@Ireallywantsomechips

This is a sincere question which is probably hugely offensive to some but I genuinely don’t understand.

If you do not identify as a woman but are using the biologically female parts of you to reproduce is that not somewhat hypocritical?

Of course it is. It’s cherry picking the bits you want. It makes my blood boil.
ArdynLucisCaelum · 10/02/2021 15:18

I read this when it was highlighted by my local media, apparently it means midwives will tailor their language if someone requests it.

But the issue I have with this - if as a transman you are so incredibly triggered by 'breastfeeding' and 'mother' why do the ultimate female thing of getting pregnant and birthing a child! It annoys me because language is indeed being tailored and changed to suit a minority at ridiculous lengths.

"Women aren't the only ones who give birth. Women aren't the only ones who have abortions."

Yes. Yes, we are. Yet a tiny minority kick and scream about this because it doesn't suit how THEY identify.

Imloosingmyshit · 10/02/2021 15:18

Uuuugh!! I’m so sick of this snowflake crap. Ladies boobs are there to feed any children they have. That’s what they are for. Breasts feed babies. Breasts. We produce milk. Women. Girls. Ladies. Females. Pretend females can breast feed no matter how hard they try. It’s called breast feeding for a reason. Not because we had a drunken meeting and that’s what we came up with. Get a grip world!!!

SweetMeadow · 10/02/2021 15:04

I used to half read some of the posts on here about women being undermined and forgotten about through these kind of initiatives and wokeness (mostly because I didn’t have the time or energy to read up about it) but this latest development has made me snap. I will now make much more of an effort to keep up to date with what is happening because I really feel like women are the ones being thrown under the bus.

These are the new words in the renamed perinatal services. I don’t even know what perinatal means and why should I.

To be fair, other things do use perinatal, it’s pregnancy and (I think) the first year after birth. Perinatal mental health services for example, that would deal with mental health problems during pregnancy and things like PND after pregnancy.

merrymouse · 10/02/2021 14:45

I will caveat that by saying that somebody with a GRC should in most, but not all instances be treated as their acquired legal gender. However, that is not the same as sex.

merrymouse · 10/02/2021 14:43

Trans men can mestruate.

Because their sex is female.

'Trans man' refers to a concept of gender, which other people are free to reject, in the same way that they are free to reject the concept of God.

It's not possible to reject the reality of sex, regardless of whether that means periods or severe discomfort to the extent that you take cross sex hormones.

Typically, men haven't thought much about the impact of sex, because the world revolves around men.

DadJoke · 10/02/2021 14:31

@AMK42

Morred, “menstruators” isn’t acceptable, at all. ONLY women menstruate, although not all do, so the word is “Women”. Men CAN’T menstruate. If they’re bleeding from their nether regions they need to see a doctor - they’re ill.

Igneococcus · 10/02/2021 14:22

The German word for breastfeeding is "stillen", it doesn't really refer to any sex.

@IsabellaMozzarella

I have a question, which I hope I can pose clearly. I'm currently chestfeeding my DC so up all hours. What are they doing in countries where their language uses feminine & masculine, like in France? Or is the UK being ridiculous in isolation?
The agenda is being pushed all over Europe but I don’t the specifics of language. You’d think that the French term allaitement/allaiter would be neutral however it seems clear as with chest feeding that new “inclusive” terms are being created for the sake of differentiation whether or not they make sense.

Littl- neither did I. I had to Google it. It's an umbrella word covering the ante- natal and post- natal period.
prisencolinensinainciusol2 · 10/02/2021 13:39

We know this isn’t about ‘gender inclusion’ as there are already gender neutral words for breastfeeding that could be used e.g. ‘nursing’...

That is a bloody excellent point.

Who is in charge of our language these days? Creeps.

QuiltingABook · 10/02/2021 13:29

chestfeeding Is that where the baby feeds on the birthing parent's liver or lungs or aorta? Sounds yum. Hmm

dottiedodah · 10/02/2021 13:26

This is beyond anything right now isnt it? Saying "Chest milk" FFS! Really stop telling midwives/women what to do .Most pregnant women and lactating women are called "Mothers to be " and Lactating Mums in my book!

merrymouse · 10/02/2021 13:24

Some of the information in the policy is wrong/misleading.

"Some staff may voice objections towards treating trans or non-binary service users on the grounds of their religion or beliefs – this would be classed as discrimination. Managers must be prepared to deal with this in the same manner as for any other similar objection (for example on the grounds of sexual orientation), in line with the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Policy."

This paragraph talks about discrimination, but when you actually check the Equality/Diversity and Inclusion policy:

"5.12 Providing for Cultural and Religious Needs
Where a member of staff has particular cultural and religious needs which may conflict with existing work requirements, the Trust will consider whether it is reasonably practical to vary or adapt these requirements to enable such cultural/religious needs to be met."

tinylittleyou · 10/02/2021 13:22

I’ve mentioned it on the other thread but do they still use the term ‘MSM’ at std clinics? Biological sex is also a factor in std transmission including HIV and they’ve always used that term, but it sort of becomes useless if everything is gender rather than sex

highame · 10/02/2021 13:19

We wanted sunlight, well here it is. If you're woke and thought this could all be done quietly and maybe we wouldn't notice, needs to have a bit of a re-think.

My advice, don't upset mothers or a tsunami will be on its way. Anyone who thought they were in for a quiet day in our many government departments should be having a bit of a wake up call.

Doesn't matter what the intentions were or any amount of ah but ah but. It's out now and this particular genie wont be put back in the bottle. Smile I needed cheering up, well done Brighton NHS

I was also about to post this article. I'm outraged. When will people wake up. This is out of control wokery. Someone needs to stop this madness.
To the fraction of humans mad enough to make a fuss about their feelings being hurt when scientific language is used..... Please.... Please.... Sort yourself out.

merrymouse · 10/02/2021 13:12

Deal with each individual and respect them and their wishes.

I don't think it is just about dealing with individuals though. The impression I got was that they will be talking about breastfeeding/chestfeeding in all communication - otherwise why announce a policy at all?

Toseland · 10/02/2021 13:11

I’m so upset by this I’m almost in tears. I breastfed my child for 2.5 years as did my Mother and my Grandmothers before her.
We know this isn’t about ‘gender inclusion’ as there are already gender neutral words for breastfeeding that could be used e.g. ‘nursing’. Whomever is behind all this just want to take women’s words away and this chills me to the core. What does this mean for women in the future?
Every time I see the word ‘inclusion’ I take it to mean exclusion for women and girls.
This is pure evil and I will now fight this with everything I have. Utter bastards.
