The Cognitive Dissonance of Owen Jones

I just...

URRRRGH!

"Solidarity with all women sharing their experiences of living under the constant threat of male harassment and male violence.

What they’re all underlining is how the conversation shouldn’t be about how women can keep themselves safe but how men can be stopped from being a danger"

COG would want to be careful he doesnt end up denouncing and silencing himself

SunsetBeetch · 12/03/2021 15:44

Colm O'Gorman too. I'm sure there's many more.

Teawamatu has just saved me typing out a long sentence

Yes to Owen Jones as Richard Littlejohn
Yes to WeeBisom's analysis!

@RoyalCorgi

I couldn't see the tweet from Homunculus because she has protected her account. I could see some of the responses to OJ's and, guess what, there are people on there going on about terrible TERFs and how trans women aren't a threat to women. So the usual fuckwits.
Many of the responses to OJ''s tweet were calling him out on his hypocrisy. Anyone trying to derail it with trans nonsense was shut down, which was great to see.

He's part of the problem, but either chooses to ignore it (cognitive dissonance) or hopes we haven't noticed (rank stupidity)

highame · 12/03/2021 09:22

Oh Joy! Another OJ thread to cheer me up on a rainy morning Grin

NotBadConsidering · 12/03/2021 09:18

I would genuinely love to sit him down in a room one day and have a proper discussion about it to see if he’s even remotely capable of critical thought on the matter. Obviously, the door would have to be locked due to his propensity for storming off when he doesn’t like the way things are going, but still, would be fascinating.

Joisanofthedales · 12/03/2021 09:04

Some great posts here about this detestable hypocrite.

merrymouse · 12/03/2021 08:59

that it just isn't engaging with his other deeper beliefs like 'women are threatened by male violence, and men are a danger.'

I don’t think he believes that women are threatened by male violence or that men are a danger to women.

He just thinks there is a ‘wrong side of history’, and doesn’t want to be on it.

Lammergeier · 12/03/2021 08:57

Can I just say how sick I am of people here comparing Owen Jones to a weasel? It's really offensive.

Weasels are cute. And brave.

teawamutu · 12/03/2021 08:00

@WeeBisom

I honestly don't think this is hypocrisy. I think the belief in self ID is so shallow that unless the concept of 'trans' is activated, then most people talk and behave as if sex is real and that male, yes male, violence is a fact. I had a friend who completely stopped communicating with me because I disagreed that TWAW. I apparently was a 'bigot'. And yet the very next day she was on twitter stating that 'the benefits of lesbian sex is that you can't get pregnant!' It just absolutely did not cross her mind that some women have penises. So as much as I don't like Owen Jones, I don't think he's being a hypocrite here. Rather, his belief in self ID and all that entails is so shallow (a pseudo belief) that it just isn't engaging with his other deeper beliefs like 'women are threatened by male violence, and men are a danger.'
This is a brilliant insight.

And 'the Richard Littlejohn of the left' was equally bang-on.

God I love MN. Keeps me sane.

InspiralCoalescenceRingdown

He does raise an important question to be fair: How do we stop Owen Jones from being a danger to women?

Perfect.

Whatwouldscullydo · 12/03/2021 07:17

Things like this give me the rage.

I just can't...

FrankButchersDickieBow · 12/03/2021 06:16

Can't decide if he's a weasel faced arse, or an arse faced weasel.

merrymouse · 12/03/2021 06:16

Wasn't he one of the people who spread the idea that JK Rowling was weaponising her experience of male violence?

They made the rules. Fucking own them. Follow them. Put your money where your mouths are you hypocritical bastards.

Yes, they really should.

MsSavouryPancake · 12/03/2021 02:34

He's such a wee bawbag !

NiceGerbil · 12/03/2021 01:17

It's this way all the time and it's really pissing me off.

A PP put well what I've not been able to articulate.

'. I think the belief in self ID is so shallow that unless the concept of 'trans' is activated, then most people talk and behave as if sex is real and that male, yes male, violence is a fact. '

They all do it. The BBC, guardian, girl guides, various major charities.

On some issues they say women or men and people are expected to understand they mean sex. EG male higher risk of covid. Not a penis owner, or testicle haver in sight.

Other subjects they say men women and people are supposed to understand they mean gender, how you identify.

And then there are other topics (well female reproduction mainly) where it's people with vaginas etc.

There is no way they would have a headline eg Uighar people with vaginas subject to detention and rape...

But they should. They made the rules. Fucking own them. Follow them. Put your money where your mouths are you hypocritical bastards.

aliasundercover · 11/03/2021 22:56

OJ doesn't engage with anyone who disagrees with them ... well, unless it's Piers Morgan. He just says they are nazis or TERFS. He doesn't have to argue with them or think about their arguments because he is right and good, and they are wrong and bad.

Whenever an interesting point is raised, for example: 'would you have sex with a transman Owen?', he simply shuts down the debate and shouts an insult.

He's not exactly a great thinker is he? He's the left's version of Richard Littlejohn.

endoflevelbaddy · 11/03/2021 22:38

@Ereshkigalangcleg

She is actually superb but had the audacity to have an interview with Julie Bindel. Julie was on to talk about her narrow escape from Peter Sutcliffe and what it was like to live through that period in Leeds, and her involvement in the 'take back the night' protests.

I'd really like to listen to this, can you say which podcast?

It's Laura Richards' Crime Analyst, episode 8 was the interview but the whole series is very insightful. Sorry, I didn't mean to be evasive but didn't want to derail. I think the work she does is just incredible.

sums it up perfectly
