Sisters uncut who are said to be a driving force in turning last nights gathering from a vigil to a protest are now protesting on behalf of “women murdered by the state”.

Two of these “women” are rapists who brutalised children.

How can anyone be ok with this?

"Sisters Uncut set a gang of masked males on a flash mob arranged by rape centres last year. The women were protesting rape culture. The "sisters" stood with the men terrorising rape victims."

Thanks for posting the SU manifesto, jj1968.

There is no mention of male violence, and there is no mention of women. The only mention of “sex” refers to sexual activity. I would like to know how SU defines ‘survivor’ (a group of people eligible for special treatment), and whether ‘reproductive justice’ includes males’ access to women’s reproductive systems for the purpose of surrogacy.

The Grenfell Tower smoke bomb was London Bi Pandas, IIRC. There was an article in Diva magazine.

yourhairiswinterfire · 15/03/2021 13:38

A Tory man most famous for fighting a racist election campaign is probably not the hero young feminists are looking for.

I'd argue that a group paying tribute to convicted rapists and paedophiles aren't exactly heroes to women, young or old, either...

JosieJarker · 15/03/2021 13:32

"On that subject, has anyone else seen some photos of Patsy Stevenson being held by police but not in a mask where it suddenly becomes very obvious that they've been posed?"
The thought has crossed my mind.
I find it odd that she appears to be wearing a mask in some and not others.
All getting abit weird.
And to suggest that there wouldnt have been a 'demo' as that person on Facebook kept calling it, without sisters uncut is just bonkers.
It was supposed to be a vigil not a demo you arseholes.

SunsetBeetch · 15/03/2021 13:26

@Ereshkigalangcleg

Did they also set off smoke bombs at Grenfell Tower or was that a different group?

Different group I think.

That was the London Bi Pandas.

For balance the demands of Sisters Uncut are listed below:

These are our demands:

Provide the funding needed for specialist domestic violence services to meet the needs of all survivors.

A long term funding plan from central, local, and devolved government. Funding must go to specialist organisations. Services must be run for survivors not for profit.

The services funded must offer flexible, trauma-informed support from the early stages, through crisis and into recovery. They must be accessible to all survivors, who must be able to choose to access services run for and by their community.

Sexual abuse services are in crisis. We demand long term, secure funding for specialist sexual violence services that provide advocacy, health care, and counselling both in crisis and through long term recovery.

Poverty, economic insecurity, and welfare cuts kill. We demand universal access to a benefits system that treats people with respect; a real living wage; reproductive justice; and health and social care provision. There is no safety without welfare.

The UK immigration system is racist and violent. Access to safety and services should not be dependent on immigration status. End no recourse to public funds.

Survivors are being trapped in violent situations by councils refusing them housing. We demand access to safe and secure social housing for all, with priority to survivors. Build more council homes.

The cycle of violence must be broken through a holistic and comprehensive LGBTQI+ inclusive strategy to educate all on gender, sex and relationships, and systemic power dynamics, led by survivors and specialist services.

The criminal justice system does not work for survivors. We need a system that does not ignore, neglect and re-traumatise. Survivors must not be criminalised.

The family court system requires complete reform in order to provide safety for survivors. Guarantee access to legal aid.

Correction to my earlier post it was manchester resisters who held the anti rape protest.
Not spinners.
Apologies.

EsmaCannonball · 15/03/2021 13:17

The main feminist critique of the police is that they fail to deliver protection and justice to women. Sisters Uncut think that's a good thing. They wouldn't arrest flashers and domestic abusers too.

@jj1968

- a lot of women don't realise the 'project' they've 'joined' is actually to dismantle the police.

I think the hundreds of women who surrounded Scotland Yard last night chanting fuck the police are well aware of what they've joined. Feminists have long had an analysis of how patriarchal institutions like the police perpetuate male violence and they are carrying on in that tradition.

"Fuck the police" isn't the same as "Get rid of the police and set all offenders free" though is it? (I still think it's pretty tasteless myself.)

Again, as with the list of "women killed by the police" I have to wonder if these women really know what they are supporting.

MsGrumpytrousers · 15/03/2021 13:14

As people have said, there are some good comments on the Reclaim These Streets threads and the admins seem to be doing an okay job. So it doesn't look as though Sisters Uncut owns them or is able to dictate to them. But jesus, what a mess.

On that subject, has anyone else seen some photos of Patsy Stevenson being held by police but not in a mask where it suddenly becomes very obvious that they've been posed? I found myself last night at paranoid o'clock wondering if the ones all over the newspapers (where she's masked) had been posed too. Easy enough to don a hi-vis jacket and mask and look like a policeman. They're very tidy and very clear. Just the police and the one red-haired woman, who's now boasting on twitter about having 'gone viral' - and once again, Sarah Everard's name has disappeared from the narrative.

Btw it's Ms – not Mrs! Gah! Don't make my trousers more grumpy!

newrubylane · 15/03/2021 13:12

Re. Reclaim These Streets, the Anna mentioned above is Anna Birley. Saw her on the news the other day and thought she looked familiar, then she mentioned she was at the same uni as Sarah Everard, as was I, so I looked her up. See pic.

I see people have tagged in Baroness Nicholson, Julia Hartley-Brewer and Helen Lewis. Good. Sunlight.

EsmaCannonball · 15/03/2021 13:00

One of the main issues in the Sarah Everard case is that the police didn't police enough; Sisters Uncut wouldn't have them police at all. I think the public need to be aware that this very vocal group don't want the man who did this locked up.

Siablue · 15/03/2021 12:58

I do think that many of the people who are joining in the protest have no idea about some of the motives of Sisters Uncut.

I think it is reasonable to want to know where the money is going to. The very minimum standard you want from a group that protests about male violence against women is that they would support all women who were victims of violence rather than their abusers.

They also protested against cocercive control being made an offence.

Helen Lewis has a good thread about them and she pointed out that being against prison doesn’t necessarily mean being against prison for all cases and has a good podcast to listen to.

It seems from twitter that JustGiving are looking into it all & women asking fir refunds are being reassured they’ll get them

EsmaCannonball · 15/03/2021 12:53

Yes, they don't want to arrest or imprison even the most serious of sex offenders and they want to abolish all female-only spaces. One might be forgiven for thinking they have an incredibly sinister incel agenda.

Didn't one of them, an Oxbridge graduate with a cushy middle-class job, break the glasses of a Mumsnet member leaving a feminist meeting?

EmpressWitchDoesntBurn · 15/03/2021 12:52

They've just organised the largest feminist protest the UK has seen for probably over a decade, and put themselves in the firing line to do it. I'd hardly call them wreckers.

No. You wouldn’t.

No, they hijacked it.

You might admire a group that hold rapists and pedophiles up as martyr's to their cause, but I don't.

I was talking about the protest outside Scotland yard last night. And they didn't hijack the vigil, from what I can tell they decided to go ahead with it after the initial organisers pulled out due to police pressure and that decision was hugely popular hence the large attendence.
WendyTestaburger · 15/03/2021 12:50

Wow mrsgrumpytrousers

The arrogance of the person quoted. They really can't imagine that, without Sisters Uncut acting as chaperone, that hundreds of local women wouldn't have quietly turned up, laid flowers, and remembered Sarah.

jj I wonder.

I reckon that

  • a lot of women don't realise the 'project' they've 'joined' is actually to dismantle the police.

Is that even a 'feminist' project?

I reckon they've both widened it out so much as to make it meaningless

And

Turned the focus to something that will cause women to peel away, disheartened.

I reckon it's a lethal move - and typical: get in early; kill potential feminist projects in the cradle; suck up women's energy; leave women demoralised and sidelined, yet again.
