As a long time lurker I want to post a positive message of thanks to the amazing women (and men) of FWR who have opened my eyes to so many important issues. The fight for women’s rights can be exhausting and there are so many brick walls but just by talking about these issues you are making a difference. I suspect there are many like me who don’t often post on here but take on board a lot of what is discussed and use it to spread the message in our own lives, educating our children, donating where we can, etc. Please keep going. And thanks.

I use FWR on MN as a wonderful resource and recommend it to everyone who has an interest in this important topic

SpringCrocus · 05/03/2021 15:08

Another lurker, occasional poster, (although serial nc er) and keen letter writer/gardener.
Want to say Thank You and Brava to FWR Flowers

ErrolTheDragon · 05/03/2021 15:06

I reckon they've done enough analysis on site traffic, repeat visits, and posting history to know that FWR membership is significant for Mumsnet.

Does anyone remember the thread MNHQ started which iirc simply asked what posters found valuable about the site. Zero leading questions.... what happened was, I think, unexpected to everyone- it was pretty much a massive FWR delurk. 'Came for the parenting, stayed for the feminism' was a pretty common theme.

lifeturnsonadime · 05/03/2021 14:30

Well this is a lovely thread Flowers.

I have largely been a lurker and am very careful what I say now having had 2 strikes on the representation thread recently.

I first came here, under a different username, about 2 years ago and was firmly of the belief that TWAW was completely harmless. I didn't believe it was actually true but I felt (I have since realised through socialisation) that I needed to be kind. It was Datun's gentle handling of my posts which led me to conclude that being kind was in conflict with the rights of women and girls.

This is such an important space and I am grateful to Mumsnet for hosting in in such a hostile time for women's rights.

It’s about men winning.

I misread that as "men whining".

Still accurate Grin

@Nobu

I am very grateful to have a space where there is a reasonable understanding of biology. I am waiting for the contagion to fade in good company
Waiting for the contagion to fade...I like that!

I have always considered myself to be a feminist but have learned so much since I started reading FWR a couple of years ago. The fact that there is no FWR hive-mind and that posters come from such a wide range of backgrounds, experiences, even countries, and have so much expertise and knowledge is hugely valuable. Understanding the extent to which women's rights are under attack at the moment can sometimes become almost overwhelming, but the support, humour and generosity of the good women of FWR has always helped me to cope. As has the fact that there is always something practical which I can do whether it's writing to my MP, talking to friends about the issues or extensive gardening. So thank you, everyone who adds to the discussion whether regularly or just occasionally 🎉

If it was effectively six posters then MNHQ would have shut this section down a long time ago.

I reckon they've done enough analysis on site traffic, repeat visits, and posting history to know that FWR membership is significant for Mumsnet.

If there was a way I could pay for premium anonymously then I would. As it is, even though I'm grateful for this platform, I don't trust them enough with my personal details like that. All it needs is another Emma intern and it would all be downloaded and used.

andyoldlabour · 05/03/2021 11:09

Chapeau to all you brilliant women on this forum and all the others out there, who are fighting the good fight!

GreenIcing · 05/03/2021 10:59

Serial name changer and mostly lurker on FWR, but I bloody love this place.

Every single day without fail I learn something from you all, and I feel a lot less lonely in my GC views.

There is definitely power in numbers and in unity. Solidarity, sisters!

Another saying I love:
We are the granddaughters of the witches your ancestors couldn’t burn.

The rage and fury on twaw that bubbles and spills over in Twitter mutuals who are otherwise lovely, calm and reasoned people shocks me every time.

Shania Twain came on the radio the other day - Man I Feel Like a Woman, and the line ‘man shirts short skirts’ made me think - is part of the current issue that men think we’ve had “too much” of their ‘stuff’ already? And now they want a piece of what they consider our pie?
That women are allowed to wear what we want (more so than men), that we want equal pay, to be seen as equal. Is this mantra calling part of the push-back? Is it men saying: you’ve had enough now, we’re coming for some of what you’ve got?

I don’t apply this to true trans people btw, but to the ball-swinging, loud and threatening men who scream TWAW in women’s faces (no-one ever cares about trans men, do they?)
It’s about men winning.

Sophoclesthefox · 05/03/2021 10:20

Look at all these witches that just don’t burn Grin

More power to you all!

JoodyBlue · 05/03/2021 10:10

Our critics like to say FWR is six angry women and their socks* Grin . That DID make me laugh. But if that were the case, not sure why the critics would be quite so very riled and het up about said 6 users. Perhaps we might add a few zeros to that figure in reality.

Eketahuna · 05/03/2021 10:07

Solidarity from a daily lurker in New Zealand!

picklemewalnuts · 05/03/2021 09:57

Wry smile, alkanet at your reference to plain speaking, so soon after thinkingaboutlangcleg said this:

"I’ve also had a comment deleted for mentioning the moment when I realised transgenderism was not harmless. The moment when I reached the top of a mountain and saw the dangerous landscape ahead. I now know it was deleted because I used a forbidden (though everyday) word. "

But yes, I agree! Grin

Erkrie · 05/03/2021 09:27

What a fabulous thread. Lovely to see some of the lurkers here.

alkanet · 05/03/2021 09:22

Hi all, I came here to lurk & learn after the Woman's Hour article. The politicization of mumsnet one. As I'm not a Mum I thought I had no business being on this site and didn't even know there was a feminist board. Really glad I came. I love the long threads that dig down into a subject and the pointers to crowdfunders. Love the plain speaking, wit and humour, the intelligence without jargon, and all the fiesty women who refuse to be quiet. Thank you💐💐💐💐💐

DialSquare · 05/03/2021 09:08

So nice to see so many lurkers on this thread. I lurked for years before posting. I'm not particularly articulate or educated so I try to use my humour when posting instead. As PP have said, all voices are welcome and it helps to dispel the myth that this place is an echo chamber.

gardenbird48 · 05/03/2021 08:44

what a lovely thread. Mumsnet has allowed us to know that we are not alone in this and I value the opportunity to discuss things - roll on the day when we can have a large gathering irl!

You may or may not have come across some of our more publicly known members - Keira Bell is on here and contributes occasionally. I noticed that now it is spring Keira's garden needs quite a bit more digging in preparation for a lovely display of sunny sunflowers in June.

TheABC · 05/03/2021 08:42

Another lurker. We are here and we are not going away. I also find the activity around the justice crowdfunders heartening - lots of small donations that soon add up. I just wish they were not needed!

thinkingaboutLangCleg · 05/03/2021 08:28

I’ve also had a comment deleted for mentioning the moment when I realised transgenderism was not harmless. The moment when I reached the top of a mountain and saw the dangerous landscape ahead. I now know it was deleted because I used a forbidden (though everyday) word. So I’m writing this to ask Mumsnet to list all forbidden words or phrases in the FWR moderation principles.

This is a reasonable request, because my deleted post was not abusive. Most comments on Mumsnet are reasonable. It’s wrong to delete them because they unwittingly included a forbidden word. And be fair, Mumsnet, we couldn’t have guessed that mountaintop word was forbidden!

BlueBrush · 05/03/2021 07:56

Yes, I want to add my name to this. Occasional poster, constant lurker. Thank you all, but particularly to the regular posters. I often donate where I can, and write to my MP or whoever, after reading threads on here.

I see all the women posting on this thread and I think of the "well-funded campaigns" that Baroness Barker talked of. I think there really is a large and growing number of us more prepared to stand up for women's rights.
