Laurence Fox answers Women’s Place UK questions

As a candidate for London mayor Laurence Fox has answered five questions on women's rights and it is a breath of fresh air. Highlights being:

First of all, the police cannot protect what it does not define. We acknowledge that women are adult human females. They are vulnerable as a result of biological sex.

Acknowledge that The Equality Act 2010 provides legislative protection for women by virtue of their sex. We will enforce it without fear or favour and protect the rights of women to single sex spaces.

Ring fence funding for single-sex refuges and support services

Lets hope this puts pressure on the other candidates

Dick "TBH, I'm one of those agressive northern women and I really couldn't give a shit about what seems to be a largely ceremonial position which gave us Boris on a zipwire as a memorable contribution to the job."

There's a 9% increase in the tax I pay and I can't get the bus anywhere due to LTNs. It's not ceremonial. They can spend our money and crap on our lives.

Juliesipadwillcallyouback · 20/03/2021 11:26

OMG that video! Shock

I'm pretty sure you can see Sadiq looking at his bingo card - straight out of the block with suicidal trans kids, you are conflating sex and gender, inciting hatred, just be kind blah blah blah.

For God's sake, whatever you do Sadiq, don't answer any difficult questions, always stick to the script!

Also, that guy at the end had clearly missed the whole House of Lords Maternity Bill 'mother' thing!

SunsetBeetch · 20/03/2021 11:25

@Imnobody4

It's not about electing him for heaven's sake - it's about the debate. Who else is going to raise difficult questions and expose the hypocrisy of current politicians. See video above. Shaun Bailey doesn't seem to be making much headway at the moment - it will be interesting to see how he reacts.
Yup. Anything that gives this debate more attention is useful imo.

Khan can't answer the question

NecessaryScene1 · 20/03/2021 09:06

What experience does he have for a role I assume is pretty complex and requires a good understanding of governance?

Indeed. But what use is someone with experience if they don't have the spine to say they know what a woman is, lest some crazed blue-hairs start shrieking?

I'd love to have someone with experience + a spine, but if I'm forced to go with one, I tend to choose the spine.

DickKerrLadies · 20/03/2021 09:01

TBH, I'm one of those agressive northern women and I really couldn't give a shit about what seems to be a largely ceremonial position which gave us Boris on a zipwire as a memorable contribution to the job.

But I find it very typical of the woke-left to pounce on any of this as so-called evidence of how we're all evil t*rfs because it completely ignores that a huge chunk of the country IMO essentially sees London as a different country and very far removed from northern working class lives. Remember them? They used to vote Labour.

As a PP put it:

"Could we be out of touch? No, it's the people who are wrong."

Anyway! I think I need another brew now Grin

Juliesipadwillcallyouback · 20/03/2021 08:53

But if arsehole men are using what is said for their own purposes ( and they are) it doesn't mean we should stop.

Exactly - I'm not going to go, 'do you know what, I'm going to totally abandon my belief in biological sex and women's right to single sex provision because the people I'm generally politically aligned with seem to have abandoned women for woke cookies and the only people who are actually speaking out on it are the likes of LF, so...... No more single sex spaces! Puberty blockers for kids! Erasure of women as a sex class! But at least I'll be on the same side as Owen Jones..... ' Hmm

No doubt this thread will end up on Twitter as an example of' Mumsnet being in cahoots with the alt-right' despite the fact that most of the posts here have been critical of LF and analysing why this is happening and how it has happened before.

Oh and with regards to what 'alt-right' is... I think it means 'any view that doesn't align exactly with mine'. Smile

CardinalLolzy · 20/03/2021 08:50

Spot on, ova.

As to the other point, lots of people will see "Laurence Fox" in the thread title, will think "ffs not that gobshite again" and won't want to read the thread to save their sanity...

OvaHere · 20/03/2021 08:26

Regardless of Fox's opinions about anything it seems like a dreadful idea to elect someone who has spent their entire career as an actor into a position like MoL.

What experience does he have for a role I assume is pretty complex and requires a good understanding of governance?

My decade spent working in local government makes me more qualified on paper and I'd be a dreadful choice for the job.

I understand why people seek out alternatives because so many public officials and politicians seem to have zero backbone these days but I don't think electing completely unsuitable and inexperienced candidates is the answer.

I've nothing against anyone wishing to get into politics but going straight for something as high profile as the MoL does smack of arrogance and hubris. The sensible route for most people is to start small and learn the ropes in local elections as a councillor or similar.

Perhaps he has no illusions about winning (I haven't followed his campaign) and the purpose is just to make noise and get in the press but with all the surprise elections we've had in the last 5 years there's no guarantee that it wouldn't come to pass.

Lessthanaballpark · 20/03/2021 07:27

His comments about white privilege not existing were particularly idiotic given the role that made him famous, which I very much doubt would have been open to a woman or someone of colour.

Talk about the blindness of white male privilege.

^Seeing a lot of posters here rush to sign onto the idea that he's all right. same with Ngo and Peterson when their threads popped up.^

&At least in this case, I'm seeing more pushback. Probably because people are more knowledgeable about an English wanker and American ones.^

Finally! The intellectual break-through comes!

We did keep telling you that this is a British site, that we had no idea who these people were and we weren't going to be able to condemn them without evidence.

If you know of them and you have an opinion on them, it is your job to convince us that they are wankers.

If you would like a model on how to do this, you could do worse than look at my own posts in this thread about Fox. As you can (presumably) deduce, I don't like him that much and I have explained why. I even linked to his star turn on the Delingpod.

I've lived in England for 25 years.

I just pay more attention to global happenings, I guess?

Hibari · 20/03/2021 06:56

@PotholeHellhole

P.S.

With this post of mine, this thread will reach 125 posts. Less than ten of those were in favour of LF for Mayor of London.

So I need to know what thread Hibari is reading, where "a lot of posters" are saying they support LF.

Confused of Chelmsford

Ten is a lot for how much of a racist wanker he is.
WarriorN · 20/03/2021 06:48

I don't like him. I think he's a self obsessed twat.

And I think Billie worked that out pdq.

EdgeOfACoin · 20/03/2021 05:45

@RNBrie

I know the person who wrote those answers for him. She is heavily involved in FPFW.

My personal opinion is that he doesn't give a shit about women or anything other than himself. But he's well schooled in PR and how to keep his name in the media.

Oh, someone else wrote the answers?

Well that explains why they were so surprisingly sensible on the NON-GC stuff.

Sounds like he's got what it takes to be a politician. Star

continuallyconflating · 20/03/2021 04:32

Peterson is a poor scholar and an ignorant fool who revelled in his few years in the public eye after some standard middle aged man reactionary behaviour gave him notoriety
His work is dull and convoluted with no great insight where he does hit the target, and is laughably wrong where it doesn't
It's also shines through that the diazepam didn't help him form coherent thoughts
Also Andy Ngo is an irrelevant provocateur who is fighting equally irrelevant provocateurs
Satisfied @Hibari ?

I'm Scottish but listen to The Majority Report most days, a radioshow/podcast, which for Americans is hard socialist left but for us is pretty standard fair
Peterson's a particular bete-noir of theirs, so I checked out some of his stuff

And this knob LF can fuck right off and all btw

NiceGerbil · 20/03/2021 03:32

This is London mayor I think?

How many on the thread have a vote in it?

SmokedDuck · 20/03/2021 03:12

@NiceGerbil

Protest votes are not always a fab idea.

And making a dick like him look more popular than he is, is not good. How will anyone know how many are protest and how many are real?

With the current political climate he might do quite well genuinely, who knows.

Why are we all taking about this tosser again?

Keeping on voting for the same shit is also not a great idea, because nothing changes. Tweedledum or tweedledee, it's shit however you look at it.

There are only a few ways for people to show what they think when that's the situation: just change who they vote for among traditional candidates - well if they are are all shit that's no good as they all assume votes mean real support.

Vote for a third party or alternative type of candidate: it can be difficult to tell why people like them - is it a protest or desperation or what, although later it may be clearer when you see if they maintain support - and some candidates of this type are just not up to much if they actually win.

Vote for some sort of joke candidate: this at least in numbers shows people are dissatisfied but often isn't an option. Plus they tend not to add much to the election discourse.

Don't vote: hard to interpret, seems like apathy.

...and yeah. Populists will always do this to try and bank on protest votes while presenting themself as anti-establishment.

They've been taking the piss recently with Farage and Reese-Mogg trying their hands at it.

Hibari · 20/03/2021 03:00
