Woman who has been chained to her partner

Hopefully the link works. link

I was going to title this “couple who have chained themselves to each other” but after reading the report that’s clearly not what has happened. Her boyfriend chained her to him to stop her leaving him.

This woman has been hospitalised due to the ulcers this chain has created on her arm.

Lots of grinning faces on Facebook. This is a woman who has literally been chained to her a abusive partner to prevent her leaving- it’s causing her physical injury- they’re publicising his abuse of her. And people are laughing.

What the actual fuck needs to happen for people to recognise abuse when they see it?

I hope her friends and family get her out of this relationship. Can you imagine going to the toilet like that ? It’s degrading

heatherhoneys · 26/02/2021 16:01

@JackieWeaverIsTheAuthority yes, you were saying how you invited friends round before you left. That's not an option for all abused women, it's common to isolate them from friends and family.

JackieWeaverIsTheAuthority · 26/02/2021 15:59

@heatherhoneys

Not all women in an abusive relationship are allowed to have friends let alone to have friends come round to the house. It's good that you were but that is not the case for everybody.
Is this to me?

Unless they lied to the experimenter. Oh, but he had to assure their mental health prior to chaining them up, so he must be an expert! Mustn't he?

Wanderlusto · 26/02/2021 15:51

Youd think if it was an official experiment they would have picked a 'happy' couple. Not one where one partner keeps leaving. Unless they lied to the experimenter. Or the experimenter is actually running a different kind of experiment as to what they think. Like how long itll take for her to decide to saw her own arm off to escape him.

MedusasBadHairDay · 26/02/2021 15:49

This is utterly grim

CuriousaboutSamphire · 26/02/2021 15:48

@JackieWeaverIsTheAuthority

Well an official experiment is a great way to legitimise abuse- so I don’t doubt that it is also an experiment.
Isn't it just!

Ludicrous!

WarOnWomen · 26/02/2021 15:45

@Dozycuntlaters

It's not abuse, its a publicity stunt. She does not look bothered, she looks quite chilled and the article says it is a decision they made together. I think you're being dramatic when you say he chained her to stop her leaving him, they both decided together to do it so that they couldn't run off every time they disagree. This is so not abuse.

I really have no words. HmmConfusedSadShockShockAngryAngryAngry

Of course it is only her arm that has a fucking ulcer. She isn't the one jerking him around to wherever it is she wants to go!

But it is an experiment, from other articles on it, they are going 'for a record'

Vitaly Zorin, of Ukraine's national register of records, who supervised the experiment said: "The palms of the couple in love are just a couple of centimetres apart."
Zorin also had to verify the pair's mental health before starting their close encounter challenge, before they were chained together near the Unity sculpture in Kyiv, Ukraine.

MrsTerryPratchett · 26/02/2021 15:40

However there is still a long way to go ( as there is everywhere, including the UK)

Completely. I think I would trust a medical professional in the UK to not allow me to leave with him if asked. Would that happen in many other countries? I don't know.

As part of my job I've had to insist on seeing women alone for conversations. I think I'd 'visit the loo' and call the police for advice in this case.

notacooldad · 26/02/2021 15:36

Russia is dreadful and I suppose Ukraine isn't far behind
There have been big positve changes in Ukraine law towards domestic violence (gender based violence) last year. They are making a great effort to tackle the issue. However there is still a long way to go ( as there is everywhere, including the UK) Unfortunately the women in the east around Donbass ( where the war is still ongoing) are not protected enough.

JackieWeaverIsTheAuthority · 26/02/2021 15:34

So they can only be separated by someone with special equipment to cut the chain. So she's stuck with him 24/7 and if she decides she doesnt want to do it anymore, he would let her ring for help would he? or would he stop her given that he's literally attached to her

Well given that the purpose of the chain is to stop her leaving whenever she wants I highly doubt he will let her have it removed before he wants to.

Its awful whatever way you look at it. The fact that in 2021 a man feels that he can put this on social media and nobody do anything about it. It is abusive behavikur and no normal parent would want their daughter to be living like this

Viviennemary · 26/02/2021 15:30

My guess is that it's a sick spoof.

JackieWeaverIsTheAuthority · 26/02/2021 15:29

@Mummyoflittledragon

This is awful. I was also going to say that she looks like a dummy, a live doll in the photo in the car. She looks anything but relaxed. He’s holding a baton behind her head whilst she’s reading her phone, isn’t he?
I thought it was a hair brush or curling tong/straightener. It’s hard to see properly.

"The couple's first test was a 325 mile drive home from the capital city in a taxi. They had to choose whether to jointly use the male or female toilets at a roadside cafe. They selected the women's toilet, providing a shock to a cleaner, as they began their lives with no personal space"

NotMeekNotObedient · 26/02/2021 15:25

Awful. Any partner who let's their partner sustain injuries like this is clearly abusive. Welded together is just horrific.

Erkrie · 26/02/2021 15:23

Sounds like a publicity stunt to me

Those ulcers are quite some stunt that's for sure.

🙄

MrsTerryPratchett · 26/02/2021 15:07

@PotholeParadies

It's in the Ukraine.
The authorities are pretty pro-DV in the former USSR so I wouldn't even trust someone to help if I was getting my wounds treated and said, "please don't let me leave with him". Russia is dreadful and I suppose Ukraine isn't far behind.
