But the replies to this are mostly fabulous

FFS....I really despair...

I'm just reading the replies. "Even transwomen who don't exist are more important than women" is one of my favourites.

That's perfect.

FFS at this reply to Sarah Woolley's tweet.

Why do white TRAs always try to use black and Asian women to prop up their arguments?

Do they not realise how offensive, how racist it is to do that?

And if they actually listened to the names of the killed women or looked at some of the published photos they would see that it's clearly not a list of only white women.

Feeling so angry about this, don't think I've really got my meaning across very well, but posting in case someone more articulate than me sees it and wants to express more clearly what's wrong with the tweet I've linked to.

JustTurtlesAllTheWayDown · 12/03/2021 12:41

@Shizuku

How do you know that none of the women on that list were trans?
Either there simply weren't any trans women murdered in which case it's unfair and disingenuous to attack Ingala Harris for not including them, or if some of the women on the list were trans then it's just as unfair and disingenuous to attack Ingala Harris for not including them. Its almost as if it's really about wanting an excuse to have a go at Ingala Harris and not really anything to do with excluding trans women at all.
TheRabbitOfCaerbannog · 12/03/2021 12:39

@Shizuku

So essentially, you have no idea whether any of the women on that list are trans.

Not every trans person is publicly out, or is part of the trans community. Many just live their lives under the radar, and they have a GRC so they are legally female at every level. And if they are murdered in a domestic violence situation (which more trans women go through even than cis women) rather than because of transphobia, then you are likely never going to know they happened to be trans.

Those women's stories are publicly available - you can read about them @countdeadwomen. There are photographs of many of them. Stop making stuff up. It's tedious and offensive. Educate yourself about VAWG.
Shizuku · 12/03/2021 12:37

@QuentinWinters

So essentially, you have no idea whether any of the women on that list are trans. Oh whatever. Statistically its unlikely any were trans, before even getting into how rare it is to pass well enough to be fully stealth. I'm quite confident to say none were trans.
How do you know that it's rare to pass well enough to be fully stealth? You literally have no way of knowing because, ahem, they pass well enough to be fully stealth.
PopperUppleton · 12/03/2021 12:35

Many trans people have a GRC? How many is many? Because only around 5000 GRCs haven been issued since 2004. That's not 'many' in a population of 65,000,000. So around 0.008%

Trans women suffer more DV? Yeah, no. Where’s the receipts for that ridiculous comment?
HeyDuggeesCakeBadge · 12/03/2021 12:25

Come off it Shizuku, very unlikely we wouldnt be aware of their trans status. We get told that it's more lethal to be a trans woman than any other demographic all the time, but there is no actual proof that is the case. I'm pretty sure it would be used as proof in every single interaction with TRAs if anyone of them were.

It’s about women. All about women. That is all. No ifs and whatabouts.

Uhohmummy · 12/03/2021 11:19

It really makes you despair when this is the first response of someone hearing that list of names. Where is the compassion? The condemnation of male violence against women? The solidarity?
The misplaced anger towards women (sensing a theme here) and attempt to refocus attention on a non existent group (by this I mean the list of trans women killed in the UK in the last 12 months) is mind boggling. Surely it’s a good thing that no trans women were killed in the last year.

ErrolTheDragon · 12/03/2021 10:32

@MeltsAway

Although I suspect the reasons for men murdering TW might be different: they are generally killed (so I gather is the case in Brazil) as a consequence of being of the male sex but not adhering to the awful toxic masculinity expected of them. Not for being 'women.'
They're awful crimes but the main intersections may be homophobia, SW, trans, more than 'woman'.

Tanith · 11/03/2021 21:42

Perhaps Jess should read out the names of murdered transwomen and men murdered by women.

It would make a very stark contrast.

WinstonsWeirdVole · 11/03/2021 20:47

This very sad recent case (literally only reported today, strangely) is of a TW murdered by a man with a history of violence:

www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.bbc.co.uk/news/amp/uk-england-hereford-worcester-56360357

I don’t know whether the victim was recorded as female or male, but it is a heinous example of the male violence that kills and hurts so many women (and transwomen of course, as this shows, though to suggest the scale of one is comparable to the other - or that erasing women’s spaces will somehow address the problem - is obviously completely disingenuous).

Olderstyle1 · 11/03/2021 20:41

From the Twitter replies...

Absolutely shocking that the ZERO transwomen murdered in the UK in the last 12 months didn't have their names read out.
What were they thinking FFS?

Indeed.

WarriorN · 11/03/2021 20:37

That is the thing though isn't it; we do get told how many TW are murdered (elsewhere as not very common here). But older women, not. (Observer campaign.)

MeltsAway · 11/03/2021 20:36

@WeeBisom there are several women murdered BY Transwomen - two murdered their mothers ...

picklemewalnuts · 11/03/2021 20:31

What about women murdered by women? That's pretty rare too, isn't it?

Witchesbelazy · 11/03/2021 20:21

It’s an attention thing. The attention is on bio women and their struggles and some can’t handle it so kick up a fuss

AnxiousAndUnraveling · 11/03/2021 20:13

If transwomen are women and are included in women’s crime statistics then no transwomen could ever be murdered because they are women not transwomen so therefore the amount of transwomen murdered is and will for ever be 0.

(I don’t believe transwomen are women btw)

toffeebutterpopcorn · 11/03/2021 20:11

And I’m sure their names would have been publicised on the trans day of remembrance.

WeAreJackieWeaver · 11/03/2021 19:54

Oh they would have told us.
ChattyLion · 11/03/2021 19:45

2-3 women a WEEK are killed in the UK. Thats a systematic level of killing.
Why can’t women be left in peace just to remember these murdered women given how terrifyingly commonplace this horrific crime is?
Why do men feel the need to interfere?
How about they show some compassion and fuck off?
