my guess is thay he will take a 2-3 day break from twitter then come back with the we all said things we may regret in a heated moment, lets move on line.

and won't mention the lawyers again.

BarbaraofKent · 18/02/2021 16:34

I bet he is right smarting from David Baddiel not swooping in to defend him, I'm still chuckling about that!

derxa · 18/02/2021 16:33

I wonder if Omid has woken up today and had a wee rethink. What does his wife think of all this?

A lot of GC twitterers are hilarious. That's the only thing I miss about twitter.

SheGonBringThatAttitudeHome2 · 18/02/2021 16:14

misogyny Advent calendar!

..is indeed priceless.

CranberriesChoccyAgain · 18/02/2021 13:52

This was tweeted, in reference to Omid's escapade.

I can't wait to discover which mid-level celebrity's going to have an embarrassingly ignorant mantrum today. It's so exciting at the moment, like a misogyny Advent calendar!"

😁

@HermitsLife

Smurfs😄 I love it. Not heard of Mary Bourke before but she's really funny.
Me neither. She's actually hilarious.

Yes, totally agree BuntingEllacott. When it comes to egotistical men going over the Twitter cliff it's a case of the more the merrier - literally.

BuntingEllacott · 18/02/2021 11:50

Yes, obviously attempting to intimidate a woman is not the funny bit. I reserve the right to laugh at the egotist making a public prat of himself, though.

ScribblingPixie · 18/02/2021 11:45

@BuntingEllacott

Oh, Omid. You've made me laugh many times in the past. Great to see it continuing. Probably not in the way I expected, but life is full of surprises these days.
If it weren't for Dr Em likely being upset by this, it would be very funny. Good to see very few responses from men other than along the lines of 'dude, you've got this one wrong'.
Sophoclesthefox · 18/02/2021 11:35

@RoyalCorgi

Trying to imagine Omid's conversation with his solicitor:

Omid: I want to sue a woman for libel because she had the nerve to accuse me of calling women Nazis.

Solicitor: I see. And what did you say that made her claim that?

Omid: I said women were Nazis. And then I addressed her as Adolf.

Solicitor: Trying to put this gently, Omid, but I think you're going to struggle with this one...

Grin

@nauticant

Remember the state of establishment comedy before 1980? And how much of it was swept away in a wave of being able to say forbidden things? The alternative comedy movement is now the establishment and much of its energy seems go into policing what is permitted. It's an interesting mirror image.

Hopefully we'll be getting a positive counter-reaction at some point in the near future.

There is comedy unleashed

And of course the Triggernometry lads are both comedians.

Beefcurtains79 · 18/02/2021 11:04

What an absolute cock.

PotholeParadies · 18/02/2021 10:49

If he wants everyone outside twitter to know he was throwing the words Nazi, Adolf and Eva Braun around, he should certainly try to sue.

It'll get covered in the Daily Mail and the Guardian then, and people will share the article about a comedian being anti-semitic to show how compassionate they are themselves!

BarbaraofKent · 18/02/2021 10:45

He just didn't read it properly & didn't take on board the reference to Todd.

Yes, he clearly didn't actually care about this issue, or want to look further into the sorts of views in question. He just wanted a quick and easy 'look how compassionate I am' moment and is now absolutely raging because he has made himself look like a bellend.

As I said before, David Baddiel responded to one person within the thread who mentioned buying his latest book, and that was it. If this was a Regency novel, we'd say that he'd given Omid the cut direct!

Yes, have seen that - DB replied to someone in the thread, so has clearly seen the tweet, but hasn't come to defend OD. Ouch!

Manderleyagain · 18/02/2021 10:35

The one on Omid's link has 3 paras (not one line) on Selina Todd - they wouldn't automatically have gone on there, would they? Yes it will have automatically changed. If you share a news link and make a sarky comment about the headline, and then they change the headline, your sarky comment no longer works and you look daft. So it's possible omid read the original version, then tweeted it 2 hours later after it was changed, but seems unlikely. He just didn't read it properly & didn't take on board the reference to Todd. An awful lot of male commentaters on twitter seem to be very surprised (or just ignoring the fact) that a good chunk of the academics who are pressured not to share their opinions are feminists who think sex is v significant.

BarbaraofKent · 18/02/2021 10:28

He is pissy now because he clearly didn't read the article thoroughly and his virtue signalling attempt has backfired and now people are calling him a misogynist, which is like, really inconvenient for a man who is trying to look progressive (ask Owen Jones!)

How is he being 'abused'?

Haven't the woke bros been telling us 'It's called holding someone to account actually' for the last few weeks?

PotholeParadies · 18/02/2021 10:24

Well, it's the next day now, and David Baddiel still has not deigned to involve himself in Djalili's twitter spat, even though Omid directly tagged him in.

As I said before, David Baddiel responded to one person within the thread who mentioned buying his latest book, and that was it. If this was a Regency novel, we'd say that he'd given Omid the cut direct!

Seems that David Baddiel, who has 729k followers, a successful writing career for both adults and children and his own up-coming tour, feels he doesn't need to court Djalili's favour. Fancy that.

Someone should send Omid a copy of David's latest book Jews Don't Count, which discusses casual anti-semitism.

nauticant · 18/02/2021 09:24

Cross-post with ZuttZeVootEeeVro.

Omid Djalili's original tweet that links to the BBC article, twitter.com/omid9/status/1361620826089549826, was at 10:17 AM · Feb 16, 2021 so it's reasonable to assume he was referring to a version that had been amended to include a paragraph about Selina Todd.
