@zanahoria I thought that Guardian article was surprisingly balanced- I didn't keep wincing as I expected to. What did you make of it?

Manderleyagain · 05/02/2021 16:18

Made sense in this thread! That phrase would work in most threads.

MichelleofzeResistance · 05/02/2021 16:09

sorry, wrong thread!

It appears that the SNP Students National Secretary has now deleted his tweet

Oh, no, he put his profile on private and deleted his bio that identified him as SNP Students National Secretary

My responsibility?

I didn't tag you, it was a general 'you'. Smile

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 05/02/2021 14:42

Tell you what, I have high expectations of burn level from Cherry - she is more than capable of Baroness-Nicholson-polite-but-brutal-put-down.

I am going to enjoy that a lot.

ArabellaScott · 05/02/2021 14:41

The issues are connected to current ongoing case of accusations made against Alex Salmond. Maybe try 'advanced search' if you want to find older discussions of it.

Justhadathought · 05/02/2021 14:34

What has been "widely discussed"? Cherry's support of Salmond? Not mentioned by anyone apart from me. You (general you) are happy to overlook it as long as she's "gender critical

I don't live in Scotland and so am not really very familiar with the precise details and basis of her " support" for Salmond. Can you expand?

He may be a creep, I don't know, but that doesn't mean he cannot also be treated in himself in unfair or under-hand ways.

I'd like to understand the basis of her support, before I could comment further.

Cailleach1 · 05/02/2021 14:31

Yep, definitely a woman's own fault when someone threatens her.

MissBarbary · 05/02/2021 14:30

@MichelleofzeResistance

Completely agree with Mandy Rhodes there. Except I would go further and say when you look away from and tolerate this kind of disrespect to anyone, you are just as much part of the problem that ends in police protection for credible threats of serious sexual violence towards a female.

Whether or not you agree with the female is irrelevant to your responsibility in this.

My responsibility? I'm not a supporter of the SNP- Try lecturing those who are. I've already said the threats are unacceptable- but beyond that it's for the separatist supporters to clean up their act.
MissBarbary · 05/02/2021 14:27

@ArabellaScott

That has been discussed extensively on here, MissBarbary. I don't have the energy to do so again right now, except to say that the case is ongoing.

TBH 'liking' or even supporting Joanne Cherry's politics is really irrelevant here.

If you say so. I must remember that blind allegiance to the "gender critical" cause is the only acceptable view on here; even when the person in question is an apologist for a sexist creep.

@MichelleofzeResistance

That person moved themselves beyond the Pale and so even if they start doing helpful things I will reject them

Obviously it's your right to reject whatever you want Confused

Surely the point is that whether or not you like and agree with someone, Cherry has been treated in an unfair and unacceptable way, and largely with the aim of removing a defender of female rights out of the hair of a group of politicians bent on setting gynephobic law.

Cherry chose to join a party which is well known for its dictatorial suppression of dissenting views. She's reaping the fact she didn't do her homework. That's her problem, not mine.

I am not persuaded by Cherry being championed as a supporter of women's rights given her support of Salmond so I'll take her "defender of women's rights" shtick with a very large pinch of salt.

Even if it were genuine, her campaign to destroy my country outweighs any good she might do in her "defending of rights"

Cherry is a hypocrite.

@nauticant

Other people hold a different view to you MissBarbary. It's allowed.
Indeed - as I am too. I'm afraid Cherry is not the great hero for me. And as I say there is a deafening silence on her support for sex-pest Salmond. No-one on here seems in the least bit bothered about that.

Are you referring to my posts? What "helpful things" has Cherry done? For me - none.

She's as wildly separatist as the rest of the SNP- if anything she's worse than some with her calling almost for UDI. I fear that far more than "gender critical" issues.

Obviously the threats made against her are to be condemned without qualification but beyond that I reject Cherry.

And I see that no one on here seems the least bit bothered that Cherry is Salmond's biggest fan. He wasn't found guilty but even his own QC said his conduct was reprehensible- I think "sex pest" was the term used. Cherry is a hypocrite.

Triphazards · 05/02/2021 13:36

'Tis pity she's a nationalist.

I'm afraid my heart does not bleed for her here. Did she not know what she was letting herself in for hitching her wagon to the party of no dissent allowed?
