If a 15 year old is pregnant then that is not a mental health issue. No amount of counselling or therapy is going to make a foetus disappear, that 15 year old needs a safe abortion if that's what they want, it is a physical issue. If that abortion is not legally available then yes, they may turn to an illegal abortion because there is literally no other option available if they do not want to be pregnant.

If a 15 year old is so unhappy with their sexed body that they feel that their only options are suicide or buying very dangerous drugs from a dark web seller, then I would say that is a mental health issue. And that someone needs to step in and give that child therapy to help the.

I don't think I have articulated that very well, but to me, this is just not comparable to abortion.

BarbaraofKent · 27/02/2021 12:36

Jolyon Maugham is comparing this to abortion again on Twitter today.

So what he is essentially saying is that the state must sanction children being given unlicensed drugs to halt their perfectly normally developing puberty, meaning that their brain will not develop properly, they will miss out on certain hormones vital for their physical development, a lack of which could cause massive long term damage, and will almost definitely mean going on to cross sex hormones which could again cause major long term damage and even possibly death (look at the female doping athletes of the 80s?)

Because otherwise no fucking grown up is going to step in and help these children in another way and so their only option will be to buy these drugs on the dark web?

And that is the same as a 15 year old being able to access a safe abortion?

Sure Jo.....

@Melroses

... or, "The LORD will work out his plans for my life--for your faithful love, O LORD, endures forever. Don't abandon me, for you made me."

That last bit sounds like an abuser talking, frankly.

Sexnotgender · 27/02/2021 12:25

@nauticant

At some point Maugham is going to have to find someone(s) to blame for his behaviour over this issue. That is a going to be glorious day. I wonder who'll be in the frame for making him act as he's acting?
Women. We’re to blame for everything.
Melroses · 27/02/2021 12:24

The Lord will perfect that which concerneth me: thy mercy, O Lord, endureth for ever: forsake not the works of thine own hands

Ha ha - Bible bashing Joles only agrees with the last paragraph there - not about the professionalism of GenderGP he is trying to defend Grin

He has so much to give.

Has anyone looked up Psalm 138:8 and is he saying what I think he's saying that the Ghouls at GenderGP are doing Gods work?

Also, changing documents like this is all very secret, due to the existance of the GRA and guidance. Hmm

Melroses · 27/02/2021 12:11

Apparently they will supply a letter to change the gender marker on your passport too for a small sum.

I don't know why passports are considered any sort of id these days, or why the census think it is a valid legal sex.

@Clymene

I'm not sure why Jolly thinks that GenderGP'S dodgy PBs are any better than someone else's dodgy PBs. Buying drugs off a suspended doctor really shouldn't give anyone comfort.
If you don't agree with the use of gender gp you should read the bible says Jolyon Hmm

So, Maughum is equating GenderGP with backstreet abortionists?

Sexnotgender · 27/02/2021 11:55

Andrew Doyle is Titania McGrath. I am a shallow person and few things give me more pleasure on Twitter than seeing somebody woke re-tweeting Titania McGrath without realising it's satire.

I’m obviously shallow too as it’s highly entertaining.

Good for the Telegraph investigating this. That and Janice Turner's excellent Times column on the defunding of women's refuges really put The Guardian to shame. Where's its cutting edge investigation and comment on women's issues and safeguarding of children?

notyourhandmaid · 27/02/2021 11:30

That GenderGP rebuttal is terrifying.

gardenbird48 · 27/02/2021 11:00

The activists are now targeting the Telegraph advertisers because of this article.

Mr J Maugham has an interesting take:

If they succeed in banning Gendergp how will they address those buying Puberty Blockers on the dark web with no medical intervention at all?

What medical intervention does he think that Gendergp provide?? They’ve said that they don’t provide any.

Good on the Telegraph. Remember, it was the Telegraph that exposed the MPs' expenses scandal and we all know how that went. The bit is now between the Telegraph's teeth, so to speak. It has been building up to this for a little while now.

I have to say, the Telegraph has for a long time had a much more pro female, pro equality stance than the Guardian, whether it's their women in business campaigns or their coverage of women's sport.
Forget the old stereotype. I ditched the Guardian a long time ago.

@nauticant

Children as young as twelve prescribed puberty blockers?! How do they manage to circumvent the recent ruling??

As far as I'm aware, the prohibitive effect of the High Court ruling is not yet in force, it's pending until the Court of Appeal gives a ruling. GIDS haven't stopped giving out puberty blockers because of the High Court ruling, it's because unless then get confirmation that it's legal to proceed, they know they'll be putting themselves at very high risk if they continue to enable kids to get puberty blockers.

Puberty blockers was actually 10. 12 was cross sex hormones.

Really great to see The Telegraph investigating this.
Totally. That wouldn’t have happened a year ago.

It’s been mentioned to Andrew on twitter the fact the Webberley’s had their medical licences suspended by the GMC hence the move overseas. He didn’t know!

Money. Honestly I think that’s all it is. Money and adulation and woke cookies

Nah. Just money. They are like drug dealers. You'll have seen they have this wonderful scheme where treatment can be funded? So a young person can get their initial appointments and first medication laid for as that is a big up front cost, and then it's just monthly payments for the rest of their life...

Was just coming to say this. He did an ok job.

Nice to see it covered on sky.
