Evan Rachel Wood - and companies rushing to drop Manson

Anyone else finding it interesting how Manson's record label, and 2 TV shows have dropped him so fast after Evan Rachel Wood and others named him as an abuser?

Usually companies wait a while to see if it all blows over, but they've barely hesitated. On the one hand, that's great they are taking the women seriously and believing them. But to me it also suggests that they know enough about him to have absolutely no doubts - which begs the question of why were they working with him in the first place? Given a lot of his awful behaviour was well known, why did it take them this long?

@MondayYogurt Ughh yes. Him too. Grim. If he's who I'm thinking of, I thought his photos of young women were so obviously designed for men who like teens and underaged girls.

He's done a Savile - using superficial, performative weirdness as a cover for actual deviancy.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if everyone just said 'I just don't have time for your peek-a-boo bullshit'

I saw one of his recent music videos. It might have been with Johnny Depp in it. If it's the one I'm thinking of it was absolutely vile. In the end there were flashes of a woman in a bathtub, decapitated from what I can remember.

He seems to have been telling everyone who is for quite some time and has said some seriously disturbing things in his interviews. People gave him the benefit of the doubt because they didn't want to believe it, it was more palatable to think of it all as brand boosting theatrics or attention-seeking eccentricity. One of the women he was interested in broke their dalliance off because he told her he had fantasies of burning her alive. A wise move which saved her from years of mental trauma. I think she worked in porn and probably seen hair fair share of unpleasant or strange men.

When a man tells you who he is, believe him.

I think this has been a Weinstein type situation. Everyone knew, for decades it seems, that Manson has a revolving door of very young girlfriends he likes to control and abuse. The record company is aware it's true and it's likely there's more to come out.

Former assistants have now said that they were fully aware, that he's been abusing pretty much every woman around him and that his management also knew.

The sooner MM is flushed down the toilet of time the better.

I don't believe his account of Jennifer Syme's death at all.

Wow, I did not know that Manson was involved in her death.

Given what he has already said, the only (very weak) justification record companies had was that she hadn't described his treatment as abuse.

Now that she has there is really no doubt.

Wotapolava · 02/02/2021 14:56

Sexual abuse takes the spotlight.
Meanwhile, other forms of abuse are 'normalised' or ignored all together.

It's the same old same.

iamtheoneandonlyyy · 02/02/2021 14:36

I'm not disputing that Johnny has done wrong as well but not much point dragging him into it

iamtheoneandonlyyy · 02/02/2021 14:35

Yes he is mates with Johnny Depp a victim of domestic abuse himself.

@Lammergeier

If you've ever read the Marilyn Manson autobiography 'The Long Hard Road Out of Hell', which was published in the late 90s, you wouldn't find these allegations in the least bit surprising. Also, MM's guitarist Twiggy Ramirez was also accused of abuse by his ex girlfriend. Birds of a feather.
I didn't read it, but most of my friends did, so I got to hear excerpts. Grim stuff. It's been so out in the open for so long.

He's also mates with Johnny Depp.

@Glenchase

It’s not just one accuser. It’s multiple women saying the same thing. So they’re probably fairly certain it’s true.
From what I've heard, pretty much anyone who has spent any time around him knows it's true even without the multiple allegations, just because of how he treats people.

So I don't understand how it's taken until now for them to stop working with him? It's like they were just waiting for permission to drop him.

She spoke years ago about the abuse without naming him, so I think the people representing him would have known.

Didiusfalco · 02/02/2021 13:57

I think his star was fading anyway so it was an easy win for those companies to drop him.

Redshoeblueshie · 02/02/2021 13:53

I think they knew and just didn't care. Just like the BBC and ITV have done with their stars
