www.redonline.co.uk/health-self/relationships/a35794452/signs-of-financial-abuse/

There’s been a rise in cases in the last year as a result of the pandemic. Research* found that since March 2020, a further 1.6m people are having their finances controlled by someone else and the increase is sharpest among women under 35.

ThisIsSimplyBeyond · 16/03/2021 22:56

And I type that as someone who is vulnerable to covid.

ThisIsSimplyBeyond · 16/03/2021 22:55

I'd guess, asurvivor, it's because even vulnerable women have only been at risk of covid for one year - whereas they have been at risk of male VAWG for their entire lives.

asurvivornotinmyname · 16/03/2021 22:49

In the past I was told on here to leave my violent ex and to call the police. I'm glad the police were there for me when I needed them. It's scary because the more hate they get, the less likely it is they can recruit and retain. Who saves the lives of women then?

I don't understand why working class, disabled, minority ethnic, and older women don't matter. These are the women dying from covid. They shouldn't be put at extra risk through large groups of people gathering. London is still behind the rest of the UK with the vaccine rollout.

SunsetBeetch · 16/03/2021 19:38

Sadly very true.

I hadn't heard of Sistah Space before. They look like a good organisation.

MercyBooth · 16/03/2021 19:35

@stumbledin That was a good edition of Newsnight last night. They covered a lot in 45 minutes.

stumbledin · 16/03/2021 19:30

Newsnight interview www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p099srpr

Not forgetting that Reclaim These Streets had to ask women from BME communities to come forward to talk to the press because they realised and / or the media pointed out that it made it seem they only cared about white women like themselves.

stumbledin · 16/03/2021 19:27

I think the most signifigant part of the newsnight interview were the comments from the representative from Sistah Space.

The big elephant in the room is that the response, right from the moment Sarah went missing all the way through the media coverage, local women getting involved, and the wider involvement illustrates what she was saying.

If you are white and middle class the response is very different to what happens when Black and other minority ethnic women go missing and are murdered.

Remember the two sisters the police didn't even look for and their families had to go and found their bodies. Where was the media outrage there? Where were women coming together to express support and raise money.

Just remembered that 31 Met officers thought they were above Covid rules by getting a haircut. THIRTY ONE

Sunset you may well be right, it could be a different woman-apologies.

www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool-news/mum-son-threatened-social-services-20176981

A Liverpool mum was given a £200 fine and "threatened with social services" after she took her son to a Sarah Everard vigil.

Catherine Bolton said officers warned they would refer her family to social services after she took her eight-year-old son to the vigil in Liverpool city centre on Saturday.

The 43-year-old, told the Mirror, she was stopped by police after the event who then "tried to silence" her with "bullying’ behaviour".

Catherine claimed she went to the vigil with another single mum, who was in her bubble, and attempted to stay away from others.

However she says she was approached by an officer after the event was over.

She said: "We were purposely standing away from the crowd and were across the road when I noticed a restaurant where my mum had her 60th birthday party so was showing my friend when a police officer approached me and told me to go home.

SunsetBeetch · 16/03/2021 18:21

Oh I missed it, might give it a watch.

Is anyone on twitter, and who could get in touch with Maggie? I know she's not the kind of person who would like to be spreading misinformation.

From last nights Newsnight.

says she has seen rape victims “blamed, belittled, ridiculed and ignored by officers who are supposed to be supporting them”

#Newsnight

Last nights Newsnight is worth watching all the way through.

SunsetBeetch · 16/03/2021 18:11

If you look through the replies to the original tweet, people are pointing out the lighter hair colour, hair up not down, different jacket and different masks (shouty lady is wearing and Adidas one, Patsy is wearing a Fair-trade one).

If nothing else, it proves that there was indeed a shouty contingency among the crowd, I suppose.

SunsetBeetch · 16/03/2021 18:07
twitter.com/Flashmaggie/status/1371477950676221953?s=20
I don't think it's the same woman.

happydappy2 · 16/03/2021 17:56

@flashmaggie has posted on twitter, footage of Patsy before she was arrested-shouting at an officer & jabbing her finger in his face-apologies I can't link but someone else might find it. The policeman is asking her to leave as it's no longer a peaceful vigil but a protest-Patsy is pretty vocal & provocative.

stumbledin · 16/03/2021 17:46

Sorry from women who were there, and Sisters Uncut twitter thread and the counterfire interview women were actively involved.

This does happen you know. Women being aggressive.

And is in fact standard behaviour for SU!

rosetylersbiggun · 16/03/2021 14:56

To clarify I'm not suggesting it was exclusively men co-opting things. A minority of women attended with an agenda. But there certainly were men and the police refused to act against them, and the press have not covered it.

rosetylersbiggun · 16/03/2021 14:55

If it had been some grubby male trot encouraging people to act with disrespect to the event, they would have been all over it.

Wrong. Absolutely dead wrong.

It was MEN and male activists who were there to push their own agenda (a group of violent male anti-maskers, and one very loud man with a loudhailer screaming anti-police sentiments).

The police completely ignored them and refused to arrest them. I witnessed four male anti-maskers physically attack police, the police simply shoved them away but made no attempt to arrest them.

(The police actively targeted women for arrest, after kettling women in an enclosed area and not letting them leave.)

It was the women who were trying to shout down and get rid of loudhailer man, for being so disrespectful towards Sarah and for co-opting the vigil for his own agenda.

ZERO PRESS COVERAGE

stumbledin · 16/03/2021 14:50

Even the newspapers are now reporting that Sisters Uncut took over the event.

And when I posted much earlier on the thread about Patsy being an actress (nobody is saying she is paid) it is part of the fact that SU are skilled manipulators of other people's political events.

And no SU were not protesting violence against women, they turned up with banners about defunding the police (see their twitter feed) and megaphones.

You dont need megaphones at a vigil.

Whether it was SU or Women's Strike or even the SWP in trying to take over the band stand to make speeches they clearly showed they had not respect for the purpose of the event, let alone Sarah and her family.

And again, as any who knows about street protest, part of the purpose is the spectacle, so you do something that will provoke the police, and that wait for the photos ops to arrive.

But however heavy handed the police were, by trying to turn it into a protest and by creating a focal point for speeches it encouraged a really large crowd to surge forward into a smaller and smaller space. It was a really dangerous thing to do.

And the original organisers who are saying if we have been in charge it wouldn't have happened, just show their political naivety.

Prior to this take over people were coming and laying flowers etc., and then moving on.

In fact without this attempt at rabble rousing is with other vigils it could have been possible to be there quietly all night in groups of mixing with others, sharing and reflecting. This is about people how see politics as a chance for confrontation and posturing.

Ironcially Sky news (I think) who went all solemn and we have investigated how the policing went so wrong showed with a series of over head shots of the park how people had been coming and going and mingling. How there was a minutes silence at 6pm and then a local Councillor who was attending asking people to leave quietly. And the police sort of trying to say yes please, move along now.

And then of bit later said and now you can hear Patsy (on some sort of megaphone) urging people not to leave, that the police had no right to do so.

And as I think I said before what is so strange is how the MSM are reporting this. If it had been some grubby male trot encouraging people to act with disrespect to the event, they would have been all over it.

Is it any wonder that so many male political groups love to push women to the front because they know that entrenched sexism in the media doesn't see women as having the same level of threat / political importance / manipulative skills / .... as men!

SunsetBeetch · 16/03/2021 13:28

@JosieJarker

I dont think she's a crisis actor or a plant. I do think she might be part of a group that deliberately turned a peaceful vigil into a protest to turn attention towards their own agenda.
Same.

hoodathunkit · 16/03/2021 11:14

Feminists trying to make out she is a crisis actor/plant rather than a female arrested after protesting male violence against women is just weird.

We have to be extremely careful about such speculation as it risks falling into the consiracy rabbit hole that claims that people involved in various protests, and victims of atrocities, are crisis actors - it is a common theme amongst the David Icke followers, flat earthers and SRA conspiracists.

Keeping an open mind about what might be going on is very important, as is not victim blaming or doxxing innocent people, which "crisis actor" theories can easily turn into
