Smoke and mirrors. Drop maternity and then all the poor quality maternity care can be disassociated from pregnancy because whoopeedoo we have Perinatal services now and they're much better???

MoleSmokes · 11/02/2021 07:46

@flyingbuttress43

Why did I know, even before reading the article that it would be Brighton?

The same article is in the Telegraph, which also reports that Freddy McConnell is listed as an external adviser on the document. Well, colour me surprised.

Brighton & Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust

"Gender Inclusive Language in Perinatal Services:
Mission Statement and Rationale"

Yep - the External Reviewers include

Freddy McConnell - Advocate, trans birthing dad

www.bsuh.nhs.uk/maternity/wp-content/uploads/sites/7/2021/01/Gender-Inclusive-Language-in-Perinatal-Services-BSUH.pdf

They have also changed "Maternity Services" to "Perinatal Services" so as not to focus on mothers aka "birthing parents".

Worth considering whether this language shift will result in changes in the culture of services, intended or otherwise, ie. babies as "products" or "outputs".

It is bad enough that the NHS is again adopting terms that many will find unfamiliar. It also triggers my spidey-sense that the term "Maternity" has been dropped at the same time that surrogacy is being pushed as a civil/human rights issue for men who want women to provide them with surrogate-birth babies.

Breastfeeding is now chestfeeding, Brighton’s trans-friendly midwives are told
ukgift2016 · 11/02/2021 06:15

Why are we as women allowing this to happen? We are allowing ourselves to be slowly eradicated. I also read they want change the word maternity service to perinatal service.

I am in the south east, I had my first midwife appointment a fe weeks ago, she said breastfeeding but in my next appointment...if my midwife says chest feeding, I will not accept it and will be making a complaint.

Manderleyagain · 10/02/2021 22:48

Regarding breastfeeding support charities - their main funding comes from local authorities, NHS trusts, public health etc who commission them. They do what commissioners ask of them. So that's where we have to concentrate efforts. Women don't have any choice but to use the charity that does bf support in their area (on the whole), and donations don't make up much of their income.

AMK42 · 10/02/2021 22:31

@ElliFAantspoo You are not hearing voices calling out about this because too many women are silent. They complain to each other, sign petitions at most, which is a complete waste of time, but don’t do anything to make their voices heard. Write to Hospital Boards who support this erasure of women and copy the letter to your MP, the Health Minister, local Press. Don’t just stop donating to charities - write and tell them why. Don’t just stop buying from companies like Lush who support trans charities like Mermaids, write to the CEO saying why. Write to your MP, write to local councillors warning about Stonewall putting their trans ideology propaganda into a primary schools. Write your local Council quoting EA2010 regarding provision of single-sex toilets. Write to the likes of M&S and other stores allowing men into women’s changing rooms, again quoting EA2010. Write to your local press. Make YOUR voice heard where it counts.

God, it’s bulllshit of the highest order

MaudTheInvincible · 10/02/2021 22:28

ElliFAntspoo

You can say 'fuck' here. There's no need to use 'F' as a stand in. If you want to swear, do it.

ElliFAntspoo · 10/02/2021 22:20

As regards to news coverage - this was 'a thing' six months ago at least when one of the breastfeeding charities started accepting men into breastfeeding groups and calling in chestfeeding. No-one gave a F about it then, so is it any surprise no-one really gives a F about it now.

Regarding said charity - it would be closed by the end of the next month and everyone sacked if women decided to boycot them, and refused ever to engage with them again, and that would send a message to anyone who wished to side with the LGBTQ community over chest feeding. The message being, if you pander to this, you lose all income that comes from women in this country.

But then, really, who cares? A few enraged mouthpieces? The rest of us couldn't really give a F could we? Type a few words? Bandy about the outrage? But actually give a F enough to do anything? No, not me. Not anyone else either.

So if the LGBTQ community care enough to get off their backsides, and the rest of us wouldn't even dream of doing that, then its a forgone conclusion.

I for one am going to buy some popcorn and watch the snowflakes and wokers destroy society, cos it is interesting to see watch all the fake vitriol and faux affrontedness.

ElliFAntspoo · 10/02/2021 22:09

I'm too old to give a F, but it's like watching a train wreck in slow motion, or the slow crumbing of a society's backbone.

newyearnewname123 · 10/02/2021 21:13

One good thing about this is that it really has got full news coverage - someone even put a comment something like 'here's one to make you laugh ladies, it's called chestfeeding instead of breastfeeding' - this was in a facebook group for old photos of nottingham! not exactly a place for radical feminism normally.

KindAndFurious · 10/02/2021 20:34

To me this seems not to be about supporting transmen as one could easily use the term 'nursing' or nursing parent. Rather, seeing that transwomen who are biological males won't ever be able to breastfeed with their breasts. They probably don't like the fact that their breasts can't do the one key thing a woman's breast are designed for: feed their mammal offspring. So that lowly thing that women do to keep their infants alive can be dismissively called chest feeding and breast are just sex things.

MaudTheInvincible · 10/02/2021 20:14

I don't believe this will have the support of many of the midwives. As with so many things connected with this ideology, this will be being imposed on the staff from the top down. It's patriarchal imperialism.

ElliFAntspoo · 10/02/2021 20:04

Until we stop supporting this sort of thing we will continue to lose. A huge proportion of the support for the LGBTQ agendas comes from women.

ElliFAntspoo · 10/02/2021 19:59

@HermioneWeasley

Let’s hope this continues to raise awareness of the anti woman agenda
But a large portion of the supporters are women?
OhHolyJesus · 10/02/2021 19:45

Freddy McConnell's Insta says this is about keeping babies and "expectant parents" safe.

Safe from the literal violence of using the wrong pronoun I assume, though I'm not sure what that does or doesn't do to a baby. Getting the baby into the world safely without anyone dying or sustaining life-changing injuries should be the first priority I would hope.

There was also the suggestion that this policy should be adopted by other NHS Trusts so whilst I think Brighton is a little bit special it probably won't be limited to one area of the gender ideologists have their way.

(I still haven't forgiven Freddy for labelling women who have lost babies who want to be called mothers as bullies and I bear grudges easily at the best of times.)

It seems staff members called Helen and Ash instigated this change, according to Freddy, so I wonder how many midwives in Brighton will a) follow through with this and b) be reconsidering their jobs if this would be a sacking offence if you slipped up with a pronoun when the baby is crowning.

HermioneWeasley · 10/02/2021 19:34

Let’s hope this continues to raise awareness of the anti woman agenda

OhHolyJesus · 10/02/2021 19:30

I've never seen that many comments on a Times article.

4,200 comments!

Wow, bet the mods are knackered.

DaisiesandButtercups · 10/02/2021 18:50

ElliFantspoo, the gender ideology lobby are too powerful. Too many are scared of them. Charities will lose funding if they are not “inclusive”. People are losing employment for speaking out against them.

OvaHere · 10/02/2021 18:45

I've never seen that many comments on a Times article.

ElliFAntspoo · 10/02/2021 18:43

@DaisiesandButtercups

Breastfeeding charities have already been pressured into having policies to include men.
So I wonder why there are no voices out there calling for society to stop supporting charities that pick up and run with the narrative? You only need for charity to be closed down and its employees left claiming benefits to send the message to other organisations that we will stand for it.

Example - Which formula company will be the first to link their product to chestfeeding, and will there be a mass exodus from their products or will mothers keep buying anyway cos it doesn't affect them?

WinterIsGone · 10/02/2021 18:42

A couple of years ago, these types of articles in The Times were getting very few comments - I guess readers didn't think any of it applied to their own life, so weren't very interested. Just "be kind".

Since then, I've noticed more and more people have had their eyes opened, and more and more have been adding their voices at the end of each article. You are right, this has really hit a nerve.

highame · 10/02/2021 18:39

Incredible isn't it Igneococcus. Lots of people will be payng much more attention now. If that's how many posted comments, wonder how many others just read. I guess thousands more

ElliFAntspoo · 10/02/2021 18:39

@Singlenotsingle

Discrimination against women. Denying our very existence. Men rule ok! Angry
Then why do so many women support the TGNVSFGBQ community?
MsFogi · 10/02/2021 18:39

It seems to me we are moving in the direction the trans lobby wants - erase women when it comes to biological functions (make them gender neutral so that the trans people who have a kinky interest in pretending to menstrate etc can get their kicks and feel included) but reserve the sexy stuff like "boobs" for straight men who like breasts and trans people who want to own and feel their own pair of silicone breasts (usually the more Benny Hillesque the better).

Igneococcus · 10/02/2021 18:09

There are more than 4000 comments under the Times article now. I don't think I remember another article with that many comments, it really hit a nerve.
