Sisters uncut who are said to be a driving force in turning last nights gathering from a vigil to a protest are now protesting on behalf of “women murdered by the state”.

Two of these “women” are rapists who brutalised children.

How can anyone be ok with this?

They are grim AF.
Not in my name, Sisters Uncut.

SirVixofVixHall · 15/03/2021 09:46

I thought SU were all men ? That the “uncut” bit referred to having penises ? Are there women involved too ?

PronounssheRa · 15/03/2021 09:27

Sisters uncut have demonstrated against many women's meetings. The fact they have hijacked Sarah's murder to further their own ends and make demands for cash makes me sick.

Excellent article in Unherd on this today, referencing the hijacking by Sisters Uncut:

@sarahditum "A series of appalling decisions by the police around the Clapham vigil leaves them looking like they're against women - and handed a gift to pseudo-feminists like Sisters Uncut"

This is the joy of "identity politics". Some of the most objectionable people get to appoint themselves as "community leaders" and the powers-that-be then listen to the "community leaders" they find most convenient.

Skips all that boring democracy stuff.

So naturally for a lot of people it will be very convenient if Sisters Uncut can be treated "leaders of the women community", like Stonewall are "leaders of the gay community". You have one leader per community. And curiously they all agree. Hmm

All these groups need to be put at arms' length. Governments should listen to them, but never treat them as particularly authoritative. Sisters Uncut and Stonewall are no more or less representative than Fair Play For Women and LGB Alliance.

None of these groups are really representing a community - they're all representing viewpoints and every community has multiple viewpoints.

One of their earliest actions was protesting the film 'Suffragette', in response to cuts to domestic violence services.

“If you look at the suffragettes they didn’t just storm film premieres,” one member said, “they threatened to kidnap members of parliament, they smashed glasses, they threatened to bomb places.” Whether or not Sisters Uncut are going to take their protests that far remains to be seen.

No matter how they started out, these days Sisters Uncut sound more like TRAs and anti-police activists than feminists. No feminists would be protesting about the prison deaths of males who were locked up for abusing women and children.

ErrolTheDragon · 15/03/2021 08:57

Are they just too scared to comment negatively on any ‘woman’s’ organisation for fear of being called sexist?

They should be able to do something on 'anti carceral' groups in general, I'd have thought.

Siablue · 15/03/2021 08:56

It is worrying that they seem to be driving the narrative on this. They are organising a meeting to discuss the next steps. A lot of people seem to think they are a charity who help victims of domestic abuse but it is very clear from their website that they don’t actually do that. They direct women who need support to the national domestic abuse helpline whilst criticising women aid who help run the helpline for not being ‘inclusive’ enough. Where will the money they get go?

I think it is possible to be very critical of the prison system and but think that some very serious offenders should be in there. The blurring the lines between victims and offenders is victim blaming bollocks too.

We need to make sure the attention that has come from this actually goes towards positive steps to helping women. I feel total dispair at the moment.

I don’t know how the press isn’t picking this up? And the other group. Are they just too scared to comment negatively on any ‘woman’s’ organisation for fear of being called sexist?

TheRabbitOfCaerbannog · 15/03/2021 08:48

*They have an absolute barefaced cheek now demanding that the original organisers donate money to pay their fines and legal costs.

This is pretty outrageous.

RainingBatsAndFrogs · 15/03/2021 08:47

Although I think the police should have handled the CC event very differently, SU had no business hijacking the vigil and appropriating an event originally organised by another group.

They have an absolute barefaced cheek now demanding that the original organisers donate money to pay their fines and legal costs.

The original organisers cancelled the event and replaced it with a fundraiser specifically because they did not want money to go in fines, but to women’s’ charities.

SU think that means them 🙄.

I will be well pissed off if the organisers give any of the fund I donated to to this lot.

FindTheTruth · 15/03/2021 08:46

omg - these people are awful. I'm sorry I started another thread (Clapham Common) with footage of them. The optics were so misleading.

@PegasusReturns

On the plus side the majority of comments seem to be calling them out on it

People are calling them out when they realise what they stand for. But thousands and thousands of women don’t know. 21,000 donated to reclaim these streets/ sisters uncut. They turned up to protests at Scotland Yard and parliament square on behalf of at least two male rapists who killed them selves.

Almost 9000 people liked a photo of their protest yesterday

We need to get the word out!

I see some brave souls on twitter are trying.

Additionally at a meeting organised by
@WomansPlaceUK
Edinburgh which I attended, Sisters Uncut stood outside bashing pots and pans drowning out the voices of survivors of abuse and violence. They were invited to join the packed meeting to present their view but declined.

They seem to mean deaths in police or prison custody from all causes.
Including males who were jailed for a variety of very violent and/or sex crimes including child sex abuse (Cope's victims were little girls) is not exactly going to persuade many sane people that 'anti carceral feminism' is a good thing. It will just give men another 'mad feminists' stick to beat us with.

TheRabbitOfCaerbannog · 15/03/2021 08:33

Anti-carceral feminism seems to be all the rage, even with people I'd previously viewed as sensible (I know Eva Wiseman is fully TWAW however).

I don't know much about the origins of this - assumed it was something to do with Queer theory so googled and came up with this chapter from Jane Clare Jones' phd thesis which I'll read when I have time, but I'm sure there are wiser heads than mine on FWR who know way more about it.

Yes. And were there at Speakers Corner, and gloated about it afterwards with a tweet saying they were "led by trans women".
