I feel like I came into this story halfway and haven’t been able to find out what she did? Can anyone explain, google isn’t being overly helpful
All the signs point to the First Minister of Scotland being on her last few months as leader of the party. She has proven to be a mediocre leader, and like such leaders are wont to do, she has not supported and trained a talented colleague to take over from her.
Joanna Cherry is the obvious choice for successor, based on her track record, her standing with the membership and her reputation with the wider public (even people who loathe the idea of independence and therefore the SNP seem to respect her skill as a politician, however grudgingly).
One gets the feeling that the FM would rather poke her eyes out with a hot needle than allow that to happen. That she doesn't like Joanna has been quite obvious for years, but just how much she must hate her has only recently become apparent. It seems that the FM has either outright allowed or turned a blind eye to her own party's members and elected representatives to bully, harass and threaten Joanna Cherry and Joan McAlpine, the only two elected politicians and women's rights campaigners in her party who spoke out in defence of our existing legal rights. Because by doing so they oppose her own preferred ideology.
Unfortunately for the FM, they haven't been able to find anything to support the accusations of transphobia and anti-semitism (and they tried hard), so now officially Joanna has just sort of randomly lost her shadow cabinet post in a totally necessary random reshuffle. Not a team player, I think was the insinuation. And the FM will not say a word to rectify the misleading claims by activists that this is both proof of and punishment for transphobia. Or say anything at all to condemn, let alone stop the threats made against Joanna.
