Thank you Graham and Helen

On the BBC now...

Not gleaner, Glinner.

Cailleach1 · 09/03/2021 16:54

One of the men questioning gleaner seemed to load one of his comments. When he said how it was interesting how the platforms all came to the conclusion that Graham was hateful (paraphrase). Wonder if he is one of those supposedly 'captured' chappies who in fact really just enjoy being able to shout out their internal misogyny. In the name of righteousness, of course!

SirSamuelVimes · 09/03/2021 16:52

Just watched Glinner's speech and bought him a coffee. Amazing man. Amazing speech.

WeAreJackieWeaver · 09/03/2021 16:50

Yep Hamster nailed it earlier on the thread. Accurate data is so important for trans people, their needs will not be met if Government doesn’t not understand how many trans people they are. Mimmymum, again, is being hard of thinking here.

Ninkanink · 09/03/2021 16:49

Oh yes 💐💐💐 and 🍸🍸🍸 and 🍰🍰🍰 for Helen too!

ArabellaScott · 09/03/2021 16:49

Ta for the link, StPauls.

Biscuitsanddoombar · 09/03/2021 16:49

Glinners statement is perfect!! Stonewall were asked repeatedly to help to take the heat and toxicity out of this discussion and they not only refused, they doubled down!

The new stonewall CEO who started last year stated publicly that she wanted to stop the toxicity - and yet a year on, they’ve done nothing at all to change how they conduct themselves. They’ve thrown endless petrol on the fire and still do not seem to understand or care the harm that they have done

Tibtom · 09/03/2021 16:48

@gardenbird48

So mimmy has archived the old incorrect guidance and is encouraging her followers (which seem to be mostly born male) to fill in the Sex question in the way they see fit.

If they are hiding their trans identity (which seems to be the preferred option) - there will be fewer resources allocated for trans people (and more for women, with an inexplicable reduction in percentage birth rate due to some of the women not having the body type to enable gestation).

I don’t understand why they think this is a good idea. Flowers for Hamster - this must be so frustrating to watch as a trans person who understands the challenges this will create.

So she is encouraging people to commit a criminal offence?
Xenia · 09/03/2021 16:48

We needed judgments like this and public scrutiny because without it things were sneaking in without consideration of the legal and other implications.

Guidance really does matter. Some of the covid 19 guidance has been at odds with the legislation. The people writing government guidance need to check what is being written with lawyers more often.

justanothernameonthewall · 09/03/2021 16:47

@FindTheTruth thanks!

AbsintheFriends · 09/03/2021 16:45

Thanks for that link to Glinner's coffee fund. What legends he and Helen are. I've not done a stroke of work today but still feel exhausted!

MichelleofzeResistance · 09/03/2021 16:44

There will inevitably be people who will do what they want regardless. The main point was not to confuse the rest of the population in the process. Or discreetly make sex an umbrella or social term in public documents without this being legally and openly decided by the HoC and HoL doing the job the tax payers pay them to do.

highame · 09/03/2021 16:44

Hoping Glinner comes and posts his full statement. Have an e-mail of it, but he deserves to post himself Flowers

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 09/03/2021 16:43

#GrahamLinehanIsABigot now trending on Twitter. Evidently someone is really rattled by this guy.

Needless to say there are no cogent arguments as to why they think he's a bigot.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 09/03/2021 16:43

It's bonkers. If you assume the arguments about lack of trans healthcare etc were in good faith, they would want to get the number and sex if trans people recorded so they can campaign using that data.

(I realise this falls down on the "good faith" part)

MRB2 · 09/03/2021 16:42

Thank you Helen, thank you Glinner.Thank you for fighting so hard for us all.

gardenbird48 · 09/03/2021 16:40

Xpectations · 09/03/2021 16:39

Got the feeling that the Committee weren’t listening to Graham so well, but hopefully able to take on board his points coupled with Helen’s.
The issue about whether they’re private companies vs public space is well-evidenced by Glinner and Helen that, as bannings (to the point of character defamation, I think) can you follow you around from one platform to the next, there should be an understanding that social media as a whole, is a public sphere.
I’m unsure as to whether they understood the arbitrary nature of Ts&Cs and their lack of consistent application.

testingmitb · 09/03/2021 16:39

Just heard his statement. Very clear and necessary.

Leafstamp · 09/03/2021 16:38

Glinner's statement:

JoodyBlue · 09/03/2021 16:38

I haven't caught up on the thread. But I just listened in full to Helen and Glinner in the HoL. If you read this -- absolute heros both of you. I could not hold you both in higher esteem. Points made with such articulacy and clarity. Not easy! And Glinner - that speech was amazing!! Amazing. You will always know that you stood for women. We thank you x 1000 Flowers Flowers

CriticalCondition · 09/03/2021 16:38

Just watched the latter part of the Committee hearing.
Thank you Helen and Graham. Your evidence was so calm and clear and coherent. I'm so sorry you've been through this awful stuff but so grateful you are standing up and speaking about it for all our sakes. You didn't have to.
