Found this, earlier today — the Conservatives for Women website:

conservativesforwomen.org

Their proposals could have been written here on Mumsnet. I'm now, for the first time in my life, having to consider whether instead of just spoiling my ballot I'm going to have to vote Conservative to keep Labour and the Lib Dems out.

Universal credit, the lack of social housing....
These are things which really effect the welfare of women. Women are trapped with abusers...
I'd rather skin myself alive than ever vote tory. They try and disguise thier baseline ideals with popular buzz words but this party protects the status quo and the status quo does not protect women it exploits them

gardenbird48 · 08/03/2021 10:14

Thank you for your work @ConservativesForWomen - my Conservative MP is supportive of women’s rights so there is no question about my vote.

If the other parties can’t even acknowledge my existence as a woman there is no earthly point in my voting for them. They are actually promising to remove women’s rights - how can I do that to my daughters? It would be like being one of the anti-suffragette women.

Erkrie · 08/03/2021 10:12

Its an absolute con. The conservatives dont care about women... well maybe about a handful of wealthy white women

Labour don't care about women. Women would have nothing, not even the words to describe themselves, if labour were in power. They are firmly of the mantra transwomen are women. Which means that anyone can be a woman, male or female. Which renders the word woman, and the legal protections it offers, meaningless.

Twobirdsinatree · 08/03/2021 10:11

This is a political party who tried to remove statutory maternity pay which would have left me absolutely penniless as someone on a zero hours contract when I fell unexpectedly pregnant...
This is a political party who got in bed with DUP happily
They have closed sure start centres... they have underfunded the NHS so that home birthing teams have been decimated as well as perinatal psychiatric care..
Its a joke. They are using womens fear about trans people in order to get womens votes... they do not give one single solitary shit about the real welfare of women..

ChaToilLeam · 08/03/2021 10:10

There is no way I could vote Conservative. Austerity has hit women and children very hard, the cronyism in the leadership is appalling. I am politically homeless right now.

This isn't the way forward.

Bluesername · 08/03/2021 10:06

I think the Conservatives are currently the best option although I have certainly voted for other parties before. I think most politicians want to make a positive difference to people but they just disagree on how this can best be done. I'm quite impressed by Liz Truss at the moment and wonder if she could be a future PM.

Erkrie · 08/03/2021 10:03

RobinMoiraWhite gosh if you're going to post such accusations, then you should really post your evidence.
Waits.....

Erkrie · 08/03/2021 09:52

I'm voting conservative. I feel no need to cling helplessly to the labour party as they sink, trying to drag women down behind them.

SenecaTrewe · 08/03/2021 09:46

@DemolitionBarbie

I would rather walk over the hot coals of hell than vote conservative.

Same. I'm in Liverpool, and nobody in my family has voted anything but Labour since elections began.

ConservativesForWomen · 08/03/2021 09:39

"Sorry to disappoint you, but this pressure group has no connection with the Conservative Party - apart from in their imagination."

Imagination is a powerful thing Robin.

However, I can assure you our party membership cards are entirely real as are the channels of communication we have with politicians. We are quite used to slurs and false accusations, even from within our own party; the official LGBT+ Conservative group called us 'disgusting t*rfs'.

It's all water off a duck's back mate. Go well.

Andthenanothercupoftea · 08/03/2021 07:01

If you think the Conservatives will ever do anything "for" women I've got a bridge to sell you.

Ultimately a lot of the issues we have around sex based rights are linked to resources (lack of).

No money for trans refuges/prisons etc? That's fine, shove 'em in with the women and if they complain, call 'em transphobes.

Cheapest way of "addressing" mental health - medicate - exactly what's happening with GIDS. Proper investment would provide proper support for mental health, counselling and long term help. Not chuck some pills at them to make them go away so you can deal with the rest of the waiting list.

And who has shaped the current narrative about femininity and what it means to be a woman that a) leads so many young women to reject it and b) makes so many men "want" it? The media (controlled by a shockingly small number of people with vested interests in supporting the Conservatives and government's like them around the world) and people trying to sell us stuff.

I believe in sex based rights. I also believe that Trans people have become a useful "other" for the right.

Thecatonthemat · 08/03/2021 01:10

I wonder how it would be if the 51% just did not vote. Perhaps it would be clearer to see why we are in the state we are in, why men have no idea about women, our lives , our feelings, our priorities.
Nothing about us without us.

RobinMoiraWhite · 08/03/2021 00:22

@peak2021

It is a pressure group within the Conservative Party. A party still led by a misogynist, and one whose actions have harmed women greatly at both a political and personal level.
Sorry to disappoint you, but this pressure group has no connection with the Conservative Party - apart from in their imagination.
sst1234 · 07/03/2021 23:40

We live in a world where a grown man can readily identify as a 6 year old girl. And speaking out against this is seen as prejudiced. What next?

Jumpintothefire · 07/03/2021 23:29

I'm gender critical . I'm so sad and disappointed in the Labour party but I'd rather poke my eyes out with a rusty spoon than vote Tory .

dotoallasyouwouldbedoneby · 07/03/2021 23:28

@DemolitionBarbie

I would rather walk over the hot coals of hell than vote conservative.
It's because of this kind of Labour=good/Tory= evil that so many mainstream parties have felt able to take the votes of 51% of the population for granted.
SinisterBumFacedCat · 07/03/2021 23:13

Never. Austerity measures over the past 11 years have so disproportionately hit women that it feels like an insult to put the words conservative and women together. Not to mention all there other policies.

Shedbuilder · 07/03/2021 23:02

@Wondermule

It’s regrettable, but women’s rights and place in the world aren’t a solitary policy that can be changed when a new government gets voted in. If we lose our rights it will be very, very, very hard to get them back. Voting conservative makes me 🤮 but I would be thinking of the long term.
This is how I feel. Sex-based rights seem to me absolutely fundamental to women's autonomy. If they go I don't know where we'll end up — but possibly somewhere very dark indeed. If voting Tory can stop that I'll do it.

BlueBrush · 07/03/2021 22:43

I'm also finding it very sobering (and quite sad) that it's a Conservative group that most closely describes my position on women's rights...

But I really came on to say, on lighter note, that I love the fact they are describing Baroness Noakes as a "badass"!

ThreeB · 07/03/2021 22:28

I'd like to vote SDP as they're the only part with an actual policy around the issue. However, they're unlikely to get the numbers required to gain any seats so I'll be pushed into voting Tory.! But any candidate who come to my door will be asked some very pointed questions on the issue

Wondermule · 07/03/2021 22:23

trindi · 07/03/2021 22:19

I'm in Scotland.

Never in my life did I think I'd be contemplating voting for the conservatives...

But maybe.

I actually emailed all the local ones about a completely separate issue. They've made all roads in my city 20mph which in theory is great, but that theory quickly goes to shit when everyone ignores it and it stops the ACTUAL 20mph roads (like school crossings) meaning anything. I wanted a crossing put in on the route my DDs take to school as cars consistently do 30mph + and the only one to email me back (agreeing profusely that if main roads are 20mph then school crossings need to be marked in some other way with a different limit) and do anything about it was a tory.

Nice chap.

Maybe he'll get my vote this year!

ChristinaXYZ · 07/03/2021 22:10

I am going to have vote Conservative because of them being the only party that has even a vague idea what a woman is. Whatever their faults if we lose the word/concept of woman then nothing else matters for women's rights - all else will be meaningless. Unless the Tory standing in your area is actually Crispin Brunt or one with his views then not swallowing your pride and voting for them will only harm women's rights long term - my reluctant conclusion.

I wish they had acted more decisively over the 'mother' debate (but Penny Mordant's involvement seems to explain that) though they have made some moves in other ways to support women and children over this issue and crucially there is not much in the way of local party, or national party, witch hunts coming for women who believe in sex not gender which is more than can be said of other parties (re Rosie Duffield and Joanna Cherry).

Wondermule · 07/03/2021 22:10

The only solution I can see is this: for as many women to join the Conservatives as possible.

Labour will sit on the fence snd ultimately decide to woo the #bekind voters.

The Greens and the Lib Dems are a lost cause.
