It was obvious this was going to happen. How could the Met not see this coming?

I felt angry before, but having seen those videos - I'm so angry now.

If there are further protests, I will be joining them. We need to be able to speak freely. This is so clear - women are held in contempt - we are meant to be silenced.

Xenia · 13/03/2021 22:08

When you think of what else they seem to have tolerated such as all those eco protests and Greta T and BLM and yet as soon as it is women protesting any tolerance and rights of protest go out the window.

rosetylersbiggun · 13/03/2021 22:06

I was one of the women sitting on the bandstand.

The vigil was completely peaceful.

At one point we were told police had given permission for us to go onto the bandstand, which we did. Immediately the press rushed and shoved to be first on the bandstand. I reckon at least half the people who made it onto the bandstand were press, not protestors.

There were a handful of police on the bandstand, who were making demeaning and hostile comments towards us, which caused some of the protestors to be mouthy back. No one was abusive or threatening, just responding verbally to the police's comments.

The police formed a human cordon across the entrances to the bandstand so no one else could enter, essentially trapping those already on the bandstand inside.

At this point they ordered us to leave but it was dangerous or difficult to obey their commands because of the thick wall of people.

The police were happy for the press to stay on the bandstand and did not ask press to leave.

The police singled out female protestors when it was male protestors who were being the loudest and most aggressive.

The police presence was unreal. A huge mob of police. A wall of police. I've never seen so many police in one area.

At least six police vans and one truck that had something army written on it (don't know what that was).

After the police roughed up and arrested a few women most of the police got in vans and left. Only a dozen police left who stood in a huddle some distance away.

All the remaining protestors walked back to the bandstand and lit candles and the police seemed completely happy to ignore and let it go since they'd achieved their goal of manhandling some women and putting on a show for the press.

Almost all the police left before the vigil had ended.

Those women should be ashamed Breaking the law the way they did is disrespectful to the memory of Sarah and especially her grieving family

[quote TheRabbitOfCaerbannog]Footage on these threads. Met police manhandling women at a vigil for a female victim of male violence. It's making my blood run cold:

You forgot that the male was a met officer!

WarriorN · 13/03/2021 21:52

I'm horrified that someone thought it was appropriate to display that slur at a vigil for a woman who has been murdered, being as the slur is usually accompanied with some of the worst threats of violence against women I've ever seen.

It's disgusting

Whenthesunshines · 13/03/2021 21:49

Cristal : There is a full feed on YouTube if you want to watch. You can see it was peaceful at the beginning, what happened when the police rocked up, and you will see it is calm and peaceful again now that the police have gone

Thanks! I'll have a look!

Whenthesunshines · 13/03/2021 21:48

A minute ago you seemed certain that the police were dragging the women away 'to protect them', whenthesunshines. Now that the same woman is on the floor, held down by officers, you say you don't know

I described what I saw in the video.
How would I know what happened afterwards? As I said, I wasn't there.

Rob Jessel with image which shows what a TRF is tied to a free at Clapham Common vigil*

Absolutely appalling.

Whydidimarryhim · 13/03/2021 21:34

Bloody disgusting treatment of women by men again!!!
The police is filled with men of low intelligence who do not know how to deescalate a situation and go in heavy handed. Lots of bullies and narrow minded men. It is only a 13 week course to start your training. Very basic.
If police women had handled this situation it would have remained peaceful.
Something needs to be done - but what -
It is run by a female - where is she?
The police will spin it - violent protesters - breaking COVID rules - bla bla bla. It will be interesting to see the press tomorrow.
Maybe men are feeling threatened!!!
We’ve had ME TOO - Black Lives Matter - what about Women Matter
Sleep well every one.

Her poor family

CristalCarrington · 13/03/2021 21:32

@Whenthesunshines - The auburn haired girl was sitting quietly on the band stand, holding a made sign about not feeling safe.

She sat with three friends with her back against the pole, and tried to stay there while police were swarming around pulling at her and her friends. She looked scared more than anything and was looking ahead and trying to ignore the large male officer who had his hand on her arm and was shouting in her ear and ordering her to leave.

That photo must have been taken after they grabbed her and dragged her back.

This group did not look like women. It seems that where ever there is anger, there is a group ready to take the protest that bit further.

A lot seemed to be appropriating the vigil for their own gains.

An officer from the met has been arrested (allegedly) for the murder of Sarah.

Woman want to hold a vigil for her.

The Met arrest women for this.

Very bad call. Shameful. Utterly shameful.
