How many women (or men) identify as cisgender?

On another forum, I said "Most women don't identify as cisgender, and many feel that describing them as such is disrespectful". Someone has asked me for evidence of this. I think it's probably true, but I haven't seen any statistics or even estimates of numbers. I'm interested in any evidence or arguments which would either support or refute my statement.

I don't think it's conducive to civil discussion when as we see here, so many women resent it being imposed on them. That's why MN originally proscribed it.

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 18/02/2021 11:39

And it's supposed to be banned on here and yet I keep seeing it

I think it depends on the context

So people can call themselves cis, can refer to cis people but cant call you cis

I think...

I might have made that up

RuthTopp · 18/02/2021 11:35

This is how I identify myself :
Female
Woman
Mother
Wife
Daughter
If spoken about - her /she.

@Ereshkigalangcleg

You need to report the posts. If you don't report it will stay up.
I have done in the past and they've been left up.

@WhoWants2Know

I certainly do not identify as cisgender because gender is bullshit. I am a biological female.
This.
Outbutnotoutout · 18/02/2021 11:18

I'm not cis woman

I am a woman

I am not a subcategory of woman!!!

jackieweaverismyhero · 18/02/2021 11:17

ps. can we do something about this 'assigned' at birth claptrap. I hear it more and more. Surely its 'observed'?

jackieweaverismyhero · 18/02/2021 11:16

I'm a woman.

I'm not a cis anything. IDGAF if someone says they're trans, just don't expect me to change something about myself in order to accommodate your internal nonsense.

Ninkanink · 18/02/2021 11:16

I don’t ‘identify’ as female. I simply am female, as dictated by my biology and observed and recorded at birth.

I am a woman - adult human female.

RainingBatsAndFrogs · 18/02/2021 11:12

I don't identify as any gender.

I identify as female.

And have spent my life resisting and challenging gender expectations.

And defending the rights of people to present whatever 'gender expectations' they like without being bullied or discriminated against. Want to wear a shirt and tie, shorten Georgia to George and watch the footie with your hands down your trousers - absolutely fine by me.

Want to Change from John to Jan , swap your plain black lace-ups for Jimmy Choos and grow your hair into an 'updo' length - great.

But don't expect to be able to compete against me or my daughter on an athletics track or in a velodrome.

TheDogsMother · 18/02/2021 11:11

I don't 'identify' as anything. I. AM. A. WOMAN.

@DaisyHeadMaisy

I find the use of CIS deeply offensive. I am a woman.
This

And it's supposed to be banned on here and yet I keep seeing it. Hmm

SheGonBringThatAttitudeHome2 · 18/02/2021 11:07

What absolute contrived rubbish Genderbread and Atonewall definitions are.

What a fucking, smashing typo!

(If it was deliberate I salute you.)

Justhadathought · 18/02/2021 11:04

I don't think anyone does; even those that use the hash-tag. It is a social currency that people use to signal their membership of a tribe.

Nobody really 'identifies as' something that they just are. It is a recently manufactured term.

PlanDeRaccordement · 18/02/2021 10:58

Not me either. I’m gender abolitionist but if pressed to use the gender ideology terms, I would choose agender as in I don’t identify with any gender at all.

BigWoollyJumpers · 18/02/2021 10:55

I am constantly having to ask my teen DD's what each "label" actually means, they despair of me, sometimes I feel so "old", there's a label for you. A catch all phrase for being out of touch with the new nomenclature.

CharlieParley · 18/02/2021 10:52

@Enidblyton1

I wonder who came up with the word CIS? It’s so ugly! I shall pretend I never stumbled across this thread and forget about such a ridiculous word. Let’s hope it goes out of fashion quickly.
Here's what a comment I wrote about that on another thread:

"The term cis was originally used only in a strictly medical context in which a simple and easy way was sought to differentiate those who identify as trans from those who do not.

Volkmar Sigusch, a German psychiatrist and sexologost coined the term "Zissexuell" (i.e. cissexual) in 1991 because he reasoned that if there are transsexuals, there must of necessity also be cissexuals.

Interestingly, Sigusch's work on transsexualism includes such gems as categorically stating that no male person can ever understand what it means to be female (and vice versa).

In his understanding of the ideas behind transsexual and cissexual (he only coined the word cisgender in 1995), it's all very much about the absence or presence of dysphoria. And about the presumption that it is healthy to accept the sex stereotypes and sex role stereotypes associated with one's sex."

I should add that in modern usage, the word cis is no longer a mere reference to someone who embraces the straitjacket of stereotypes associated with one or the other sex. It is also and especially posited by many trans rights activists as denoting the oppressor class in a proposed oppressive system whose axis is gender identity. That's why "cis" isn't just offensive to me, it's gynephobic.

That's because there can be no axis of oppression based on how society reacts to a given individual's preference for the sex stereotypes and sex role stereotypes associated with the sexes. Just as with outright oppression on the basis of sex, the correct axis of oppression for this issue is also sex. And the oppressor class in that system is the male sex class.

Buzzinwithbez · 18/02/2021 10:51

And yes, I find it offensive.

Buzzinwithbez · 18/02/2021 10:50

I'm a plain old woman too. No need for a prefix..

Bicnod · 18/02/2021 10:49

@OnlyTheLangoftheTitBerg

Gender is a load of socially-constructed bollocks used to keep people, and predominantly (although not exclusively) women in narrow regressive boxes. I don’t define myself in terms of gender, I don’t worship at the altar of gender ideology and I don’t call myself “cis” (or non-binary, or agender or whatever other wokespeak terms some people try to ascribe to others to make it seem as if we all have a place on the bullshit gender spectrum).

I am a woman, because I was born female and grew to adulthood. Beyond that I have preferences, dislikes and a personality. In some of the first two in particular I can see the evidence of female socialisation within a patriarchal society. But that’s not an “identity”.

feelingverylazytoday · 18/02/2021 10:39

I am a woman, not a cis woman. Furthermore, the whole concept of identifying as something you're not and expecting other people to go along with it is a complete crock of shite as far as I'm concerned.

N4ish · 18/02/2021 10:25

I have no gender identity. I'm a woman whether I like it or not, can't identify in or out of biology.

FossilisedFanny · 18/02/2021 10:21

You’re either a female or you’re not, if you’re not female then you are a male . There are only two sexes , no grey areas no subsets no identifying as , it’s male or female .
