As a long time lurker I want to post a positive message of thanks to the amazing women (and men) of FWR who have opened my eyes to so many important issues. The fight for women’s rights can be exhausting and there are so many brick walls but just by talking about these issues you are making a difference. I suspect there are many like me who don’t often post on here but take on board a lot of what is discussed and use it to spread the message in our own lives, educating our children, donating where we can, etc. Please keep going. And thanks.

Thanks @Sophoclesthefox and @ErrolTheDragon, I didn't realise that particular word (which I took to be a kind of short hand for having seen the light when confronted with the facts) was now banned. I understand that moderation is a tricky task and it's difficult to produce a definitive list of what is and isn't allowed, but if there are certain words which will always result in deletion, it would be useful to have a list of those!

Buzzinwithbez · 04/03/2021 21:39

As for the trolls over the last few days, all I can day is that they've scored a massive own goal. From what I can see most of them seem to just throw out goady and unintelligible garbage that proves what the brave FWR posters are pointing out. They've probably converted quite a few fence sitters, but not in the way they hoped!

I agree - when my husband noticed Mumsnet trending on twitter last night it made him curious. He had a read and came to tell me, quite shocked about some of the vitriol directed towards women.

Kettledodger · 04/03/2021 21:22

Flowers and thanks to you all

Sophoclesthefox · 04/03/2021 21:21

@Foxxinsoxx

Apparently something I said wasn't allowed!?! Oh well I will carry on reading this board quietly, and speaking to people in real life.
Your post seemed fine to me, I quoted it to agree! Don’t be too put off Flowers
GrouchyKiwi · 04/03/2021 19:56

I want to add my thanks too. I mostly lurk, dipping my toe in the water with occasional posts, but I have learned so much from the knowledgeable, erudite, articulate, fucking brilliant women on here and I am so thankful.

ErrolTheDragon · 04/03/2021 19:19

It's not technically banned - but over the last few months it seems to have become some sort of red flag that always gets reported and always gets deleted. I'm actually trying to persuade MNHQ to put it on the guidelines as it's tripping people up who don't realise it's 'uncivil', which is pretty unwelcoming to new posters like Foxx.

TheMarzipanDildo · 04/03/2021 19:18

Yes, thank you everyone. This is a fabulous corner of the internet.

WarOnWomen · 04/03/2021 19:14

@ErrolTheDragon

* We all get caught out by the special rules in the Feminism section of MN. I was deleted for saying "p* trans" (the 'P' stands for what we call the top of a mountain). Apparently the term isn't conducive to civil debate. *

It seems to being regularly deleted, but it's not mentioned in the talk guidelines so it's a bit unfair on posters, especially newer ones, who are likely to be oblivious - it's really not very obvious why this is a contentious phrase.

Goodness I had no idea that P*Trans was banned. When was this banned?

MadameKali · 04/03/2021 18:25

I too lurk in the shadows. How you amazing women continue to engage sometimes is completely beyond me. It must be exhausting (it's exhausting just reading it sometimes) The level of willpower to not just shout "OH JUST FUCK OFF!! must be overwhelming.
I would love to post on some of the relentless threads to take some of the burden however I don't feel confident enough in my level of intelligence on these matters.
I think a lot of sunlight has been shone of late. 6 months ago I felt hopeless, now I see light at the end of the tunnel.

Flowers to you all. Thank you

Igmum · 04/03/2021 18:22

Yes yes yes. I too mainly lurk but FWR women you are the best Thanks and have some Gin too Grin

Today I really wish Mumsnet had applause memes and like buttons for comments... they might have, and I'm not that au fait with MN.
But today, especially, anyone who has spoken up for women and girls rights, who has patiently explained why cis isn't for everyone and who has kept either patience or sense of humour or both... well, you're my sheroes today. You deserve a bottle of champagne. Keep.going.

normanrockwellsaunt · 04/03/2021 18:01

Yes. Another lurker here to say thank you. Flowers

I have learnt SO much. And am in awe of the clarity, insight and evidence on this board. And wit as well.

Another occasional poster, regular lurker, reporting for duty

Foxxinsoxx · 04/03/2021 17:25

@MeltsAway It's telling that violent, angry men are permitted to rampage across the internet, threatening women with all kinds of graphic, hideous punishments for daring to speak about our rights, whilst we tiptoe cautiously across miles and miles of eggshells, apologetically moderating our language and forever having to check over our shoulders.

All I wanted to say was thank you to the women on this board who have taught me so much about feminism, and emboldened me to speak to family and friends and to my children about women's rights, to write to my MP twice, to respond to government consultations, and to contribute to some pertinent crowd-funded legal cases.

MeltsAway · 04/03/2021 17:22

Yes, @ErrolTheDragon I did say this - politely - in answer to the MNHQ email telling me they'd deleted my post (but hadn't given me a 'strike'). It's their call, it's their board (I moderate elsewhere & I know it's a beast of a job sometimes) but still ...

At the time, I didn't realise that this has been a common experience for this particular term.

littlebillie · 04/03/2021 17:20

I'm a lurker Smile and this are had educated me on how to speaks about all aspects of feminism in a coherent way. I'm currently in discussion with the ONS and my MP who has raised my concerns and extracted a response which I have responded to today.

I think also MN signposting to Twitter has also made me realise that women speaking out promotes such a wave of hate, that we must continue with a thoughtful evidence based dialogue.

ErrolTheDragon · 04/03/2021 17:16

Anyone new who hasn't read the talk guidelines, even though they're evidently not complete it's worth having a read to avoid unnecessary issues. There's a link on the main page to the extra stuff

oricella · 04/03/2021 17:05

Delurking to add my thanks and Flowers Flowers (and I garden when I can)

This board has given me courage to start speaking out in my organisation, challenging equality statements that fail to include the 2 protected characteristics relating to women (sex and maternity) and asking for definition of sex in new gender policies. I don't know if anything will change - but at least I have not been shot down by HR and they have indicated I am not the only one who has raised issues.

I have come to realise that not staying silent is maybe the most imporant thing to do

@Foxxinsoxx I hope you keep posting.

See it as a badge of honour!

Over600Ecalypts · 04/03/2021 16:54

Thanks to FWR, I do gardening and letters. I'm not as articulate as most but I add my bit. I'm also an avid reader of the links that posters provide. It all sinks in. DH is begining to get it too now because I talk to him about what I read here.

Thank you to everyone here Flowers and Gin

Wrongsideofhistorymyarse · 04/03/2021 16:25

Brava to all the amazing women on here - whether lurking or posting. Flowers
