Jolene, and other anti-feminist anthems

Just to say this is a light-hearted chat thread.
I love jolene, sing it with a minor adaptation every time I'm cleaning the windows. I have no idea about the background, but it must come near the top of the least feminist songs ever!
Another which I've just heard is sheryl crow, strong enough. "lie to me, I promise I'll believe, lie to me, but please don't leave"
Brilliant song, awful lyrics :)

Never Ever by All Saints. Embarrassed to say that when I was 17 and my abusive boyfriend had dumped me and I begged to get him back (he was always going to have taken me back, he was just cruel and made it look like it was my begging that had done it) this was my anthem. I now look back and cringe. What was I thinking?

Oh yes just be good to me. I always think that, I realise yiure a bit of a shit but things are OK at the moment. Maybe your previous girlfriends didn't understand you.

I’m pretty sure DP wrote that song about a real woman trying to steal her man. I wouldn’t knock her for singing about that!
I think she said Jolene was a woman who worked in their local bank.

I find this song doubly jarring because I really hate the lyrics and it was doing well in the charts at the same time I found out my then-boyfriend was cheating on me. I stayed with him for 3 more years 🤦🏻‍♀️

I love Jolene though; I always sing it loudly when I'm in the car 😁

I actually really like DP so I don't mind Jolene, if anything it could be viewed as slightly down on the man who appears to have no agency
