Solidarity with Jack Monroe, who is a great human being who does some wonderful things. Hugely brave of her to tell this. Yet another example of police ignoring women reporting crimes. And another reminder to remain sensitive to the complex reasons female bodied people may not always feel good about being female bodied.

Despite everything that has happened this week, courts still ignoring the seriousness of sexual assaults.

Horrific. Poor Jack. Thanks

Cailleach1 · 13/03/2021 09:21

It sounds awful. A nightmare.

However, do women really say other women are a disgrace for wanting to 'look less feminine'. Nobody has ever said that to me; ever. However, I may have been lucky with my background, family, OH and friends.

As it is men who mostly do stuff like this, maybe anger towards women is a little misplaced. I understand women are an easy target to blame for things, but that is possibly part of the climate that enables nasty men to get away with things in the first place. Even when it is men who do things like that, there is still a reason to bring women in to blame for something.

What a terrible read. The awful impact of childhood abuse - I really feel for Jack.

highame · 13/03/2021 09:20

If you want to wonder what the police were doing instead of protecting women, they were recording non-hate hate crimes and filling in Stonewall Champion evidence to keep up their status.

CardinalLolzy · 13/03/2021 09:18

What a terrifying account. (Please can we not let this thread turn into a thread of comments about Jack as an individual - I think it's hugely important this thread stays up.)

So many people think men won't make disproportionate effort to intimidate women - I know someone who was stalked and it's clearly not true - there are those who will do whatever it takes to continue/ ramp up the fear they know they are causing.

My thoughts are with Jack and anyone who has experienced similar.

SenecaTrewe · 13/03/2021 09:16

Just awful. Poor Jack. I've been given warnings on here for criticising the police, but I will risk it. They are a massively corrupt sexist and racist organisation.

ahagwearsapointybonnet · 13/03/2021 09:15

Wow, I thought I couldn't get much more angry than the last few days but I was wrong. Solidarity to Jack indeed and she has been very brave to share this; but what the fuck were the police doing and why is that piece of scum still walking the streets? I hope this will finally have consequences for him.

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 13/03/2021 09:13

That's horrendous Sad

If only the police had taken any of the earlier incidents seriously.

This isn't specific to Jack since the teacher should have been jailed for the first assault, but I think that penalising the 'minor' incidents of male agression and taking them seriously when they're reported is like taking out the foundations - so many man who harm women seem to escalate.

As a thought exercise, if verbal harassment, flashing, groping, indecent exposure were actually penalised with some kind of rehabilitation program could the amount of physical assaults be reduced? Similar to the programs in place for child soldiers.

The police are consistently shit at responding to abuse of women.

But society holds the police up as heroes who can do no wrong and blames and silences victims. People choose not to listen to us or believe us.

Which is why police so comfortably abuse their power - they know they will be protected and get away with it.

Missproportionate · 13/03/2021 09:11

Whooah. Awful and words fail.

Siablue · 13/03/2021 09:11

How awful for her. That must have been absolutely terrifying. The fact that he was her primary school teacher and went on for years with nothing being done about it is particularly awful. Sadly that aspect is not surprising.

PersonaNonGarter · 13/03/2021 09:07

And this is why women aren’t surprised that Sarah Everard’s killer was a policeman.

NotTerfNorCis · 13/03/2021 09:05

That man needs to be identified.

MadameKali · 13/03/2021 09:03

Reading that gives me a feeling deep inside that I can only describe as terror. I can't imagine what it must feel like to have been the subject of it.
