I also don’t think she should loose her Job because she won’t have been directly in control on the night, someone way below her but still very senior would have been calling it. There would have been a commander in charge.
Right now she’s standing by her teams. Which I get. She’s not throwing them under the bus.
However I think the night was handled terribly. The officers look like they are proactively assaulting women. The decision to move to physical enforcement was a terrible one. There was no way for them to bodily remove 1500 women, there was simply not enough coppers and never could have been.
Once you start trying to physically remove the women it’s always going to become a nightmare scenario, always. And you can see officers kneeing women, straddling them, elbowing them, women bloodied and hurt.
The optics of a vigil for Sarah and about violence against women to then see the police demonstrate violence to them is just appalling.
Whomever was calling it should habe thought, ok, there’s 1500 we can’t remove that many and it’s going to look shit, so let’s police is sensitively, ensure social distancing where possible snd keep it peaceful. Hand out masks if required.
Not decide, right start forcibly handcuffing them and dragging them out.
There’s a lot of questions to be answered on this one in terms of the terrible decisions that were made on the night, and saying they were breaching Covid so a risk to public safety isn’t good enough. Public safety was not protected by the physical abuse these women suffered. In fact it got worse, because women were trying to protect one another so getting closer.
