want this one - and a few others with poor oratory skills, the charisma of a potato and the morals of a sewer rat (are Lily and Brad still around btw?).
Very odd.

It does make you wonder about the morals and interests of the people that put them in those positions. Perhaps Reddit and the likes have more of a connection with those that have questionable morals than they do with those that don’t. It’s awfully hard to work with someone you simply don’t agree with, unfortunately they don’t seem to agree with anyone with intelligence or good morals.

picklemewalnuts · 25/03/2021 11:36

This stinks. I mean. Really, how is this happening?

I was pleased my DS had heard of this and brought it up, but he had no idea of AC's name or trans status. So reading about it on Reddit and elsewhere left him unaware of the breadth and severity of the safeguarding concerns.

SunsetBeetch · 25/03/2021 11:35

Great reaction from Lib Dem LGBT to questions about AC.

@happydappy2

Does Edward Lord have links to Aimee? I think they are connected to Stonewall & it was his doing that made the Hampstead Heath ponds mixed sex. Remember also the useless consultation on mixed sex loos for within the City. They are none binary whilst enjoying all the perks of clearly being a man...

Well, Edward Lord once called Professor Ken Plummer - a member of the Paedophile Information Exchange - a hero.

Edward Lord is also married to NB Meg John Barker who wrote the famously racist and roundly discredited guidance for BCAP about "gender".

Edward Lord is also a member of the sexist organisation the Freemasons. Curiously there is a big link between the members of the City of London committees and the Freemasons.

CardinalLolzy · 25/03/2021 10:55

I don't think Reddit need to look far to employ actually decent trans people.

ErrolTheDragon · 25/03/2021 10:55

I'm hoping that the times brief report is the 'breaking news' preamble to a proper investigation. There are strings needing to be pulled hard on. Meanwhile, the comments clarify a few salient points.

Tanith · 25/03/2021 10:49

"Is it "ooh, we need a trans person for diversity's sake, let's hire the first one that comes along"? "

If that's all they're looking for, why don't they hire Miranda Yardley, Debbie Hayton, Katrina Harrison, Rose of Dawn, Fionne Orlander....
Or why not India Willoughby who sympathises with the trans position, but isn't full on fanatical TRA? Why not Eddie Izzard?

No, they want this one - and a few others with poor oratory skills, the charisma of a potato and the morals of a sewer rat (are Lily and Brad still around btw?).
Very odd.

@zzizzer

The 'pronouns are rohypnol' idea really comes into play here too doesn't it.

'She defended and hired her paedophile father' might make you think, "what a tool, how could someone defend that behaviour? Is she mad?"

'He defended and hired his paedophile father' is more likely to make you think, "like father like son".

Exactly. Knowing what we know about abusive fathers and their daughter' from reading this article one could be forgiven for feeling sympathy for a young woman who was afraid of her father and was obliged or conned into hire him for her campaign. No mention that AC was in the house at the time and knew all about the court case and conviction and from pps screenshot the mum knew as well and called the 10 year old rape victim a slut.

from The Times article:

Reddit has been accused of censorship after a user who posted an article from The Spectator was suspended from using the platform.

The article posted on the social platform’s politics forum mentioned Aimee Challenor, a former Green Party spokeswoman who now works for Reddit. She was suspended from the party after it emerged that her father was running her campaign to become deputy leader 18 months after he was charged with raping a child. He was jailed for 22 years after being convicted.

Challenor joined the Liberal Democrats but was suspended after child sex fantasies were posted on a friend’s Twitter account. Challenor insisted she did not know the full details of the allegations against her father at the time, and said her friend’s Twitter account had been hacked and he had not posted the comments.

Nothin to do with me guv. Why would a 'friends' hacked account be any issue relating to AC?

The Spectator’s Steerpike column accused Reddit of “zealously blocking content about her” after it was revealed that a person posting an article mentioning her had been suspended.

this makes it sound like a bit of a non-issue. Content about a Reddit employe (and we tend to assume employees have gone through normal vetting procedures because that's what normal companies do). No mention of which boards AC moderates or the people that gives AC unfettered access to or why this blocking of content is a red flag.

The user was reinstated by Reddit, shortly after the moderators for the politics channel raised objections with the website. The moderators said they “had no idea what had happened, or why posting this article resulted in permanent suspension”. Other users have described Reddit’s actions as “censorship”.

Minimise, storm in a teacup, techy row - nothing to see here...

John Bercow (ex speaker of the HOC) also closely tied to Stonewall and he refused a question by an mp about males being locked up in women’s prisons....Might he have things to hide? It’ll all come out in the end...

NecessaryScene1 · 25/03/2021 09:56

Certainly not AC herself. Nowhere near bright or enigmatic enough. Easily led though I suspect.

Which I guess is the point? AC is clearly extremely nerdy and tech savvy - someone who is willing to unpaid spend hours working their way up in communities like Reddit.

Someone like that embedded in an IT world - with a clear "circle the wagons", "cover stuff up" mentality is going to be clearly very useful for the wrong people.

The Stonewall etc positions seem maybe like they're networking? Making sure people who would maybe want to have an IT mod/admin shield get to meet them?

PronounssheRa · 25/03/2021 09:51

Challenor has been enabled for years by stonewall the green party the lib dems while anyone urging caution was labelled a bigot.

Somebody somewhere is suggesting AC for these things. Certainly not AC herself. Nowhere near bright or enigmatic enough. Easily led though I suspect.

The question is who...

RoyalCorgi · 25/03/2021 09:43

No they're not going to get a big job for a while, unless they namechange.

Of course, Aimee has already changed names twice - from Ashton Challenor to Aimee Challenor, and then to Aimee Knight. For anyone who isn't particularly zealous about due diligence, that would be a good way of hiding, for starters, the arrest for threatening a cyberattack on Birmingham's Bull Ring.

So, what is Aimee's secret? We know that Aimee doesn't have a degree, and possibly not even A-levels. Aimee doesn't seem to be over-endowed with personal charm or charisma. And yet Aimee has been a Green Party candidate, sat on a Stonewall advisory committee and taken an important role at Reddit. What exactly was on Aimee's CV that made her seem a sufficiently impressive candidate that she was called for interview/ What might Aimee have said at interview that made the Reddit recruiters she was better qualified than all the other candidates (no doubt people with degrees and postgraduate qualifications) who must have applied?

Xanthangum · 25/03/2021 09:32

... oh no I fell for Rubie's gag. Ah well, more fool me.

Xanthangum · 25/03/2021 09:32

and also: After the Aimee Challenor debacle at Reddit, it's now emerged that Reddit states it 'provides tools for scrubbing your personally identifiable information from the web' as a benefit of working at the company on its job application forms
